SonicStage 4.3 Arrives, Features Vista Compatibility
Sparky191 replied to Christopher's topic in News
Personally I won't be going to Vista till I need to. At the moment theres nothing I need in it. Ditto SS 4.3. For me SS4.2 works quite nicely. -
He already has them recorded in HiSP?

DVD isn't a great medium for long term backup. Basically they fade over time. As they are cheap you might aswell do it anyway. But I would recommend ALSO keeping your files on two hard disks. Keep one on the computer, perhaps as a 2nd drive or connected externally. And a another hard drive in a external box which you keep in another location, garage, firebox whereever. I also use the scenerio of fire or a robbery, to make people think about how secure their backup if some one stole the computer and all the gear around it. Or a fire even localised to a room or two at home. I assume you keep the tapes as a back up aswell.

Well I think you'll always be able to find a ATRAC convertor if nothing else. However I would say a lossless format like FLAC or a compressed format like MP3 is likely to be around for quite a while.

Was the idea was to get digital copies of NetMD tracks of something?
-
Whats the point of this?

You know more about this stuff than I do 1kyle. But I'd assume that you'd need a very specific control interface between the MD changer and the head unit. That wouldn't exist with a standard USB port. Of course its technically possible to do it, (ala SS and HiMD) but realistically its unlike Sony have. If they had they'd be making a song and dance about the feature. IMO BTW assuming you have an ATRAC library (which I don't) how do you use SS to put ATRAC tracks on a USB stick? Maybe you can drag and drop from SS to an explorer window? or would you just use explorer only?

Free del in UK only. But otherwise a useful find thanks!

HiMD's aren't UMS compliant. So music you can play on your HiMD, won't be seen on the Car unit. Music you can see on the car unit can't be played by the HiMD unit. I guess you could keep a HiMD disc as a data disk and use that. Arguably it would almost be cheaper and neater to buy a 1GB/2GB flash stick. However I could stick my USB Samsung MP3 stick into and it would work perfectly. So thanks for the link.

Why minidisc use is prohibitied during take off/landing?
Sparky191 replied to riotshield's topic in The Loft
I don't think there's any proof of interference its a "just in case" scenario. -
A brute force method would be to have two different SS folders on the PC. SS1 & SS2. When you open SS clear the library if its not yours and then reimport the correct directory. 3) Del SonicStage library (but don't delete tracks from HD when prompted). 4) Drag and Drop SonicStage dir on destination PC into SonicStage window. 5) Select All Tracks and mark them all as Compilation 6) Switch back to Album mode. This is a variation on this thread... http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16048&hl= Perhaps there's a more elegant way. This way is slow though if you've a lot of tracks to import. I don't how this would work with a portable device, as I don't have multiple sony devices to try it. I assume the db is on the portable though. I should point out that I resassign all the SS directory paths to the new SS directory aswell. So they all point to C:\SS1 or C:\SS2 etc.

The solution is to buy a mac compatible HiMD. No?

Why minidisc use is prohibitied during take off/landing?
Sparky191 replied to riotshield's topic in The Loft
I was looking at this on a flight recently. Playback is prohibitied during take off and landing, you can playback ok during the flight. But recording on a Minidisc is prohibitied the entire flight. -
I'm still using cassettes! I have a Cassette adapter which I plug my MP3/HiMD into.
-
No offence but the only person I've ever seen doing this is some old bloke listening to sports results in the corner. At least you found what you want.
-
Welcome to the internet... The only thing I've seen which does what your looking for is the VOIP PC headsets something like. http://www.sennheisercommunications.com/co....nsf/root/05348 Perhaps if you look into that area you'll find something in an earbud?

Obviously weight is a problem if you need to clip it to something. I disagree about the cable length.
-
Talking to someone when they are doing something else, like on a computer is one thing. However listening to the radio while your walking with someone is entirely another. To me at least. But each to their own. Then worrying about missing something?
-
I'm not a bit fan of the remotes' myself. I can understand they are on a big unit like a Hard Drive DAP like a X5 or an iPod. But the MD are small enough in themselves. The other thing that annoys me is the length of the cables. They are simply too long! Short cabled earphones are too short as the remote is too heavy and its weight drag the earphones down. Hence why I'd like to get a RH1 but won't be. I wouldn't use it as a player and I don't do enough recording to warrant one unless my NH700 breaks.
-
There's an awful lot of things that Sony do, especially with MD/HiMD that make absolutely no sense. Don't drive yourself crazy wondering about it. The remotes are very cheap on ebay. Fakes or not, they work.
-
To be honest I'm just completely baffled at what you are trying to do.
-
Theres probably an adapter that does this, stereo to mono. Dunno how you can listen to two things, at once though.

Yes but not a V3? I liked my V3 but I replaced it with a sony K750i and it also charges off USB, but it has its own properitary cable. (slow clap for Sony) I used to have Zen Micro and it had a USB AC charger with it and you can buy a travel plug for that. Don't think I tried the V3 on that though. Generally I turn my mobiles off on holidays, only turning it on to get texts etc. They usually last a few weeks Still think a battery charger is handy.
