  1. Nah, in your case they are one and the same. You have (well, had) a login name that is different from your display name, that's all. There's no actual merging to do.
  2. Believe it or not there are no less than 9 id's with caveman in. Several of them are clearly from the same person. You can PM me your old email address if you like ....
  3. You are correct, there is no version of Sonic Stage for Macs I'm putting this in a new topic as it will then be found more easily by searching. However: 1. Recent Macs have the ability to host Windows, and partial success has been reported (there are many possibilities, so we cannot give you a definitive answer) with running SS under a hosted Windows. The catch is always how the USB support behaves when you change modes on a HiMD (which is capable of both HiMD and "legacy MD" support but switches personality and therefore drivers when you pop in the other kind of disk) - this does not always happen smoothly. 2. There exists software using the MTP protocol that runs exclusively on Mac, but: a. I don't know much about it (others here probably do) b. It's limited to certain models, typically they are supposed to have M in their name such as MZ-M100, MZ-M10, MZ-M100. I am not sure how much of this is pure marketing and you just need the right software, or whether these are genuine hardware restrictions. The encryption changed at some point, relaxing it perhaps for the Mac implementation so that may be the difference. 3. The Linux-Minidisc project is cross-platform and should support varieties of Mac, but the last time I checked there was little or no support for creating MD's - ie upload (Mac->PC) only.

  5. No, but if you can figure out how to upload the picture some people would actually see it. I'm sorry if there is a problem at the moment with uploads (I had something weird happening myself) but some people seem to have posted pictures. A link to a site like picasa (sorry for the ad) or youtube (ditto) might be more enticing to people to look at your link. And... welcome to our forums!
  6. Sorry but when someone posts a link in their first post here, people tend not to read it.
  7. I've merged this new request with your original post of 18 months ago. The answer is simple: MZ-RH1 (known as MZ-M200 when sold with a microphone) and a PC. Mac will not do it, you have to run Windows. However the bad news is that RH1's have gone from available to not-available through the retail channel. Consequently prices for a new unit have gone through the roof. Good luck with your quest!

    This...

Well, there were others made after that. Specifically the MZ-N910, 920 (with microphone and line inputs) and MZ-DN420 and 430 (without either). The biggest problem I have with my 810 is that it won't run (power) off the USB (none of the NetMD units will). The second biggest problem is that the contacts on the radio tend to get unreliable leading to erratic working when turning the radio function on and off. I bought a replacement radio, which also works in an NH700. But 510,610,710,810,910 as well as NE410, DN420/430 are all Type-S.

    This...

Sorry, I forgot. Unfortunately out there in the USA it would appear that many units advertised as NH600 are in fact NH600D. This makes quite a difference as the D model does not have even a line in socket or a DC input. None of the 600's are able to recharge batteries. Outside N America the unit is usually the full featured model. So whilst I like it, to my thinking the 600 isn't quite the real deal if you need to make do with only one hiMD unit.

    This...

