  1. The R700 won't be able to upload to PC via USB, as it is a standard MiniDisc Recorder. If you want to upload to PC, you need at least the MZ-NH700.
  2. Your NH700 is a Hi-MD recorder which uses formats that are not backwards compatible with the Pioneer. If you record onto a Hi-MD disc, or onto a standard MiniDisc in either PCM, Hi-SP or Hi-LP, you will only be able to play those on another Hi-MD unit. You can select "NetMD" mode in SonicStage (or record in SP/LP2/LP4 on the unit itself) and those recordings should play fine on the Pioneer. EDIT: Disregard the LP2/LP4 formats above. The D707 isn't compatible with those LP modes either. You will need to either record in SP using the unit, or SP compatibility mode via SonicStage.
  3. I've bought a few MiniDisc recorders on eBay over the years. Just be sure the seller has good feedback and try to get as much information about the condition of the unit as possible.
  4. Well considering this was the first MD deck, it is highly possible that it is simply not compatible with MONO recordings.
  5. Everything you need to know about getting your recordings from MiniDisc to PC: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070
  6. The main thing (which I can't stress enough to people) is to do your homework and research products before you buy them... Know what you are getting, know what it can do. And if it turns out to be able to do more down the road (transferring mp3 to RH10 via Mac with the new version of the software, for example) that's wonderful, be glad. But don't get frustrated if it doesn't. A good example is my DVD player. It's an older one, and not that great, but i just found out recently (quite by accident) that VCD's would actually play in it. Great! I didn't know that. I tried to play an AVI movie file from a CD and it did nothing, bummer.. But then again, it never said it could play either formats. Sure I might post on the manufacturers site to find if there is some kind of firmware upgrade or something, but I really have no right or reason to press the issue beyond that.. Sorry to go off on a rant here, but I think alot of us here in the forums (myself included) try our best to help out whoever we can. It can be frustrating for us sometimes (hey we don't get paid for this), so don't take it personally. We are only trying to help. EDIT: Also, you have to understand that we get A LOT of questions here that could easily be answered with a quick search in the forums.
  7. Anyone else remember this? http://www.minidisc.org/netmd_petition_support.html I think we played a big part in them allowing Hi-MD>PC transfers when they released Hi-MD.
  8. This is merely a guess, as I am not sure I understand what you are asking... You may need to set the REC Settings / REC Level to "Manual". The "raised and lowered" sounds like a telltale sign of AGC while recording.
  9. Our own forum member Greenmachine does a fantastic job: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=14388 Not sure if he's still making and selling them though, but I highly recommend them if he is!
  10. Analog should be fine, and would just be connecting the headphone out of the N707 to the line-in of the HiMD (not the mic-in). You probably want to use manual rec-levels and set the levels yourself, rather than using the AGC... Any unit that records would in theory be capable of TOC cloning (with the exception of download-only units, and HiMD portables).. Though it could be slightly complicated, and you would run the risk of messing the unit up. If you only have a few discs, analogue would probably be the way to go. If you had a good many (that would take an inordinate amount of time to record in realtime) then modifying a unit to enable TOC cloning would be quicker. There aren't guides around for modifying sony portables, but I may write one up at some point...
  11. Some decks are capable.. Also you can modify some portables as well. I modified my R700 a while ago and it works great. Here's some basic info: http://www.minidisc.org/cloning_procedure.html If you can find a deck that would be the easiest route. Otherwise, if you have a spare portable recorder you feel like tearing apart let me know and I may be able to help guide you through the process.
  12. If you feel adventurous you could always try to modify the N707 to allow TOC Cloning (I did this with my R700), and then clone the TOC from a non-NetMD disc to the NetMD disc. You could then upload it just fine using the RH1.
  13. The only options would be: 1 - Using an MDLP Deck that has Digital Out... 2 - Using TOC cloning to clone the TOC from a Non-NetMD disc to the NetMD disc, then uploading with the RH1.
  14. Well it seems the southern hemisphere is getting quite a show... Much more than we northerners had:
  15. Were you able to record with the unit?
  16. I've never used SimplerMD myself, but I do know that you can accomplish exactly what it does simply by creating an audio CD image in Nero, mounting it using Nero Imagedrive, and selecting that drive letter in SimpleBurner's options. I can try to explain this process in more detail if you would like. I also believe that if you use SimpleBurner to transfer the files to MD, you can erase/edit these files (unlike when you transfer via SonicStage).
  17. If you get the newest unit (MZ-RH1) you can upload all of those older discs via USB... Much faster than realtime. Have a look around here in the forums for info on it. How many recordings do you have? Perhaps you can find someone here that would be willing to help you get those recordings from the discs to CD (using their MZ-RH1). EDIT: A440 your a quick one..
  18. Well for starters, here is a link to the manual: http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/sony_mzr37_manual.pdf
  19. I wrote a bit about this, under Ubuntu Linux: You have to use VMWare Server (not VMWare Player) in order to have USB support, AFAIK. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16688
  20. What I have done with recordings that wont transfer via SonicStage is use Nero to burn an image file of an audio CD, and then use SimpleBurner to transfer the image file (faster than realtime) to minidisc. Then you can delete the image file, no CD burned.
  21. Most likely you are experiencing an incompatibility with the (outdated) OpenMG software. I would recommend uninstalling OpenMG and installing SonicStage (currently version 4.2) - http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586 I believe SimpleBurner shares components with SonicStage, which may be why you are experiencing the error. Also, SonicStage has the ablility to import CDs as well, in a variety of formats.
  22. The only limitation that exists for uploading your legacy discs is regarding how they were recorded... You aren't able to upload discs that were recorded via an older Version of SonicStage/OpenMG/Real.. Anything else (including pre-recorded discs) can be uploaded with the RH1.
