  1. what did you mean by "external"??? because if u're just talking about these jacks as being available on the unit then most of Sony's mid-top range models (from N710 onwards) carry these jacks as do most of the Sharp units as well(DR420/480/580 etc)... sorry to disappoint but there is no such model atm that is capable of this faster than realtime through USB...u can however record from MD->PC through old school ways of using analogue cables...
  2. the 838's that come with the N10 were fine by me...they were the ones that came with my discman ages back as well...but i use the EX71's and the E888's now...both are very comfy....the EX71 is more so since they're made out of this really nice soft silicon whereas the E888's are just similar to the other earbud headphones out there (made out of plastic) but it feels more comfy when wearing them...

    Cannot Transfer

use the Creative Recorder software that came bundled with your soundcard and see if it can detect the levels of the input...also try taking alook in the Volume control panel and check that all your input ports are at full volume level and unmuted (just to see if any signal goes through) and again check the levels of the LINE IN of the card from Creative's Recorder and then try playback something as a test to see if the VU meters move at all...
  4. u use the Line IN jack on your PC's soundcard...i think most of the soundcards out there already have it...the cable is just a typical double ended 3.5mm stereo plug that you can find in most electronic accessory stores...
  5. i would say that the N910 is one of the flagship models out by Sony...so it will have all the bells and whistles that u would expect in a high end portable recorder from Sony...and re that q Maxin2003 had unless you are planning to fix something i would say that u keep well away from the service mode on the N910...just wait a while and it should be up on the equipment browser...
  6. i di'n think Sony still used MegaBass on their newer units...oh well i spose u learn something new everyday...
  7. they are more or less similar with a few features that are in one unit and not in the other...the DR420 being newer sports NetMD capability whereas the 480 doesn't...but that's basically more or less it...the DR480 does have the trac back recording feature whereas the DR420 doesn't...also the DR480 has a backlit LCD remote whereas the DR420 doesn't (it's just a normal stick non-LCD remote)...
  8. colour ones are fine for everyday recording sessions...personally i use the Sony Prisms, Neige and ES series...i'm about to get a few MD2000 blanks and test out the quality of them as well...but the majority of my MD's come from those three and the colour series from different companies...the ES ones are meant to be Sony's highest grade of quality media and is reserved for high quality recordings since they'r slightly more expensive...
  9. i'd say they might drop down for the Christmas rush since they want to sell as much stock as possible and are willing to cut prices down a bit...and from what i've heard i don't think that Sharp will be releasing anything new early 2004...
  10. don't think so...i hav'n seen any thing that is of higher capacity...
  11. try to reinstall SonicStage again and see if that works...if not try updating it...
  12. yep it's possible to dismantle the unit and clean it...check out the service manual to see how...i wouldn't say that it's that hard to do since i've dismantled my friend's N707 unit before...
  13. u can just use the Creative Recorder program to record from the LINE IN to a .wav format...
  14. they should be better than the NiCd batteries but it still has the memory effect...i think the only batteries that have neglible memory effect would be the Li-Ion/Lithiun Polymer or the upcoming Zinc-Air batteries...but getting back to ur q yes it does shorten the life of the battery so it's better if you charge it directly on the unit rather than on the cradle (i heard that if the battery is fully charged u can't overcharge it when the adaptor's plug-in to the unit no matter how many times you try to push the charge button...not too sure of this since i've never tried it myself...)
  15. the simple answer to this is no...there are no MD units that will allow faster than real-time uploading from MD -> PC...
  16. this is meant to happen since the cradle that came with it doesn't exactly have a function which senses the charge on the battery when the unit is on it...so even if full it will still try and charge the battery for an extra ???hrs...(and also NiMH batteries don't have those funky chipsets in them to determine the est. remain batt life like those infolithium batteries do so it will still keep charging regardless whether or not it's full)...

    transfer probs..

try and update th software that you are currently using to the latest one to see if this fixes the problem (it usually does for me)...otherwise if all fails just re-install the program along with the NetMD driver...
  18. you can basically use any recording software out there such as the Creative Recorder that comes with all Creative soundcards...otherwise if you want a more full fledge package that will allow you to monitor the file being recorded then you can use Adobe Audition...
  19. yep that's more or less true...it works in most cases...try using the LAME encoder for conversions of mp3 to wav...i use winLAME but there are others such as RazorLAME and so on...just google it or something and you'll find a wealth of LAME encoders out there...
  20. more or less the same...SonicStage v1.2 and OpenMG v2.2 have more or less the same interface...though SonicStage v1.5 just has a revamped interface that looks funkier...that's about it...
  21. yes...all sharp units are very good for use in live recording environments... i would think not...you can control the levels on the unit to prevent this from happening and with smaller mics (Sony ones anyway) i haven't really encountered much distortions when recording from them provided that i'm not standing too close to the source i'm recording from (if the source is very loud like a loud speaker i mean)... it's cool...i know what you mean...the DR420 is a good unit IMO... well i don't think there is really that much of a difference between the two models besides the DR470 having a backlit LCD remote that you can view while recording without taking your recorder out to check on things, since the DR420 doesn't have an LCD on its remote...but otherwise the two units are almost the same with a few minor differences between the two like they both feature the 1-bit mobile amp as well as the dr420 having NetMD capability where the dr470 does not...that's bout it i would think...
  22. hehe...uh not really i wouldn't consider myself as one...i just help out where i can... yep basically mp32md adds a long pause between tracks and it kind of does something with the optic signal that makes the MD's optical input recognise that it's a silent track and thus the sync record function adds in an auto track mark... you can find the link to d/l mp32MD program here...and i don't think that it's possible for CD's to be copied over to MD using this program...since the only file extensions (in my version which is not that recent) is .mp3, .wav, .mid, .wma, .asf & .snd...i think the newer version may or may not have CD compatibility...but check it out nonetheless... i would say so...if you use WinAmp i hear that there is a plug-in that will allow a gap to be put inbetween songs so that it can be picked up by the MD recorder as a silent track and create a new track mark...i can't remember the name of it atm but i'll try and hunt around for a link to it....

    Optical Output

unfortunately the N707 does NOT have optic output either only decks do (unless there is a very new model that does and i'm not aware of it) but if you were talking about the NetMD USB interface then NetMD feature was not designed for uploading and as such that is why you cannot upload your recordings from your MD -> PC (NetMD transfer only go one way and that is from PC -> MD and not the other way around)...to get your recordings up on your computer you need to use a program called winNMD (info can be found here) which basically uses analogue cables and in realtime...that's basically the only way i know of to u/l ur recordings back onto your PC....
  24. i usually use a program called mp32md...this leaves a gap inbetween songs and allows the MD to recognise this as an indication to put another track mark when sync record is turned on...
  25. personally i'm not entirely sure because i tend not to use RealOne unless i have to...from just using it a few times i would say a cautious no to the limit and i think you can record any or most mp3's to it...IMO the best method to transfer is to use the Nero + SimpleBurner method which is outlined here...this basically uses Nero (which is far less picky in encoding music files than any of the ones that support NetMD units) and SimpleBurner (which doesn't copy the copyright protection over so you can delete and modify the songs on your MD without being restricted to changing the order or deleting through your PC)
