Change the minidisc mainboard.
punkrockaddict replied to qualia017's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Great work.I wish i had only one of these units -
Yea i forgot about.I´ll post them after lunch now I had the unit already playing when it was just fixed. But lately i , to my bad luck, bend the Overwritehead by myself as was was puzzling the thing together. So its a player right now
-
you probably can´t see this without disassemble the unit. i´ll take pictures of an opened RH10 and post these so that you have a clue of what area iam talking about Hey Phillipe if i may ask.. why do you recommend to contact Jim? Idk why but my Mails i send him didn´t get read even after months. And i read somewhere in the Forums this had not only happen to me. This is probably not a big issue so i think he can find out himself.
-
seriously i think it won´t be a matter of firmware. does it spin the disc ? maybe its just the "disc-in" connector that is bad. already tried to press down the unit on the bottom left ? There is the pin that usually gets pressed down to indicate a disc is inside and to read it.

C13 Read error on JB980 but only with recordable minidiscs
punkrockaddict replied to PhL's topic in Minidisc
A Fact is that with recordable MInidiscs (Low Reflection Type) the Laser needs 0,8mW to read. For pre-recorded (High Reflective Type) it only needs 0,4mW. Pre-recorded do have pits and lands as a usual bought cd has other than recordable have.It is a different kind of "reading" the disc I have had a NH900 with the same behaviour.I couldn´t fix it.. Try to look in the service menu what error codes are stored. That´s afaik all you can do at first instance. Hope this explains as much as it should -
FS: Five different portable MDs, discs, and accessories, craigslist
punkrockaddict replied to roflol's topic in Classifieds
afaik n NH600 won´t ever get anywhere up to 150 bucks. A realistic price is 1/3 of that. RH10´s sell for that but no way for an entry level hi-md Selling them seperateld is the best way .to earn money. -
hell yeah this was one of a masterpiece as it worked like hell. I´ll upload pics soon. One thing i can say is that the RH1 plays again I only need to put the case back together and then i´ll try to upload some discs. The soldering is not what one should try at first instance but i managed it.Did it one time before with a NH900 so wasn´t that hard at all Any comments on this ?

I trying to figure out if it would be possible to fix a broken RH1 with parts from a working RH10. As the Rh1 has a defect Laser and is missing its overwrite head it´s kinda useless atm. I took a look and compared both and came to the idea of replacing the top of the insert mechanism. I didn´t go any further till now. But i´ll try this tomorrow. Unfortunately Jim don´t read my messages so i have to find this out by myself ;-) The RH10 is all good and has had very low recording horus srored in its memory but the casing is cracked and the display is dead. So this would be a perfect match to get one player working again That would be RH1 #6 if i succeed. I guess nobody holds spare parts for the RH1 here, right?

Yea that´s correct. I can´t clearly remember what unit it was but it was netmd capable. So this must have happened in the early 2000´s One awful thing is that i didn´t catch a new unit until 2010. It was a joy to listen to all those old md records again.

Maybe you should take a look at the Dl section in this Forum
-
my experience was that these Usb-> spdif out don´t do trackmarks very well. may also depend on playback software. I used it for a short period and had to insert all marks afterwards on the recorder itself. i played flac files with vlc cause i had no cd-r at that time This was pretty much work as one can imagine. I think it was Md POrt 2 i was using. its collecting dust in a box now :D

punkrockaddict replied to mdm111's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
I think what you got is a Data Drive .Not an Audio Player. See minidisc.org ;-) -
How to use an MD disc for data purposes?
punkrockaddict replied to mdm111's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
i think you just need md data blanks neertheless these can be used in normal md recorders for recording and playback.Don´t know if your drive takes normal blanks as well Seems it won´t accept these.. -
Ja-555ES parts availability 2013?
punkrockaddict replied to TonyCH's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
why not open it up? That´s just some screws ? There´s no harm if you do this careful enough.Once you know what is possibly defect you could ask for a refund and do a repair , not? May i ask what you paid for it ? -
Ja-555ES parts availability 2013?
punkrockaddict replied to TonyCH's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Afaik there are sometimes Lasers in the bay. SO now that we can just guess what´s wrong with the 555 i should share a story of a JE480 Deck i once bought very cheap as defect. It showed nearly exactly the same signs.. just 2 times click from its relais and a stand by led .I opened it up and the defect part jumped into my eye immediately. It had a cracked power supply board .. nothing bad at all.I fixed it and it came back to life at once after the glue was stick. I think you should open it up and take a look.Maybe share a pic with us from the Power board itself 4 example. Parts would be very hard to get, even from a defect unit you would pay lots of cash without knowing it turns out good. keep an eye on the PSB ^^ -
heya folks what´s your most often used device when used outdoors ? I used to take my N10 but its battery kinda sucks now. I like the DH10p ( carefully packed ) in my bag now as its sound is superb. Second one i use is the DR580.. as a backup device When change discs in the tube for example ppl use to stare at the discs again(specially those with design like the Bit Club ).I remember this happening in the mid 90´s and it seems to repeat now.

Can Sonic Stage 4.3 copies LPCM mode from CD to Hi-MD?
punkrockaddict replied to Happy Hopping's topic in Minidisc
You better encode your Music with Sound Forge. You can choose better Quality settings there for atrac3+ for example. Concerning PCM idk if this will be better, but i guess it is. The perfect but more unconvinient solution would be ripping Cds with Eac and the importing thw .wav files in SoS. greetings.. and happy testing -
Forget it. I didn´t see those Cases in some years on ebay.
