  1. AT this very moment I have an Optical Cable hooked to the output of my Macbook Pro , To the input of the Very First Sharp/Kenwood MD recorder Made 1994 , Atrac 1 , we are talkin vintage here , it still works , it still sounds great. The MD can record From almost anything you can think of , The 700 has both Auto and Manual , even on Digital in , Take the Time to read the manual completely then read it again ( They even have an Icon in the smiley called "R.T.F.M." )not hard to figure out what that means eh! AOL Radio , Jason Miles , song , "Palladium" ...... (isnt that a toxic metal? ) onto an MD in CD quality next up Count Basic , Roland Vasquez , ........ The MD should be your constant companion
  2. Agreed You have to play with it for a bit and get used to what it will and will not do , the Mic you have is Not the greatest to be using , there is an old saying "Speed Costs ,....How fast do you want to go ?" The Md will only record what you put into it , crappy mic , crappy sound. MD Not Crappy ECM 957 , for a beginner mic , Upgrade to a ECM 959a if you can find one or get the AT -822 from Audio Technica , and then you will truly see what the MD is Capable of . A lot of beginners try a cheap mic expecting miracles , and then ditch the MD because it didnt record good enough. I have tried so many recorders that I am basically a walking library of Specs for almost every thing out there , .....end result MD Rules, get a good mic.
  3. Ok , another trip to Hardoff today , I bought a Kenwood DMC-A7R (Sharps very first MD Recorder) Optical in/out , W/All accessories in ABSOLUTELY Pristine condition , Not a Mark on it Listening to Dream Theater on it right now ..........Vintage is Cool ! 3,000 yen Also , a Sony SRF-DR1 FM Data Reciever . I sat watching news Scroll in amazement on the sceen for an Hour , kliking menus just like reading the newspaper , select what news feed you want Traffic , Weather , etc Song /Artist , Song playlist for the station ......All on a Battery Operated handheld that has remarkably good sound with a decent pair of phones, really locks the station in . also 3,000 yen (I told my wife it was for the house and we NEEDED it in case of power outage , ) Actually got something done on the house today too. All in All ......A good Day
  4. Hmmmm go into Applications , and open MD Transfer , then upper left Top of the screen klik the MD Transfer name and go into Preferences . See if it is set to start when Mac starts , if it isnt starting automatically that might be where it is. anyway , once you have the RH1 connected , go into Applications and open MD Transfer it should then take over .
  5. Fellow Mac guy here , Macbook Pro Core2Duo MD Transfer is supposed to take over the Mount , in otherwords when MD Transfer has the MD connected you wont see a Mounted disc on the desktop , you sould see the files ith the Transfer window ( when you connect the RH1 to the Mac , first there will be a mounted disc on the desktop , DO NOT KLIK IT ) If MD transfer's Monitor is working right , in a couple of seconds the MD Icon should appear on the destop (Blue MD Transfer icon) you klik that not the disc image The RH1 doesnt " Mount " per se .... when doing the audio thing , You can drag data files to the disc image and use it for data , but to access the audio it has to go thru MD transfer One other thing .. I wonder if Windows is putting some kind of header file on the MD when you have it connected to Windows, that would conceivably be a problem . Format a disc on the RH1 and record something on it from a CD , then connect to the Mac first , see if does the same thing. If it sees the RH1 like it should then your Windows is doing something to the MD Also you said you formatted thru SS , dont do that , format on the RH1 itself , while NOT connected to the computer
  6. Aimee Mann , was in my Math class in 9th grade , I think that is cooler , cuz she's a Musician ....... I would much rather have a Moderately attractive woman who is a lot of fun to be around and has a Mind that is rich and dynamic . You go on endlessly about Margolis , You should see my guitar students.......!!!!
  7. There were a couple of guys on the board somewhere who fixed MD's but I havent heard from them in a while now , several months.
  8. I dont disagree that they are cool , I am saying that 33 dollars for something that is under 15 elsewhere is wrong . I run into this alll the time and it realy gets my goat . example Parrallels Desktop for Mac is 79 dollars online direct from Parrallels w/ full support . In a Box at a Japanese Software store it is 178 dollars I have several of those boxes myself , and the ARE cool , but 33 bucks is way to high , They were 1,500 yen on sale for 980 y each
  9. I have three of those bought from a store owned by Walmart ( Seiyu here in Japan ) and they were only 980 yen , 32 dollars is a ripoff. Go look at walmart or someplace like that first .
