  1. Welcome to the forums Donny, If you want the ability to upload your N707 recordings, you will need the MZ-RH1/MZ-M200. This is the only model that will upload your older recordings. If you simply want to be able to upload your recordings from here on out, any Hi-MD recorder will do, check out the equipment browser here: http://www.minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html
  2. Search the forums for TOC Cloning. Basically you need a deck that is capable, or be willing to possibly break your unit to enable TOC cloning with your portable. PM me if you need more info, I'm pretty experienced with TOC cloning.
  3. If all else fails you can use MarC's Hi-MDRenderer Program: http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/ I use it almost exclusively, and I've never had problems with it. Can't say the same for sonys WAV conversion.
  4. This happened to one of my MZ-N707's not that long ago. I actually took the unit apart and physically removed the recording head. I use the unit as a player only now and it works just fine.
  5. Under options, go to transfer and select Hi-MD, now check under advanced... there at the bottom uncheck "convert to WAV when importing".
  6. With that remote, if you have the unit it REC-PAUSE you can see the record levels and set the recording level.
  7. Are you transferring the tracks "As-Is" (Standard Transfer Mode)? EDIT: Also, are you transferring in NetMD or Hi-MD disc format?
  8. Are you using any windows skinning software (i.e. WindowBlinds, etc.)?
  9. If your discs are becoming unusable after 10 times, I would be wary of something inside the unit scratching the surface of the disc during recording.
  10. I just installed SonicStage 4.3 on Win98SE. The installer installed all of the additional components automatically (DirectX, MDAC, Windows Media, etc.) Works fine so far, just uploaded two Hi-SP recordings and removed DRM with no problems. Runs a bit slow though on a Pentium (just plain Pentium that is) with 40MB RAM... Don't ask.
  11. Well, as I have stated before... I have been using MiniDisc for over 10 years. Flash-based recorders are relatively new, so I wouldn't trust them as much as I trust a tried and true technology. Just my opinion though.
  12. As long as the files were recorded in Hi-MD mode, yes. You will need to use Sony's SonicStage software: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586
  13. I've been using the beta version of Audacity for quite some time (on WinXP and Ubuntu Linux) with no problems.
  14. When recording via the line-in, when the sound drops below a certain level for more than a second or two, a trackmark is automatically created. Unfortunately there is no way around this. However, you can easily remove the trackmarks from the recording prior to uploading. Simply move to each trackmark (with the unit in pause) and press T MARK. Alternately, you can combine the tracks in SonicStage after uploading the recording, but prior to converting to WAV (highlight the tracks, then choose the feature under the edit menu, just be sure you have the feature "Automatically convert to WAV" disabled). Hope this helps,
  15. The PC-Link was different than NetMD units. It records in realtime through the optical input. The device connects via USB and you plug your optical cable into it. In reality it will work with any unit that has an optical-in. Not NetMD though, since the MiniDisc unit itself doesnt have a USB plug.
  16. What MiniDisc unit are you using? Only Hi-MD Models can upload to PC via USB.
  17. Unfortunately, the RH1 wont allow uploads from legacy discs made with OpenMG/SonicStage. However... If you have access to a Deck with TOC Cloning capabilities, you can simply clone a TOC from a disc recorded via Mic/Line-In (same format as your disc, but recorded for the total amount of time your disc is), then you will have no problems uploading the material. You will however need to go back and add trackmarks to the disc after doing this, if need be. TOC Cloning Info: http://www.minidisc.org/cloning_procedure.html
  18. I checked 3 (three) stores today, and found no trace of MD. Still can possibly check 2 more tomorrow... EDIT: They weren't actually near the sunblock, were they?
  19. this program is essentially obsolete when using a Hi-MD... You can just upload via SonicStage.
  20. You are able to set up Sonicstage so that it deletes these OMA files after transferring them to MiniDisc (it's in the options somewhere, probably under transfer settings). The only downside to doing this is that if you want to download the same track to MiniDisc again it will take time because SonicStage needs to convert the file again prior to transferring. EDIT: Just to help clarify, the OMA file is an ATRAC3 file (similar to Mp3, but MiniDisc uses ATRAC3) which is the only type of file NetMD units can read. When you transfer an Mp3 file to your N707, SonicStage converts the file to ATRAC3 (OMA file extension) in order to transfer to the MiniDisc. The only reason to have these files after transferring is to save time if you transfer the same track again (since Sonicstage doesn't have to convert the Mp3 file again).
  21. My claim to fame was being the first person in North America to receive the unit (at least here in the forums).
  22. The MZ-RH1 is currently the only Hi-MD recorder that will transfer these older recordings to your PC. However, bear in mind that it will not transfer recordings that were made with a previous version of SonicStage or OpenMG. Only recordings made in realtime via Line-In or Microphone can be uploaded.
  23. Personally I would like to see a frequency analysis of the same SP recording imported as Hi-SP and as PCM. Sadly it wouldn't surprise me one bit (and I wouldn't put it past SONY and/or SonicStage) if the SP recordings are imported as Hi-SP regardless of the setting, and only converted to PCM after uploading if that setting was chosen.
