Audacity is a great one (I use it on Linux & OSX). GoldWave is good too (I use it on Windows).

Hi, welcome to the forums! What are your system specs? What version of SimpleBurner are you installing? Do you have SonicStage installed? If yes, what version?

You are awesome!

Just noticed that the forum is now lacking (since the upgrade) the link at the top for the main minidisc.org page... so there is no link back to it once yr here in the forums.

Not if you want to preserve the ability to trackmark. The only way to transfer tracks to MD faster than realtime and be able to edit them is via SimpleBurner in NetMD mode (no idea why... but Hi-MD modes dont allow editing), this of course transcodes the tracks to either LP2 or LP4.

Basically... As close as possible at least. Wont be bit-accurate though.

Here is a good place to look: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/...tegory/110/mics They have a good variety and price range. You definitely will want binaural mics so that you have some stereo separation in your recordings.

I use MD because I trust it, and we have been using it for years... I have the first recorder made (MZ-1) and it still works great, almost 15 years later. (Hi)MD has cheap, removable media as well, great for archiving your recordings, much more durable than CDR. Prices are dropping for flash, yes. But get back to me in 15 years with a flash based reorder that still works great and I'll try it out. As far as Hi-MD... Who can say Domain Wall Displacement Detection isn't just amazing in concept and usage.

Well it was a bit too cloudy here on the east coast to see it... Had a good view of Venus, but the coment was behind clouds... Maybe tomorrow morning...

It might be worth trying to check this out and/or take some photographs before it's too late...

There may have been a partial charge from the factory. The manual states that when "Charging" disappears from the display, the unit is 80% charged. Leaving it plugged in for 2 more hours after the display disappears should result in a 100% charge. Are you charging via AC adapter or plugging into a PC?

There are a few threads right now that touch on this. When you upload SP recordings via RH1, you specify whether it is uploaded as Hi-SP or PCM. Personally I have always uploaded these as PCM with no problems. The original 292kbps SP Atrac codec is not in the software. I'm not sure why, but something tells me it has to do with licensing/patents and Dolby: http://www.minidisc.org/minidisc_faq.html#_q47 http://www.minidisc.org/patents/abs/US05394473.html

It may be DRM... Try this first: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16088 And then try to import the resulting OMA files into Vegas.

Yes, the MZ-N710 is a NetMD recorder and you would want to use the same Sonicstage software to transfer the tracks. You should have no problems creating discs with either of those units that will playback in your car, Edit: To be honest, if you wanted True SP quality, you could always record in realtime using the line/optical input on either recorder. SP compatibility via SonicStage would be quicker and easier though.

I use and highly recommend FLAC.

Hi Mike, Welcome to the forums! Short answer to your question... Yes. You will need the latest version of Sony's SonicStage software (currently 4.2.. links are in the forums if you run a search). You will be able to transfer music to standard MiniDiscs in either LP2, LP4 or SP* formats. The MDX-CA580 as far as I know will only handle SP/MONO discs. You can do SP* with SonicStage (see below), but you will only be able to fit 80min on a disc... * SP "compatibility" for older units actually transferrs the song as LP2 quality (~132kbps) but with an SP container. True SP is higher quality (~292kbps) but you are unable to transfer in this "True SP" using SonicStage. Hope this helps some. -Aaron

I know the Atrac3+ codec has had trackmarking problems in the past.. As has been stated, when you upload SP you choose if you want it uploaded as WAV or Hi-SP.. Uploading as Hi-SP uses the Atrac3+ codec which has the possibility of placing trackmarks incorrectly. Upload SP as WAV (better anyway because it isnt transcoding from lossy to lossy) and you should be fine. I've uploaded about 100 SP discs with no issues.

Personally I don't much care for music that is made for the sole purpose of selling records. To me, true "music" is a form of self-expression, an art form. True "music" expresses that which cannot be expressed through any other means. It transcends time and language. Very few musicians (comparatively) tap into this, the rest I don't really care for.

I've repaired 2 MZ-N707's (notorious for losing screws) with eyeglass repair kits. Great suggestion A440

Hi-MD Music Transfer for Mac Ver.2.0 - Help needed!
raintheory replied to bluecaboose's topic in Software
Have you tried different USB ports? -
My fiance and I have close to 15 years worth of recordings (mostly our own music and various jam sessions) in mainly SP format, some LP2. And plenty of Hi-MD material as well. Probably a bit over 500 legacy discs in storage containers, close to 50 Hi-MD (which are recycled for recording and playback), and a handful of MD-DATA discs for our non-functioning multitrack recorders.

How much does it weigh?
