What is the big fuss... You now know that this Dynamic Normalizer can be turned off, get going and buy it already. And to tell you the truth adding the remote to the link doesn't degrade the sound quality to a noticeable point, if any. The output is analogue anyways it is inevitable for there to be some slight degradation of the SQ.

IIRC a G5 isn't too new is it? So that would make it PowerPC based processor. I don't know maybe it is worth it to get a whole other computer for the purposes of running Windows programs. Might come in handy in the future. Have you considered the flash based alternatives?

Sorry for your loss, but that might just make your MD more valuable to you. It is now unique to you, if that makes sense. Not just another RH1. Although I must say, personally I wouldn't want that to happen to me too.
-
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet or not, but recently I keep getting these error pages for no apparent reason. And although it doesn't happen all the time it is more frequent then wanted. Just thought I might point it out, I still like the new look, it's more clean.

You have no reason to worry. The Dynamic Normalizer is just only one of the options in the sound menu. You can use Normal, EQ, the VPT engine or of course the Dynamic Normalizer. I like to keep the EQ on, at a custom setting.

1.) This is the wrong section to post in 2.) Your first post in a Minidisc community is about your Rio?!? 3.) This is not a "Computer Technical Support" forum 4.) Look else where, cause it isn't here

The M series and the RH1 (I'm pretty sure) supports Mac. The emulator you mentioned may also work.

Hi-SP albeit a lower bitrate sounds better than or equal to SP, due to more efficient compression. So theres another reason to use Hi-MD mode.

This might help. Link

You don't need the slip case, although do note that your MDs will have minor scuffs, but who cares. The important thing is that the disc itself does not scratch.

I highly doubt that it can be enabled by just changing a value. It must be manually programmed in, which is hard to do if you don't know what you are doing. And it's not like the firmware will allow scripting.
-
But that only applies to Net-MD bitrates why wouldn't you instead use Hi-MD bitrates such as Hi-SP or maybe 352kbps.

Does anybody know how long the G-Protection lasts for? Is it different on all units or the same. For the N910 it states that it lasts for 200 seconds but I think it lasts for a shorter time on my RH1. Because on some occasions I have experienced skipping. I suppose it could be that I shook it while it was reading so it couldn't load into the memory buffer and so it skipped? Just wonder why it skipped in such a short time period.

Hmm, I wouldn't go repair it. It is not worth it. Rather you could get a different Hi-MD.

Friend has the R909 and it is beautiful. Made me think why RH1 doesn't have the same dimensions. I prefer the thicker look than wide and slim. I would go with the N10 or better yet the N910 because they are newer and are net-md.

HOWTO: S/PDIF Digital Output for MiniDisc Portables...
Sparda replied to raintheory's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Very technical! I doubt it is worth it to go through all that. What is wrong with analogue... -
Got a new monitor so I don't have to squint anymore. Samsung 225BW I admit it's not the best in the world but really it is good enough. The colours this monitor displays are beautiful. Highly recommended.

And that is where the extension cords come in.

Uploading Files Recorded on other Non-HI-MD recorders
Sparda replied to hamoperator's topic in Minidisc
IIRC the M100 is the same as the RH10 but comes with mac software and a mic. Who knows why only the RH1 uploads standard MDs. If you think uploading realtime via analogue is ok, and the price is really attractive for the M100, then go for it. You can always get the RH1 in the future. But if you don't want to spend more money then I suggest getting the RH1 for its uploading capabilities. -
Futureshop, Bestbuy, A&B Sound, and the Sony Store all still have some stock left here in Canada. I know that the Sony Store restocks their shelves with more blanks from time to time. It seems like we still don't have to worry about blanks disappearing here.

Yikes. I wasn't being very serious in my previous post and that was how it was meant to be interpreted. With respect I was really only referring to the RH1 and other units with similar capabilities. And yes I do realize that the stock buds probably sound just as bad or worse then generic earbuds included with almost anything. That is why I threw them in the drawer after a few weeks. The new cans I've gotten are very enjoyable. And well I guess I really shouldn't have posted the previous post in the first place... I do now realize how idiotic my own previous post sounded. Hope I didn't offend anyone. Edit: P.S. read this article for laughs: 5 reasons not to use Linux

I guess it is because I now encode everything to Hi-SP. Lets me put more music on one disc. And when it comes down to SQ I just think to myself that even at lower bitrates the RH1 will sound better then anything else (at least portable). I notice the difference between various bitrates, but it is barely noticeable unless you look for it. I think for that small SQ gain the trade off is quite big (256kbps vs 352kbps). When I really want to enjoy an album I have, I either encode it at 352kbps or transfer at PCM and dedicate a MD for that single album. All in all I'm very glad with my purchase of the RH1, worth every single penny. I hope everyone else enjoys their MD unit as much as I do.

It really makes you appreciate the sound quality of what Hi-MD offers when you go back and compare it to mp3 players. Today I really didn't want to bring my RH1 to the exams, so instead I brought my throw-it-around Creative MuVo Slim. And just hours before the exam studying in the library I was simultaneously listening to it. What I had noticed was this distinct hiss that it had, and no way was it subtle, it was very noticeable. I guess they incorporate a noisy analogue amp into it. And funny thing is that it was encoded at 320kbps mp3 which isn't that bad IMO, but I couldn't hear the upper range that I could with the RH1, it sounded very flat and dull, there was no life in the music. Where as for the RH1 it takes the 320kbps mp3 source and encodes it once more to Hi-SP which obviously would have degradation, but yet it sounds superior to my Creative. With the RH1 I could hear both the lower and upper range of the music, and it would sound very lively. Just goes to show how much better Hi-MDs sound vs mp3 player/iPods etc. Anyways thats my report of the day.

Sounds awesome, I didn't actually expect to hear that it sounds good, but I guess I better believe it. I would really buy one if only it wasn't so expensive here in Canada.

I don't think it is possible without utilizing some sort of "custom" firmware. I really wonder why nobody has bothered to really hack MD players. Perhaps it is harder then I think it is? But even so look at the PSP...
