Lol, I know what you mean. I think the N1 was made in Japan but had serious issues with the ribbon cable. Oh, back to topic, I think the high price is because it is now rare and it's the flagship model for the first generation for Hi-MD, it means something. Also it looks sleek and everyone loves it.

I'm a bit pissed of right now. About 2 weeks ago my cell phone died on me for no apparent reason. So I guess, mehh electronics age too. So then I got my sister's previous cell as a replacement. Now today the replacement has died too. And by dead, I mean that it becomes unresponsive and shows a blank screen or just doesn't respond at all. I've tried taking out the battery, turning it off then on, reinserted the sim card... nothing works. I'm starting to think that the SIM card is the source of the problem. Maybe it is defective, thus destroying the phone's electronics. And I treat it very well, never dropped it or even scratch it. Can anybody tell me whats going on?

Karl Myer, I have to agree with you. I mean before iPod was introduced you would hardly see anyone listen to music in public. And now all of a sudden people are in love with music and have the need to listen to music where ever, when ever. I guess you could say that before the iPod boom there was no practical solution to bring your music with you. CD players were chunky, skipped, and mostly expensive. And you could only bring a disc or two with you. But truthfully told I think some people just do it for show.

Lol, I forgot where I heard this but someone said that iPod owners spend more time searching for songs then they do listening to them. So I thought about it, and really I realized some really do.

Ahh, I forgot to thank you for the explanation greenmachine

Listening to my MDs bring joy to me, noise free, high fidelity music, you feel like you're a part of it. I am really sickened with the crap other DAPs crank out.

He has tried other ones before.

People who pass you only to stop or walk slower than you. I mean what is the point!?!?

So is this like a DIY project? Goodjob.
-
Yeah I agree, is there anyway that we can transfer files on linux based systems? Because Windows is no longer willing to cooperate with me.
-
Borat, I don't know about you, but my batteries last longer when I use 1GB discs, because it is being accessed less often and spins at a lower rpm. So I try to use my 1GB discs as much as possible. lol, pata

(Let me steal this thread for a sec) So does it keep playing the current song while you search for another folder or song? I sometimes like to plan ahead and search for the next song I want to hear while listening to the current one. Right now I can do this with the 38el via Playmode > Group>[songTitle]. I've always been wanting to get the 40elk but still haven't.

It's all digital, 1s and 0s. Like said by ZosolV, it's either on or off there is no inbetween. SQ should be the same at same bitrate.

Also make sure that the tab is in the write/unlocked position

Ding! Ding! Ding! Finally someone got it right, I was about to go nuts. Btw, fayefaye I think you would want quickmode to be off.
-
It is totally normal, have you also noticed that it spins much faster when in Net-MD mode?
-
A lot of MDCF members have bought 35ELKs from eBay and they all worked. Perhaps get a friend with a credit card?

Sony already gave up on competing with mp3 players, because they failed miserably. Hi-MD is now marketed towards the "Recording Professional".

What's next? It runs on tap water? Now imagine that...

Here's your 5min mockup. (Yes, I know it's blurry) Now for pink

What a cruel joke...

Lol, two years is about right for an iPod. Too many iPods have died near the two year mark, that's one reason why I never ever even bother considering about one, no matter what it does. I'm sure you will appreciate the improved SQ Hi-MD offers over an iPod.
-
This would be cool but I don't see it ever happening. Instead I see either MD eventually dies or gets an overhaul and comes up with a new format ditching Hi-MD. Edit: I think I should rephrase. What I meant was it would still be like MD but based on newer updated technology and thus current Hi-MD tech wouldn't be used anymore.

Lol, would this work with an external HDD? You could have crap loads of music in your car.
-
Don't we already have lossless compressed solutions? Take FLAC for example.
