ROMBUSTERS
After watching the Sony guy speaking about the new Hi-MD recorders I noticed the way he pronounces Atrac is different from how I have always said it. To me Atrac should be pronounced close to 8-Track but with obvious differences. The sony man however chose to say it with a more A-Track sound. How do you pronounce Atrac or is it different than those I have stated?

Syrius
Ah-Trac. I read about it in spanish first, and that's how it's pronounced in that language, and how it stuck with me.
KJ_Palmer
No.1 - or, more like A-Track. Like the letter 'A', as opposed to B-Track, C-Track etc. If that makes sense...

greenmachine
How about pronouncing the first letter in atrac like the first letter in 'adaptive'?
KJ_Palmer
Tried that one - A-Track (Eh-track) is surely best, trust me...Then again I admit that's purely from a native English speaker's point of view, as it were...
Christopher
I've pronounced it A-Track since day 1. Now I wonder how you really say it..

himdman
It's pronounced Ah-trac in order not to confuse it with 8-track.It's the first thing a desinger told me back in 1992

Leon
Is the guy Japanese? Cause ATRAC in katakana suggests "Ah" trac, but that'd be because the Japanese language is that way, not an indication that Sony intended it as Argh-trac for native English speakers as well. And I have in fact never said the word in real life
MDX-400
I too say "Eh-Track" like A-Track, close to 8-Track But I can imagine AT-Rack being used too, it still sounds okay like that...
sebastianbf
"A" as in Allison and TRAC like trackif you think about it the "A" letter in atrac means adaptative so I think it should be pronounced as in the word.

D-EJ915
Considering that it's a ...whatever that thing is called...first letter of each word...and all the words in it are EnglishIt should be pronounced as if it were an English word.Hence, Ay-TrackAlso, Sony was created to sound as if it were an American company and not sound "asian" like Honda, etc. and all of their names have been this way since the beginning. So , I pronounce the "a" as in adaptative and ... track. ←Hmm, pronounced as in 'attractive'? I still think many Minidisc owners use the Ay -trac pronunciation, maybe because we are accustomed to saying eM Pee Three.Somehow a distict first syllable 'sounds' better.Or maybe there is just a cross-Atlantic difference, like many other words.Andrew
