I am not that sure that buying an Hi-MD recorder to finally record in PCM format is a good solution nowadays, IF you don't have / or in the next future don't find many 1 Gb Hi-MDs blanks. That could be a very expensive pleasure. Why not with classic MD blanks ? But then you must get a lot of them AND being ready to change discs as often as you did a long time ago with LPs. Hi-SP recording and CD-MD deck / bookshelf are other stories. Think of how much that will cost you finally, that will help you to make the good choice. With time you will forget even to download any MP3 on your Hi-MD units.

Not realy MD, but 555,95 $US for a cassette auto-audio adaptator, the guy took cocaïne when he published his auction. http://cgi.ebay.fr/SONY-CPA-9C-9-MP3-iPod-Mini-Disc-CD-Player-Auto-Adaptor-/260797548082?pt=MP3_Player_Zubehör&hash=item3cb8bec632

I will be able to answer you when I will be in France the 23th december, then I will bring all my units in Vietnam, except maybe one for my father. That RH1 has been sold with a working jog level so I suppose I will be able to get into service mode as explained in the eBay auction body text : <<!! The device does not work perfectly !! He is still able to read and record standard MD but has some problems in the shuffle and recording in Hi-MD. It makes a noise and can no longer find easily the location on disk. Aesthetically, the unit has only very slight traces of use. It comes with all original accessories: SONY RM-MC38EL - Backlit LCD remote control, earphones, optical cable, rechargeable batteryLIP-4WM, charger with European power plug (free UK power plug on request), USB cable, drawstring pouch and instructions in French.>>
-
And as my black RH1 in France seem to have the same problem, I will be interested too.

Just look at what I have found on eBay France the last months....

Pitch Control Function : You can change the MD playback speed (pitch). The tone falls at lower pitches. If one of your unit have it Do you have a pitch control for the tape listening on your bookshelf ? Maybe usefull in your case !

Flac + foobar2000 Asio4all or KS audio output depending your system, if you can up to 24 to 32bit output data format, sweep sample rate (advanced settings) if you can up to 192000 If you want no gap, don't use the post-track silence DSP. Just go to the end of each track (suppose to be here) and create T-marks because your MD will often combine tracks.
-
Hi-MD is usefull if you want to record a complete box set, a complete opera, etc. It is also usefull when you travel if you do not want to bring a lot of Mds. One day you will have one, for sure. Don't hurry, just wait the right auction. I have the JB980, you must be as happy as I am with your JB780.
-
I woud be happy to have that choice ! Do you know Picas Md channel ? You can have a better idea to what you got. https://picasaweb.google.com/minidisc.channel
-
A good test would be to connect the portable unit line out to a MD deck entry and to set the line out volume so that a recording at +0.0dB is possible without any distortion peak.

I hope that Rockbox is working better on your Toshiba than it does on an Ipod... What are those DSO modes, different settings of the DSP ?
-
For me, only the car unit and the deck have a certain value. MZ-R37 is quite a vintage unit and as so could find a new home easily but around $20-$50 depending your luck and the quantity of MDs your offer as a bonus. The boombox is sadly not something sought. Even here in Vietnam, it is the cheapest way to keep in touch with the MD format. Just keep everything, you will not make a lot of money with it. Better to sell your Ipods.

I record also from my computer with my optical out (Creative X-Fi / foobar2000 + KS audio output + Post-Track silence) in rela time using SP and LP2. Files are mostly 24bit-88or96kHz downloaded from the web (I am lucky, I live in a country where ther is not a law to forbid it), so settings are set on 24bit out + 192 khz (got some Michael Jackson songs like that... more than 5100kbps). I use my JB980 both for recording and as a DAC. Note that a now use ReplayGain on all my files before a recording on a MD.

If it could be the brown version, it would be darker.

I was wondering if all units which allow 2x or speeder copy make that way only fake SP. Real SP is only real time recording or is there an alternative ?
-
Do you remember if it had a good sound compare to your Sony deck arriving just after ?
-
So maybe it sound good too.

just see on eBay UK Grundig MDC-65 Minidisc & CD Combi Deck http://cgi.ebay.fr/G...0#ht_500wt_1204 No idea Grundig made one MD deck.

1) from the moment the MD is not any more wrapped, it is consider are a used one. To distingued such MDs never recorded or just deleted there is no way except perhaps the aspect of the MD itself. Maybe the service mode will give you more information about the disk but it is risky to enter inside service mode. 2) that depend on what you want to record. For example for a completely new recording, it is better to format using All Erase. For a re-recording of the same tracks, maybe you would like to keep the titles of the disc and name of groups, then edit your MD and delete only tracks.
