  1. Edited... I haven't gotten as much use out of my DH10P as I would have liked. It really is a fantastic unit, unfortunately the lack of any line/mic-input makes it little more than a cool gadget for a musician such as myself. ...I am on the lookout for recording units. Therefore, I am still contemplating letting it go to someone in exchange for either: one of the following: - MZ-NH1 - MZ-RH900 - MZ-RH10 - MZ-RH910 - Any MDLP recorder with Hi/Lo Mic sensitivity setting (this does not include a hacked MZ-N707). I'll also consider possibly trading for two MDLP recorders that lack mic sensitivity setting, provided they do in fact have a mic input. I am only interested in fully functioning units that are in good to very good condition. The MZ-DH10P I am offering is in superb condition and comes with the charging cradle and cables, I think I may also have the box around here somewhere. I might consider throwing in a couple of extras depending on the offer (blank discs, headphones, remotes)... I will post pics of the unit, as well as photos taken with the unit if wanted. Here is the communities page on the MZ-DH10P: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-DH10P.html Thanks!
  2. Hi there, this thread has some good information: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=4712
  3. thx all! I'll do my best! (couldn't get the day off from work)
  4. Do post back if you speak with Sony support regarding this. I have actually been debating RAID for some time, so I'd like to know of things like this prior.. thx
  5. Features in 4.2 that are absent in 3.4: - Importing and playing back in HE-AAC format is available. - Format support: *.3gp - Ripping Audio CD in HE-AAC format is available. - Bit rates for HE-AAC; 96kbps/80kbps/64kbps/48kbps/40kbps - DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) function is available. DSEE is a high-frequency completion technology developed by Sony that improves the quality of compressed audio and adds back in high frequencies that are often lost when audio is compressed. The resulting audio is closer to the original, more natural, and offers a wider sense of space. I'm running XP and tried 4.3, big headache and problems with uploading. I'd stick with 4.2 as the highest version unless yr running Vista.

  8. um... all first gen Hi-MD recorders can record in MDLP modes on-unit. only the second gen units lacked this feature (though could transfer MDLP via SonicStage).

  10. I have the RH10, which is similar to the RH910. ... In my experience it has been a pretty reliable unit. The OLED screen on mine finally went out (due to being dropped), but the unit still works fine. I got it when it was first available. The OLED screen of the RH10 units does suffer from some dimming over time. I honestly think the displays on the RH910's will outlast the RH10's. The only downsides to the RH910 in my mind are: 1 - Inability to record in MDLP formats on-unit. 2 - Mp3 playback, while included.. Is a bit lackluster. Regardless of those, if I was offered a like-new RH910 for a decent price I would almost certainly take it.
  11. I actually sent an email to Sony support asking about this (in regards to CONNECT store being phased out) but I haven't gotten a response... It's been about a week.
  12. I'll confirm that you can monitor the signal being recorded via headphones.. with just about any MiniDisc unit that I am aware of.
  13. You might want to look into MarCs Hi-MD renderer... I know his program (which is freeware, btw.. but he accepts donations) will convert your files directly to mp3, as well as other formats. I'm not positive but I would assume that it would create id3 tags for the file information. I've never used the program to create mp3 files directly so again I'm not sure. Here is MarCs site: http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/ MarC also is a member of the forums here so he should be able to clear some of my assumptions up.
  14. I'm not positive on this, but thought I'd mention it just in case... Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the subject can chime in though.. Is there a possibility that your video / audio may go out of sync with the 48kHz -vs- 44.1kHz?
  15. Yes, you need to use SonicStage. However, you can transfer the mp3 files as-is with SonicStage, so no transcoding/converting is done. Hi-MD audio disk structure is encrypted, which is why drag & drop of mp3 files does not work (at least you can't play them on the unit this way).
  16. Another similar program worth trying out is the shareware "GoldWave". While not freeware, it has some features that Audicity is lacking at a better price than Audition. The trial is unhindered as far as I am aware,.
  17. The downloads section here in the forums has the most recent version of the software. I wouldn't recommend installing the software that came with the RH1, as it lacks some fuctionality present in the newer version.
  18. Personally I follow this method to remove DRM from my files: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16088 Having done that, the files can be stored/moved anywhere and then re-imported into SonicStage with no problems.
  19. You mention players only... Does the recording functionality of these units work?
  20. Sounds intriguing ... I'll definitely check that one out. Any other suggestions?
  21. Alright guys... In an effort to decrease the wear and tear of my beloved MiniDisc units, I am in search of a relatively inexpensive (less than $200USD) Mp3 player. Ideally I would want the following features: - Drag & Drop (so I can use it w/linux!). - 4 or more GB of storage, the more the better. - User-replaceable battery. - Line-in recording. - Support for various formats (mp3, ogg, flac, etc). - Sturdy feel (not cheap plastic feel...). And any neat/essential features I may have missed. If you know of something that doesn't have some of the features I've listed, mention it anyway. Also I am not opposed to installing rockbox for more features/codecs/etc. My MiniDisc units are not going anywhere! I just wanted to reiterate that... I really want to keep them in top shape for recording, so I want to find something to drag around for listening. Oh and... Don't even think about mentioning the iP** word. Thanks guys!
  22. Yeah there is a much better subforum for this... I'm sure the mods will get it moved for you though. As for your situation, this particular problem does indeed happen to some of these older recorders... What happens is this: The small ribbon cable that connects the recording/overwrite head wears out over time and breaks down. Often times this causes corrupt TOC's and the occasional erased disc. It would most likely cost more than the unit is worth if you were to get it repaired, however if you have soldering skills you could try to fix it yourself: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=4712
  23. Alright guys, I'm trying to locate the SDK (if it exists) for Atrac3/Atrac3+... Basically I want to create a foobar input codec for OMA files. Like the Winamp codec. The Winamp Atrac codec works fine for playing my OMA files, but I don't currently have Winamp installed (nor do I want it installed). Anyway I've never done anything like this before, so if anyone that is somewhat familiar with this (MarCnet perhaps? hint hint) wants to help me get started, I would really appreciate it. Even if it is simply pointing me in the direction of learning materials or reference materials. None of my OMA files have DRM, so that should make things a bit easier. I have access to the foobar SDK, but I assume I would need the Atrac SDK... Or perhaps I can somehow use the Winamp codec... ? Thanks guys!
