  1. Can I do that myself or must I ask help to Pham Cu ? The unit don't charge his gumdtick battery too... maybe cause by my lack of "power adjustement"

  3. Good price http://cgi.ebay.fr/Sony-MZ-NH700-mini-disc-recorder-No-Reserve-/230734995880?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b8e0a1a8
  4. This one clean his nose with it : http://annonces.ebay...300R/5051277966 same same here : http://annonces.ebay.fr/viewad/SONY-MINIDISC-MZ-1/5051178964
  5. I borrowed it from phamcu to try it during the vietnamese new year period (Têt). This is a huge machine. I am sorry it is not a sampler... The unit like any MD player is only able to listen to one track at a time. But it work faster than any deck and as you can understand faster than any portable unit to change track and to go to any cue point you want, make a loop, etc. I am so sorry it is not possible to mix an external source with a MD track directly. Ok, I need an external mixer to do that. You can change speed, pitch and use the scrub dial. Compare to a recent machine you miss many features but it is the ONLY MD unit for DL guys ! Kind of collector. For what it could be useful for me ? I have a Korg Kaossilator and a miniKP. The Korg Kaossilator is a "Dynamic Phrase Synthetizer". You can have a good idea of what to do with it here (Yellow Album) : http://www.reverbnat.../theyellowalbum . The Korg miniKP is "Dynamic Effect Processor". There are plenty of videos on Youtube. I also have Fruity Loops Studio 9 on my computer but that is gas factory. It is not difficult to RECORD any music I create with the Kaossilor +/- FL Studio 9 with a MD deck or portable MD +/- Korg miniKP ---> amplifier or headphone but the use all these tracks after all in a DJ session to be able to make a long track, that it quite a challenge. The MDS-DRE1 is perhaps a good tool to take in charge the "long track" work, not forgetting to write on a block note what settings did I used for each track with both the Kaossilator, both FL Studio 9 (to be able to do it again !). I will be able to record dozen of short tracks based on close settings. Then I will keep only good ones jointly with a choice of effects applied by the Korg miniKP. There is a feature nammed BrackTracking that allowed to record an external source during a MD track playback. But there no way to mix that new track during or after the recording. Just apply one pad to this new track. The MDS-DRE1 is not like a sampler. A sampler allow to apply tracks to pads and then play selected tracks at the same time. For that the MDS-DRE1 is not the machine I am searching for as you cannot play more than one track at the same time. Look like more a recorder for me but it is a good one as editing is more easy on the MDS-DRE1 than on my JB980. Still need a mixer to do what I want. What do you think ?
  6. When I think that there are thousands of MD boomboxes in Vietnam so easy to find (and cheap).
  7. Sadly I did not take time to listen to my JA555ES as I sold it directly to phamcu when I came back in Vietnam. But I can come to listen to his complete ES deck collection anytime. As I need a good CD player to replace my Cyrus daD3, I financed my new Marantz CD5004 (US$ 304) by selling my JA555ES. I have already a JB980, a MDS-B5, 2 bookshelves, some portable units. Not a real big collection but big enough for me.

  9. http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=16445 Really good post on tapeheads.net
  10. That old generation of Net-MD MD units work well in general. I just noticed some charging battery problem on units which have a gumstick battery inside. Personnaly I use SP and LP2, not LP4 and close to 100% of my MDs are recorded in real time. I have two units of this generation, a blue Sony MZ-N510 and a grey MZ-N710. As the MZ-N505 is not type S but type R, it is a perfect match for SP recording & listening.
  11. how much did you pay for your JA555ES ?
  12. Welcome AT LAST on this forum my dear jonathanpotato
  13. TEAC MD-5 deck in France for 250 euros. Youpi ! "Appareil NEUF" = the guy never sold it... http://cgi.ebay.fr/TEAC-MD5-NEUF-lecteur-enreg-de-MiniDisc-Ht-de-gamme-PARFAIT-/260929234089
  14. The more units you have, the more you come back to MDLP and even SP
  15. I am lucky with Pham Cu at my door ! Jim, remind us here what is the complete service you can offer.
  16. I sold my JA555ES but it is to buy CEC CD 3300 + ampli CEC 3300, both in class A and with a XLR modulation connection and AES/EBU output (also Toslink & coaxial). I have a professionnal CD recorder, a Sony MDS-B5 - my first deck ever bought for 100 euros - with AES/BU input but sadly the chipset recording inside is not working any more. It is not important as I prefer to record with type-R units. And like I do all my recordings in real time on standard MDs, mostly with my JB980 or my MZ-RH1. I download a lot of music (no law against that in Asia, also the only way to get that music...), specially 24bit-96kHz albums. My PC has a Creative X-Fi Platinium audio card. My laptop has an external X-Fi Xmod USB audio card that I also use with my portable units sometimes.
  17. Who can repair such a MD in USA ? Only those I know who would be able to do the job for cheap money : - sfbp in Canada, who has good knowledge to care of most basic electronic problems - jonathanpatate in France (web site Laserdisc Plaza) who has like sfbp a good experience in MD units problems - phamcu in south Vietnam who is a professionnal, specialize in MD decks (but he has all the electronic stuff to adjust a laser) - jim.hoggart in UK who is also a professionnal, specialize in MD portable units (SP and MDLP generations) Unless you can find somebody in USA who can do the job for cheap money, it is perhaps better to negociate a discount with your buyer. I know it because he asked for mine, phamcu is looking for such a faulty unit for less than 100$.
  18. I finally bring my black JA555ES to Vietnam. What a machine (tough & heavy guy) ! Inside it is a dream for high-end unit lover. Sadly as I need money to buy a new CD player (and the amplifier which come with, CEC CD 3300 + ampli CEC 3300 for 320 euros) so I sold it to Pham Cu, my electronic ingeneer friend who is a strong connaisseur of how to repair MD units (specially decks & bookshelves, see here : http://www.5giay.vn/showthread.php?t=3360572) and a fan of the Sony ES minidisc serie. Solding it to Pham Cu secure me that I will have discount prices for all his services.
  19. I cannot see your auction (not authorized, restriction area as I live in Vietnam) BUT the pictures of this combo MD + CD bookshelf on the web look very beautiful. Huge screen !
  20. It is a huge work for each of us to do the same. Minidisc equipment browser in minidisc.org is enough for me, and if not, I dowload user's manual of each unit and then take the time to read specifications. Is not the MZ-RH1"best quality codec" PCM@ 24 bit - 44.1kHz ?
  21. Hi again, parzival. So sad for you, the Sony MDS-MX1 has been sold to a spanish fellow six months ago. But Pierre still have the JVC XM-D88 as an alternative. http://www.jvc-coda.ru/image/ux-d88.jpg imageshack.us/photo/my-images/715/1180333679.jpg/ If you are interested, I will give you his direct contact.
