Install the latest updates for your OS AND Direct X 9. Then install SS 3. Then reboot, then try connecting your MD.
-
^^ Sorry if I sound like I'm defending Sony and their retrograde policies. But have you thought of making a copy of your to-be-imported file, and transferring it to MD? That way your hash checks on the original don't get messed up. I doubt that SS will alter the original in any way. Maybe changing the properties to 'Read only' could do the trick? I think that the only thing that SS does look at is the filename in the original track, and that's the reason why this happens.

Erm. Have you seen my thread? I know the NHF 800 has USB, but it also has analog/optical and Mic input. And can record in ALL the flavors of Minidisc. And it comes bundled with an E -35 player that works like a charm. Interested? http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9581 (Hope this is not spamming, mods. If it is, let me know and I'll remove the post.)

I can confirm that you can Rip/import a CD on Wav format into SS. Either it's a mistranslation, or it means you just can't rip it into OMG-encrypted Wav format. (This is done realtime during transfer, IIRC.)

I had a head misalignment problem on my dear SR-60 a few months ago. By entering service mode (Not recommended if you don't know what you're doing) I was able to have the system autocalibrate the head and that did it. Perhaps you are having a similar problem? My player would read intermitently too.

Pardon me if I sound snobbish, but why use a product that is known to give you problems, when there are better and safer alternatives out there? Give JetAudio, Musicmatch, or even Winamp a go.
-
May I suggest JetAudio, a free player, encoder, and ripper (You have to pay if you want MP3 support, though) that can convert any uploaded wav file to any flavor of SPEEX, APE, FLAC, OptimFrog, WMA lossless and some others? I have to do it this way after uploading my wav files from MD, since I can control the compression ratio when using FLAC. (Not knocking Hi-MD Renderer, Marc, I just want more control over my FLAC files.) I'm not sure if this is a good option for others here, but: 1: Uploading my recordings through SS (Hi-Sp and PCM), 2: Running Hi-MD Renderer to remove the DRM stuff on wav or encode with Lame-MP3, 3: Converting to WMA lossless or FLAC with Jet Audio, and 4: Removing the OMA files after converting them with Marc's utility Enables me to enjoy my music the way I want it, when I want it, where I want it. (Yeah, there's re-importing my Wav's into SS if needed, but there are no restrictions nor "Optimized Files" eating up HDD space)

Ok. I got myself a replacement set of these things. I had a pair of EX70's that I ordered off minidisco.com back when they first came out. Imported straight from Japan. I loved them. They sealed off the external noise, had wonderful bass, etc. Until my stupid brother crushed them with the glove compartment box. ($#@*! ) One of the first things I noticed was that the bass seemed to be muffled on the right channel. I even made mono recordings of orchestral tracks just to make sure, and sometimes it seemed it was muffled, sometimes it didn't. (No it's not clogged or dirty. I made sure of that) I thought it was just one of my ears giving me trouble since I had a kid drop a firecracker 3 feet away from me and setting it off. It gave me horrible tinnitus and an earwax clog for about 2 months. Hasn't come back, thank God. But I switched the position of the earphones today, and YES, the right channel is muffled. For real. How or why? I recall reading about some people experiencing their right earphone going mute after a while. It seems that my phones didn't get broken in properly. So as not to make this a waste of webspace, I ask if anybody has experienced this? I'm kinda sick of having to pull out the left one out of my ear a little so as to balance out the sound. This happened with a previous pair of the same model, and I don't have problems hearing people with my right ear. I guess I should have gone for the Etymotic 6RP or whatever they are. *sigh*

Remote for MZ-NHF800: Comparison RM-MC39LT vs RM-MC34LT
Syrius replied to jeffmccann's topic in Minidisc
I think the RM-MC39LT is backlit. Not sure, though. -
What format are the files you are trying to transfer? Bitrate, and encoder? If they are Variable Bitrate MP3, you may want to try converting them to CBR, or WAV, and then delete once imported.
-
Marc, you may want to know that any audio CD I put together using the FLAC files from HiMDRenderer and Nero with the FLAC plugin come off as silence, but are perfectly playable on JetAudio. Not a problem, since I can simply convert to WAV and then use JetAudio to compress to FLAC, but I thought I should let you know. Thanks.

You may want to know, I just got a text message on my cell informing that hell has frozen over. Sony and Apple, in harmony?