  10. If you look at the back view with the Battery cover off , then measure it and , you will se it is 3 aaa's in length(aproximately)
  11. It is the Length of 3 AAA battes end to end , And the Docking station gives Full audio implementation XLR preamps ,RCA inputs , USB , Power and a few other things , It has built in Limiter ( Not to be confused with AGC) it is a " Brick Wall" Limiter that does not destroy the dynamics of the recording.Thats where the price tag comes from . It records in mpeg2l format Find any recorder with those features , and look at the tag , Marantz has a Flash based recorder I wouldnt mind having , even though it is only 16 bit But it is 600 dollars
  12. Yes it would Thats why the Mixer and several mics would be a VERY good Idea ,( Look down at my ID info and see what I do)
  13. You could build one for less , and get better results , The 97 is a desktop mic for meetings the 25 is for Video cameras What you want is for instruments , so what you NEED is different . A lot of people are of the mentality the " A mic is A mic" no they are not Mics have different outputs , different charcter traits , different frequency responses , ......and therefore different uses. You want a mic suited to the purpose , (Or mics as the case may be ) Seperation yes , by a few meters no . Unless you have a couple of 2,000 Earthworks Time aligned referance mics , and a Very nice mixer. First go to several Microphone makers websites , Read ,,, then read some more Specifications , Uses , etc . then start looking at a budget . #1 Do you want to go straight to the MD , or would you like a little more control of the sound(ie. Mixer and Mics setup ,...recommended) #2 What are the absolute end results you wish to obtain ,( Just capturing ideas , or do you want to get something Actually usable for A recording or CD) #3 will you be collaberating with anyone ( back to Mixer and A couple if not more mics) Etc , etc , etc Ask yourself some questions first , figure out what you REALLY want to do , so that you dont waste money by getting a case of gearitis because the last thing you bought just didnt do the trick. then go to http://www.fullcompass.com and have a good time , I have done a LOT of business with that company
  14. I have some posts with samples of the AT822 up here somewhere , look for " Baroque quintet" there was NO P.A. at all just the mic and the MD , and 25 feet or so between me and the Group in a Long narrow room, I was at the Back of the room
  15. Make a decent offer plus shipping , and they will be yours, I will do the negotiations TC I am pretty sure that if he was offered at least 300 each +shipping he would go for it , These units are in very good condition. Low mileage
  16. Not trying to break the Wallet ( I got a few freinds who complain of that , I get something , we end up buying the same thing , and then they look at the wallet .....OOPs) just search the net for "RM-MC40ELK" and youll find quite a few places to order from , take your time buy new not used. Its worth the extra dough. The scroll wheel is the Recording level control in record mode , and it is Nice and smooth , plus you will have Dual Level meters in the display when recording.
  17. Yep .. Bob has a couple extra bottles of "Cool" laying around besides the two or three he uses.!
  18. Looks like a Stretched MD ! .....Kidding Very cool unit tho .
  19. The 907 will b a Moderate improvement , Line input =NO , unless you are dealing with earsplitting levels of sound. Battery life will be a little better yes what you will notice is more bass response , and a little warmer sound , but it will be a tighter pattern the 70 has a pretty wide pattern .the 907 will be more focused . If you want to make a BIG difference in your recording step up to a nicer mic. AT 822 (from Audio Technica) will make you a Happy man . The Audio quality of a GOOD mic will make your recording truly archivable , and usable.
  20. If you have them as wave files just go ahead and burn them to an Audio CD then , in worst case , you just copy them back onto MD from the CD Player using an Optical cable
  21. sounds like the cable that goes to the read head has just enough of a break so that there is contact at one point but as the head beging to move it breaks the contact and kills the signal. you must use your discs alot ... everyday , heavy user ? just guessing
  22. WOW , how much did it set you back (Used or new?) that is some srious gear there dude. Your recording options have indeed expanded. By the way , there is a firmware update for it if you havent already done so . http://www.sounddevices.com/index.html
  23. Right klik the file instead of the download button

I would be very interested in this if I had th proper slots . http://www.maycom.nl/NT.html
