Suse is somewhat slow. I tried 9.1 and it was almost unusable on my pentium 3 eventhough it uses kde. Ubuntu is really nice but unfortunately it only ships with gnome which is also far too slow to be of any benefit on my computer.

Ubuntu can do stuff like this completely automatically.

You don't need an operating system which supports usb to boot from usb. It is enough that your bios supports booting from usb. On the other hand, it is pretty hard to create a bootable usb memory if your os doesn't support usb. :grin:

A 15 kHz lowpass sounds pretty normal. It is likely that analog transfer adds noise etc. to your recordings and thus produces content to upper frequencies.

De you really claim that you can't hear difference between original and hi-lp compressed file?

I remember that somebody claimed having installed OsX onto his/her md and having booted his mac using it. No device drivers are required on any platform because hi-md appears as standard mass storage device like memory cards and usb memories.

USB2 doesn't help you because hi-md only supports usb1. And another thing. Xvid gives you better quality that divx at the same bitrate or similar quality at a lower bitrate so I would use xvid instead of divx. Also I would recommend you to use autogk to automate the process.

My nh900 was in a black box but box doesn't mean anything because even the model mz-nh600 is in a black box here.