I'd be a bit dubious buying from that guy, as he clearly doesn't know what he has. One of those units is an RH10 aka M100. The most reliable HiMD seems to be the NH700 which takes an AA battery. However the NH900 which is based on gumstick ("prismatic") NiMH, does allow the sidecar AA battery case.
  11. Not recommended, at least by me. The one time I tried double clicking and/or drag-dropping files into Sonic Stage, something terrible happened to my Sonic Stage database. In particular what happened was that somehow everything (well, any track that lacked some of the metadata, such as an Artist field - this happens a lot with classical music) got contaminated with metadata from the file that I had attempted to drag-drop onto SS. I have seen the behaviour (and error) which OP describes. For me it occurred when the db had some sort of previous experience of the file in question. My recommended clean solution is to do as follows: 1. Put SS in "All Tracks" mode (instead of viewing by Artist, or Album) 2. Search through for any track that's not playing correctly (hopefully you haven't messed thousands of tracks!) and delete IT from the db. Always avoid deleting the music file from the computer. 3. Stop Sonic Stage, and reboot Windows (some program such as SSAAD.exe had the file open, or perhaps a network access from another computer on the home network). 4. Re add the file(s) Generally at this point the problems ceased. Another solution for INDIVIDUAL files (this won't work for many files you will wear out the mouse and keyboard) is to use MOVE from a working file to its new position. Another solution when running out of space (what usually triggers this in the first place) on the hard disk, is to use JUNCTION.EXE to mount a directory on a new hard disk instead of the old directory on the old hard disk. Here are the steps for that. Let's suppose you had the root of the SS data in C:SSmusic 1. Exit SS, and rename SSmusic to (say) SSmusicXXXX 2. Create a folder on your new drive called the same as the old one (SSmusic in my example) 3. Copy (using Windows explorer or any copy routine) the entire structure of what is below SSmusic to the new drive. So instead of all your music being in C:SSmusic, it's in H:SSmusic, for instance. 4. Download JUNCTION and go to a dos prompt and type: JUNCTION C:SSmusic H:SSmusic 5. Restart Sonic Stage and see that magically all your music appears to be in C:SSmusic (in fact it's not) when really it's in H:SSmusic 6. DELETE the C:SSmusicXXXX folder (once you are 100% sure all is copied and functional in the "new" location). The advantage of this is that SS doesn't even know that you moved any of its music, so the database is untouched. The only caveat with this is that deleting empty directories has to be done on H: rather than C: when you are doing routine cleanup. Some weirdness of Windows. It's common to blame SonicStage - but I have a feeling the problem is caused by trying to do something with omgjbox.exe (what it was called before SS) that it originally did not do Hope this helps.
  12. Fair enough. Probably you should have posted a new topic to avoid this sort of trap. I don't know of ANY source to these onkyo hiMD service manuals yet.
  13. Firstly let's split this into a new topic. Harald, I think you probably have some option in Windows to ignore hashes (or CRCs or signing). I'll do my best to investigate, but now you know what to look for, I think you can do the same
  14. http://www.jp.onkyo....df/md-105fx.pdf I can't upload it because of some site issue (here) at the moment. I have the Japanese version of the B8 ready to go, too.
  15. 36 downloads

Translation into English of manual for Onkyo HiMD bookshelf X-B7 or X-B8 (B7 doesn't include speakers).
  16. I will upload to the downloads sections. Thank you!
  17. You're welcome. You did well. Our thoughts are with you as you survive the mess over on the East Coast. Note: that driver should support ALL NetMD units, not just the RH1, assuming you went to our downloads section.
  18. try this in search engine(s): jim.hoggarth site:ebay.co.uk He will often pop in here. His repair listing is missing at this moment, maybe it expired and he forgot to renew. Plenty of satisfied customers on the board here.
  19. Talk to Jim Hoggarth, I should think. The same effect can probably happen if there is a mechanical aspect of one the units which has a little more friction than usual. But dimming of the LCD is a clear indicator. Once I adjusted my own NH900's overall operating voltage it seems to have stayed working (initially you couldn't see the screen properly and fixing the main supply voltage brought back the LCD).
  20. I ran for almost a year before getting my 100V transformer. YMMV. Can you measure the voltage coming out of it? If you are getting 117 or higher (usually the voltage here) probably best not. But If it's really delivering 110 maybe you are ok to test it.
  21. Unlike me you didn't have the option of running direct off the mains for a while. The transformer design is interesting, something called "bucking" where the stepped down voltage is fed back in to EITHER add OR subtract from the resulting voltage (before rectification, I think). In principle the transformers are all the same with different connections. But if you look at Sony's parts listing you will see one for each possible destination. I imagine Onkyo and other mfrs would do the same or similar.
  22. Items like this are a good reminder to be careful with your online account information, in case somebody fakes it..
  23. I don't know much about Macs but I do have a brother-in-law whose Mac (new-ish) perfectly runs Windows 7. And thence Sonic Stage - I actually installed it and tested it out.
