This is a difficult question to answer, but I do know why I love the format. I believe that the live recording ability of higher end MD and Hi-MD machines is great for the price point, and with the right advice and equipments you can make quality recordings that would even make a DAThead think twice. Is Hi-MD the logical successor to DAT? The line which divides each seems smaller every day. I think that the growth of the format will be fueled by live recording enthusiasts who don't want something extremely portable, semi-functional and not too expensive. The disk stuff is keen, but as it stands we need higher densities. One gigabyte is much better than what we had before, but 2005 is going to bring higher densitity mp3/etc players and we'll be left out in the cold. Hopefully Sony or another company will release second generation Hi-MD devices that are not compatible with the old MD standard, but this Hi-MD generation and possibly a higher density disk. I doubt that we'll see that until the third generation, however. People seem to really like the concept of disks - it makes the amount of storage you can employ limitless [destroying your wallet in the process], and gives you a better piece of mind with the safety of your music/recordings. I rather have disks that are encased than a portable hard drive. If someone wanted to employ Hi-MD/MD and only play music would I recommend it? Possibly not. This is a good solution for people who are budget concious, but as the iPod/etc matures and used and older generations go down in price we may lose a considerable amount of people with interest in the format. There's so many more strengths to the Hi-/MD format that I could discuss, but I don't want to choke this thread. I definitely am much more excited about the direction that MD is going with the Hi-MD format, and Sony seems to actually care. Having this many Sonicstage revisions is really amazing, considering how few they had with Sonicstage 1. I just hope that they keep working on Sonicstage and make it a better software utility. One can dream, I suppose.

Are you comparing SP recordings made from the JE500 to SP recordings made on the NH600, or are you comparing SP from the JE500 and Hi-SP from the NH600?

Welcome! I just downloaded the manual and it works fine. Are you using Acrobat Reader 6.0? If not, please upgrade.

Digital amp versus lower bitrate recordings...
Christopher replied to justin_barbier's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Just wanted to make sure you were paying a fair price, which I can see you are. To be honest however, I am not sure if the digital amp is worth the $50 difference, but then again I just dished out an extra $90 to have a black NH900. -
January isn't a definite. I would say more or less the first quarter of 2005. That seems very logical to me.

They record in 8kbps audio, and that's it. I'm moving this to the appropriate forum, btw.
-
Did you actually register with it? You have to within the program, I believe. Additionally, do you have any firewalls on or anything of that sort?
-
See what happens on that other machine with only software that is from connect.com. Be sure you only plug in the unit after everything is installed and the program is open!

Welcome to the forums. Please upgrade to Sonicstage 2.# first. Since you live in India, I'm not sure where you should go to download the latest software. I would assume www.connect-europe.com , I suppose.

I would first off employ a better battery than the stock one that came with the unit. Minidisc anti-shock is nearly fool-proof. Either these are defective units or something is missing out of the equation. We'll troubleshoot and see, however.

Digital amp versus lower bitrate recordings...
Christopher replied to justin_barbier's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
The digital amp brings coloration to your sound. There are very few people who do not enjoy this enhancement and therefore consider it worthy of upgrade. Another term for this is called, "signature sound". I believe that it is worth the upgrade, but I must inquire, where are you buying from? -
Musicmatch must be using DRM on those files. Sonicstage should be able to facilitate .wma and convert such files to ATRAC without any issue.
-
What format are the songs in?
-
Welcome to the forums. Did you get it from www.connect-europe.com ? If so, and still have problems, please reinstall via the directions in the NetMD faq [found within this forum].
-
If you're referring to the NH600D, I believe it's more than satisfactory for most applications. It really depends on the headphones your using, but as long as you don't buy a UK unit you should be fine. Welcome to the forums, btw.

Some last minute-questions (finally ready to buy)
Christopher replied to deafplayer's topic in Minidisc
You can always check out the recommendations for earphones in the sticky within the 'phones forum. -
Expensive.

OK then, do I NEED to use Sonic Stage? [for realtime upload]
Christopher replied to mgdimo's topic in Minidisc
Sonicstage must still facilitate the playback, but you can put it in skin mode and it'll be greatly minimized whilst you use the other utilities that you mentioned. btw, I've split this question because it's not really related to your inital inquiry in the topic and would be better served upon searches in the future. -
Sorry mate, I'm not sure what else to say. Is it the same with Simple Burner?
-
Sounds like it automatically formatted it for you, then. But yes. 290 is the max capacity for what I assume is a 74 minute disc. 300 is for the 80 minute ones.. But you must realize that they were half that. It's a sweet trade, imho.

http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/music...music-headlines I live about a mile away from this place. My city is full of morons.

You can use old MD discs and format them into Hi-MD mode, allowing for more storage space. It's discussed in the user manual, I believe. Definitely not! That's what forums are for.

I'm not sure if I understand your question. Can you rephrase it for me?

Welcome to the forums. The S1 is bulky, but for a kid it'd be a perfect unit. It features a backlit screen and NetMD functionality. Whilst the Psync does as well, the S1 would be the most durable and functional unit. It doesn't come with a remote, however, and cannot employ one. The orange backlit screen on the unit itself totally bests that, however. Are your kids concerned with size and such? Will they need a smaller unit?
