Hi everybody, today i have gone to the BIC CAMERA shop to take a look at RH1,

it dispoints me a lot.

1. the eject button is easy to push suddently, I think. when you put it in your pocket.

2. the top buttons are hard to push. also the record button.

3. the font is too small to see.

4. there are 4 rubbers at the button side of MD, it is too small, I think someday

in the future they will go. this design for portable MD is meaningless.

5. and others. personally, I don't like the design.

I think SONY is lost his ability on designing the MD. after NH1. RH10 and RH1 and

other models are bad design.

oh. forget to tell you, the USB is mini-B usb.

sorry for my poor english. i just can't express how dispoint when I look at it...

I decide to buy a NH1 instead if possible.

Price too high? the RH10 is at least $225 depending on where you get it, and it doesn't do as much, and the things that they both do, the RH1 (in spec anyway) does better.

Different strokes for different folks, but I think that the hard button pressing (which will become easier over time) is a good thing. And lets not forget that this is mainly a recording unit, so it is set up as such. Quite frankly I think that this is something that Sony got 'almost' completely right....there are issues, but liveable and the price will most certainly come down or promos will be involved (ie, mic or something) For the price, if it works well, this is one heck of a portable recording studio.

Just my $.02 :)

Even with issues like this, I will probably get one before the year is out. I need to curb a bit...I just bought an NH900...should have it today or tomorrow and I can't wait!

"the eject button is easy to push suddenly, I think. when you put it in your pocket"

I don't say you are not right, but I imagine sony would have never been so absent-minded. It would be shocking to discover a failure like that, wouldn't it?.

that seems like a small problem for me (rayzray); also seems like a challange;

i (rayzray) would grind down the button;; or build up a "Protective Rim" AROUND the button;; or something like that;

or, maybe go to the leather shoppe and have a special "holster" made for it; you know; like the fweakin ones you see for the i-pods selling for a rediculous price!

a little imagination goes a long way; i wouldn't let a tree toppling on my car stop me from going to see "The Flaming Lips" if they were performing down-state!

mate; skate a bit; skate till eight;; then wait; and the problem will only be a small one.!

I tinkered with one this afternoon and brought a disc to listen to using it. I didn't find it disappointing but did find the price to be discouraging. I'll let a few months pass for the price to drop before picking one up.

Of course department store pricing is going to be the high cost spot. There is a reputable seller on e-bay BuyFromJapan who sells the rh1 for 60 usd less than the stores are asking.

Rich: Most likely as all high-end units have had such in the past, which can be changed either via unit or destination code in service mode.

I'm working on obtaining the service manual asap.

Also, how is this a disappointment? The functionality of this unit easily has delivered the best presentation for Minidisc ever, with maybe the exception of a high end deck. You buy this unit and you have it all. It'd be fun to see a cute or hip consumer unit again, but Sony must prioritize and cater to the live recording enthusiast in an attempt to keep the format going. Hopefully higher densities will come soon.

Oh you tease

I think the eject button is NOT that easy to push. I remember reading something to that effect in the mega release thread. The font size doesn't look any smaller than the bulk of the text on the RH1 screen and the OLED is certainly more readable than the NH1 or any of the remote control displays (backlit or otherwise). I think this is a good release if you take the unit for what it is.. a recorder. Aside from the volumes of new or otherwise improved features the RH1 will make recording FUN again instead of fighting with the equipment over silly nuisances that wear your patience thin.

Hi guys, I post this thread just to express my feeling when I first look

at the RH1. I am not a reviewer, I don't know the internal quailty of this

unit too. I just give something about this unit since I can first physcially

touch this unit. that is the advantage when I work in Japan.

personlly, when I bought the R900 and NH3D, I like the ROCK feeling when I

touch those units. RH1 didn't give me that feeling. also when I first time

touch the RH10.

I am not telling you not to buy this unit. ;-)

Bland I was just curious does the JP version of the RH1 have the menus on the Oled in Japanese as well as English?

the menu is English. I can't see any japanese charactor in the menu.

The only disappointments I have so far is the lack of track title display on the unit, and the fact Sony USA will not include the 35ELK. Other than that, it's pretty good unit, even if you only use it for playback, notably the metal casing, slim form factor, and improved MP3 playback.

Lucky you. At least in the USA the gadget won't be volume capped like it sure will be in Europe. You can buy another remote but we have to find out how to remove that annoying restriction.