Ok. I have decided to make space and get some money for one of the sweet new Hi-MD units with MP3 compatibility. Here you see an MZ-NH800, unit only (That's why the incredibly low price). It has some very minor scratches on the screen and battery cover, but looks in very good condition and works perfectly as I have tested it thoroughly. Mic input, line and optical input. Sorry, don't have the remote, but you can find them cheap on Ebay for around 30 bucks or so. Works like a charm and has given me no problems when using SonicStage 3. Also, a complete and almost-mint MZ-E35. This unit has been well taken care of and only the "Sony" and "MD Walkman" logos have lost their luster. Otherwise, impeccable. Remote is not backlit, sorry. Includes the default earphones Sony shipped them with, Screw-on AA battery case, Gumstick charger, felt pouch, box, and manual. I'll throw in your choice of 4 blanks or discs which were already recorded in either Fake SP or Hi-SP (all are 74-min MDs). Fake SP sounds surprisingly well if it comes from a high-quality source, so you have the chance of making mixes for your kid, wife, or rommate and have them listen to that music on the E-35 player, while you enjoy the wonderful world of Hi-MD. Rremember that the Hi-MD can record in WAV/PCM, Hi-SP, Hi-LP, True SP, LP2, LP4, Mono, and Fake SP when using the USB cord and SonicStage. The E-35 will only play True SP or Fake SP music. And with the new SonicStage 3 and Simple Burner 2 hosted over here in the forum, you're all set to go. Sonicstage hasn't given me any problems either with upload or download, and with Marc's wonderful Hi-MDRenderer, there's no worrying about SonicStage's unfair restrictions on your uploaded music. Great double gift for yourself and someone in your household. 160 US Dollars plus the always-reasonable Fedex shipping will make this yours. Sorry. Can't break it down, as I MUST clear these units and get the dough for a newer Hi-MD. For six extra dollars I'll send you the USB cord for the Hi-MD, and a brand new Original NH-14WMA Gumstick for the E-35. (only used once to test the charger and player). Shipping through Fedex, insured, based on your Zip code. Will ship to Canada, but may be slightly higher. Will accept Paypal but only if it's funded by existing balance or checking account. If your debit card is treated as credit card, I'll have to return your payment, or you need to add balance to your PP account, and then forward it to me. NO CREDIT CARDS WITH PAYPAL. SORRY. Money order is gladly accepted. Check my profile on Ebay by the name of AuricomResearch, with 100% good feedback. What you get quoted for shipping is what you pay, and not a single cent more. I won't tack-on an extra amount to your shipping costs! PM if interested. Warning to 56K: the picture is about 350K in size.

Since you mention "Quid" I assume you are in the UK. Make a note of what the voltage requirements are, take it to a store (Maplin?) show them the jack in the unit, and they should be able to find a generic AC adapter that will work with it. Just make sure not to exceed 1000 MA. Seldom will a MD unit require that much current.

Keep in mind any music file you transfer to your PC can be converted from any flavor of OMA into WAV, FLAC, MP3 LAME, or OGG using Marcnet's Hi-MDRenderer. Then you can archive that file as raw data on a MD using simple drag and drop, burn it to CD, upload it to a server or even your own webmail account (Hello Hotmail with 250 MB of storage.) Then you can import that file as many times as you want into Sonicstage, and do unlimited checkouts. Think of Marc's utility as the Red Pill that will free us from the control of the SonicMatrix. I must note, that I have had two upload errors on a MD due to dirty or faulty discs, BUT Sonicstage didn't erase such files and kept on uploading the ones behind that. Any file that didn't get uploaded wasn't flagged nor erased from the disc. The ones that uploaded successfully and got flagged didn't get deleted due to the error caused by the faulty one. It seems to me that Sony finally got it right with SS 3. (And if you are reading this, Sony, remember: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. )

Lew, any MDLP unit will record in real SP *IF* you do it through the inputs, and NOT the USB. Honest, man. False SP is only achieved through the USB port and SonicStage. As much as I'm willing to sell you the R-37, you'll be throwing money away if your MDLP machine can record through the input. Are you sure? What's the model of your MDLP Unit?
-
I have an R-37 in more or less good condition. Interested? I just hope the price is ok.
-
Or even the free version of Musicmatch Jukebox will convert Wav to MP3 and vice versa. go to www.oldversion.com and download ver 7.5 And it's pretty easy to use.
-
That's right. The PS2 automatically adds SCMS if it detects a PS1 or PS2 game in the drive, even through the browser. CD's don't generate SCMS, AFAIK.
-
IIRC, this medium does not spin. Rather, it's the head the one moving all across the surface of the medium. And from my point of view, this means that these things are going to be prone to calibration errors, and breakage. I doubt this will have much impact with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD in the horizon.
-
Because it's already too crowded in there?
-
Or burn the music on your Mac to an audio CD, and use a windows computer to transfer that music using Simple Burner.
-
When not using my MD, I carve on my skin the logos of MD, Sony, JVC, Aiwa and Sharp using rusty blades, and then I submerge myself in a tub full of alcohol so I can suffer for their sins. (And by the way, I have this great bridge in San Francisco I can sell you, cheap.)

Hi. I have been trying to fiddle with it, but no luck yet. Is there a way to make Total Recorder insert a pause, or start another file when you're recording something and it goes silent for a few seconds? You know, just like how minidisc makes a new track when it detects silence for 2 seconds on the music stream? Thanks.

I posted something like this some time ago. I hope my advice is helpful: http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1152714 This one with the rounded "Walkman" lettering on the carton, is original. From Japan. The others, even though they tout the stamina logo, and the Sony name with some Japanese characters, are fake if they have the new "angular" Walkman on the package, even if they have kanji on them. (sorry, couldn't find an auction with those pics). I hate to say this, but I doubt you will get original Sony batteries out of Taiwan, or Hong Kong. (Correct me if I'm wrong) You can get other original brands of batteries around, though. Just search for "gumstick battery" or "minidisc battery". I heard the GP-brand ones are good.
