Now that is a competent journalist. I agree with his last statment "If it was up to me, we'd all be using MiniDisc and to hell with the iPod. Here's to the MiniDisc revival". So according to Mr. Ayres (the brain dead one from Times) I should go buy yet another disappointing mp3 player that would be light years ahead of my RH1? [sarcasm]I would surely get much better SQ through highly compressed lossy files being pushed out of those highly expensive $2 earbuds (which they have thought of including)... since mp3 players are superior to my MD. Listening to a mp3 player would surely sound better because of their lack of a HD Digital amp which unfortunately my MD unit includes. I also wouldn't have to suffer the gapless playback that my MD unit offers because mp3 players can't support gapless. And through speakers mp3 players have blessed me with the simplicity of only headphone out and no line-out because they thought I wouldn't need it. And to record with my newly bought mp3 player all I need to do is conveniently add on a clunky attachment, where as my troublesome RH1 already has recording capabilities built-in. To save the trouble of swapping MD discs mp3 players have once again blessed me by doing away with removable media and have strapped me to the limited memory that it offers. And being made out of plastic they have saved me weight, where my all metal RH1 is going to weigh me down.[/sarcasm] Maybe that was unnecessary, but I couldn't resist to flame an idiotic journalist who has no freakin' idea what he is talking about. I hope his paper weight iPod dies on him.

Not only deleting future transfer files is possible, but also previously transferred ones. Go to Tools, Options and then choose Advanced Settings on the left then there should be a Delete button to the right. This would delete files currently on your harddrive. Although this does not work for songs imported from CDs.

Removing scratches from LCD screens? [i.e. remotes, etc]
Sparda replied to Christopher's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
For scratches you get on your watch my friend takes an eraser and starts erasing away. Although I haven't tried it myself it works for him. Might also work for light scratches on lcds. P.S. Use a soft eraser, like the gummy ones, don't try it with another type. -
I don't recall saying they are the same technology or implying it. But whatever it takes, as long as everything is the same or at least better with the increased capacity.

No sadly there is no magic key or option, you have to set each hex to the proper number. The sequence I talk about is the sequence used to get into service mode in the first place. For first gen the sequence is here, which I haven't tried with my RH1 and shouldn't work anyways. Don't tell me you were mashing buttons and got into service mode by accident?

Wow, what is with the price? And although I don't record those mics look very crappy to me, wouldn't get good recordings even at optimal placement.

Off topic but I wonder if Borat registered first or the movie came out first. Makes you think about it, hmm... Anyways, why MD? Everything, from the awesome SQ to editing and playback options. I just can't stand the sound of anything else, I just can't see how most big companies can have the heart to market that crap (crap as in mp3 players). Making people spend their hard earned money on what is mediocre at best. I have owned several mp3 players and listened to various iPods and just can't stand the sound, it is so flat and dull, there is no life to it. So I finally had enough with bad SQ and reminded myself of my first MD the N510, and how impressed I was with it. Then I finally bought the RH1 after being disappointed with the RH10 (for the NH1 it was too hard for me to get, wasn't really available, and I knew that it was missing something). So to this day I still love my RH1, and will never bow down to iPods. P.S. I always had a thing for MDs even before I considered a mp3 or MD player I knew that MD had a place in my heart. Also don't they look so cool?

Ok, ignore everything I've previously said. IIRC 132kbps is LP2 which means your unit needs to be in MD mode instead of Hi-MD mode. So I guess if you change it to MD mode it should transfer the files with out converting. If I'm still wrong then I don't know what else to say.

What is the sequence for service mode on the RH1? Post it here and I'll see what I can do.

Didn't Sony also spend millions upon millions developing Betamax and UMD which both failed horribly? Both have just been left in the dust. Not that I'm against the idea of Blu-Ray in MD (I've actually asked for it before) but we can't assume so soon that the next gen will already follow up on Blu-Ray. And maybe Blu-Ray wouldn't fail as bad as some people think, I guess time will tell. Of course unless I have misinterpreted your meaning.

Evanescence, I shudder every time I hear or think about it.

Looks ok to me but I would go for genuine Sony branded ones or GP cells. Here is a link to the GP branded ones.

I think to find out for sure try what greenmachine had suggested. And how is the SQ of the 7xx series compared to Hi-MD at the same bitrate in general? I have been considering about getting it. The color OLED appeals very much to me, as I think OLED looks awesome and of course the player itself.
-
Oh, that indicator, I was thinking too deep
-
It is because the MZ-M100 doesn't play those bitrates for mp3. Check your manual, it should state the proper bitrates. Those bitrates are allowed to be imported is because you can play them back on your computer.

What is this indicator that you mention for Li-Ion batteries? Is it like built into the battery? I was told by this sales person and also someone who happens to be my friend that I have to charge Li-Ions for a whole night and I thought, doesn't that not apply to Li-Ion? And I just dismissed it as a myth for Li-Ion batteries. So far the battery life of my lip-4wm is normal, although I have to say the normal runtime is too short...

The USB to Mini-B cable is very common. You can walk into BestBuy or the equivalent and get the cable there. Any generic USB to Mini-B cable should work just fine. P.S. Many cameras uses this cable, maybe you already have one?

I've said it before and I'll say it again! Gimme a Blu-ray Hi-MD!!! Of course offering relative physical size and battery life or more. Or just make 2GB+ discs.

Entering Service Mode On A Hi-MD Player
Sparda replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
I wonder if you could just reprogram the firmware or make your own, providing you know how and have the resources. Most likely you can then have different frequencies for the equalizer, perhaps not just 6 frequencies? I'm sure it can be done just need the will and manpower. You could change everything. Sort of like how there are homebrew programs for PSP, well in that sense at least. -
Lol, I've noticed that with my too, I thought it was just me, but it didn't bother me too much.
-
You know how people say, or at least people around me, that the first time it's charged you charge it for a whole night? Is that like a myth or does it only apply to like Ni-Mh and Ni-Cd batteries? Sorry back on topic, my LIP-4WM came pre-charged about halve way as expected.

So all those boxes strapped to iPods are for the purpose of line-out? And then they must get those $120 cables just because it has cotton... I really don't see the point, somebody show them MD please, its just sad, seems so redundant to me. Ha, feel like posting my rig even though my headphones aren't very good, at least my DAP is. Edit: I would love to register at Head-Fi just for that one reason. Edit 2: Yes I am very bored as you can tell... Ahem, so does all that effort they put in make it sound any better, anybody would have an idea how it sounds compared to Hi-MD? I mean if they go through all that for nothing then really, what are they thinking?

Regarding the RH1 (and I'm sure the others too), the seek times are almost non-existent it is deadly fast. Groups/Folders can be substituted as playlists. You could also bookmark songs to make a playlist. And for the order of the songs are played, as far as I am concerned they play in the order you transfer them in. Play by Artist and other modes do exist, but I wouldn't know anything about them as I don't use them. What I like to do is put one album as a group and for songs by various artists that I have hand picked I put them together with others or (rarely) I just put them all by itself in one group.

I wonder who is member number 50,000. Lucky fellow. Anyways nice to see so many people registered to MDCF.
