Error report - An error occurred while transferring
raintheory replied to MusicBringer's topic in Software
Try right-clicking the file after importing and converting to Atrac3 that way... Then try to transfer that. At least that will give us an idea of where to go from here,. -
The newest recorder: The MZ-RH1 -will upload any older discs (assuming they werent created with SonicStage or OpenMG software... so any mic or line recoridngs, etc) faster than realtime via USB, and is the only recorder that will do so. If you're looking for a quick way, this is unfortunately your only option. It is unlikely that SONY will create any future MD recorders.

Interesting... if I attempt to build a DIY controller I may enlist your assistance!!! Heres something cool, the remote control for my MXD-D40 works for the MDS-E12!

Lost recording due to power cut

Yep, see the post in my signature re: TOC cloning. PM me if you need help. EDIT: Sent you a PM re: TOC Cloning info Double EDIT: This is the MZ-N1 and not the MZ-NH1 correct? TOC cloning works for the N1 and those older recordings, but not for Hi-MD audio/... you'll need to contact Sony if it's Hi-MD, they might me able to help.. -
I'm not sure, here are the two pages of the manual devoted to the functionality: The "RS-232C" Connection looks like the Serial connector, and is a "D-Sub 9-Pin Male" connector. I do have a MIDI connector for my E-MU-1616M that would fit the parallel connector (which looks like a female serial connector), as well as some older gameport MIDI connectors that I could try. Would definitely be cool either way. If I get either working I'll definitely add it to your post here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=20544

Well the second of the two decks seems to work fine. A few questions though for those that might be knowledgeable: Aside from the wired (and IR) remotes, and PS2 port for titling, these decks have parallel and serial ports on the back... The manual says what pins to what, but does anyone know of any software I could use (windows and/or mac or linux) to send specific signals via serial or parallel?

Well Iwas checking out the theatre of the school I work at, and they have two(!) MDS-E12 Pro MiniDisc recorders AND NO MINIDISCS or USE FOR THEM...!!! Anyway, I am finding out if I am now the proud owner of two MDS-E12 Pro Decks: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MDS-E12.html If so, they will make a welcome addition to my home studio... I used to have (and sorely miss) the MDS-E10. Anyway, I threw a disc in one of the two decks before leaving today, and it kept giving a read error and spitting it back out. The disc is fine, I'll maybe open it up tomorrow to look inside.. Hopefully the other one (I haven't tried it yet) works better. Wish me luck! I was reading up a bit on these, and if I can get both working I can hook them together in a relay setup..

You'll definitely want to look into the newer Hi-MD recorders... Among other things, you can upload your recordings via USB > PC.
-
I've used it in the past when trying to squeeze a bunch of tracks on a Hi-MD formatted disc... Mainly for travel/driving use, and it was quite good for that, a good middle-ground encoding.
-
You could certainly record from an older player to Hi-MD and then upload that, but it would make more sense to just record straight into the PC instead of going MD > Hi-MD > PC... What you can do is use MarC's Hi-MDRenderer program (specifically the "MD Recorder" functionality) to record the signal. Basically you would hook up your NH1 via USB and 3.5mm jack from NH1 to PC. The playback commands will be sent via USB, but the signal (because it is legacy MD) will be sent via the headphone jack. MarC's program will handle the recording and (I think) even title your files. MarC's program can be found here: http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/ Keep in mind anything you do with these older MDs will be in realtime. If you have a lot of discs, it might be worth your while to (possibly) sell the NH1 and invest in an RH1.

Where are the microphones placed while recording? Can you post a sample so we can hear what you are experiencing? -a

MD saved my day last Sunday: I wanted to take my new ukulele out and about, I knew it would get out of tune so I recorded the four notes on 4 tracks of an MD to keep with me to tune with. Worked great!

See the thread in my signature regarding TOC cloning... Feel free to PM me with any questions. I've recovered numerous discs for people. -a

Welcome to the MiniDisc Community! --- First things first, you will want to use one of the following versions of SonicStage depending on your OS: WinXP: SonicStage 4.2 - http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=17769 Vista: SonicStage 4.3 - http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586 --- 4.3 has been known to cause problems with OS' other than Vista, whereas 4.3 is the only version compatible with vista. As Barock said, you need to choose "SP compatibility Mode" in transfer settings. This will use a "Fake" SP mode which looks like SP to all players (thus will play on any unit), but is technically LP2 quality (132kbps instead of 292kbps). But don't let the numbers fool you, you may or may not notice a difference. Try it and see. This methos usually takes a bit longer to transfer. The only way to get trueSP (292kbps) is to record in realtime using line or optical input on the unit itself. This method would be slower (realtime) Please post back and let us know how it goes! Aaron (raintheory)

You'll most likely want to use SP mode (74/80 min per disc) and manual rec-settings. Beyond that, perhaps someone else can chime in (hint hint).
-
Be sure the deck is compatible with the format you recorded in., Most notably MDLP modes (LP2/LP4). EDIT: you'll also need a soundcard with digital/optical input.

Did that 2nd video say: "It's Windows 95" "It makes a Pentium Fly" and something about a 386 not being fast enough? hehehe

need FAST turnaround on recording results
raintheory replied to tiggerlou's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
There are free services online such as mailbigfile and drop.io that allow you to send large (up to 100MB) files via email. -
Sent him an NH900 charging dock & external battery attachment in exchange for a few blank discs. Perfect transaction! A+! Thanks!

GoldWave & other similar programs will only open the first ~1min or so of the files (if that much, I've tried). You'll need to use either SonicStage or MarC's HiMDRenderer program ( http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=20395 ). SonicStage will convert to WAV, whereas MarC's program offers a variety of formats (WAV, FLAC, MP3, etc). Both options will effectively remove DRM. You shouldn't need SonicStage beyond importing if you use MarC's program (which I would recommend). GoldWave is a great program by the way, I've been using it for years. I was actually rather surprised to see it open an Atrac3+ file at all, but then I realized that the decompression of the Atrac file would break off after the first min or so of audio (MarC ran into this problem creating his program, but worked around it). Let us know how it goes!

See the link regarding removing DRM in my signature...

I haven't used the beta personally. Glad to hear the 0.54 version did what you needed though!
-
You might want to try MarC's HiMDRenderer program: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12683 He first created this program before Sony gave us the ability to convert OMA files. The program has grown significantly, and can convert to various formats (including Mp3). If the v0.54 from the link doesn't do track numbering correctly, search for the 1.00 beta of the same program and see if it fits the bill.
-
See the link in my signature regarding "Removing DRM" ... After you have done so you can copy the audio files (without having to convert to WAV if you don;t want) to any PC and not run into any license issues.

Yep, haha... The one I have is the LG LX150
