  1. I said re-import, not re-encode. BIG difference.
  2. Well I'd say the NH700 is the best cheap model, but it tends to be alot more expensive than the NH600. The NH600D is a great cheap and cheerful player only.
  3. Basically I'd get the newest one that the cheapest! Only problem with used units if that the lasers can go. Which is a small risk on older units. So try to get the newest one you can. A local store to me is advertising a MD for €59. Thats old stock, but new. http://www.xtravision.ie/xvContent.asp?id=71 In the add it shows NF610 but the text says its a MH700. I'll check it out for you can confirm which one it is. If its a MH700, I might pick up a 2nd unit for myself.
  4. I've a few email accounts some on domains I own etc. However usually I use a web account like gmail for my forum subs. I find Gmail filters mosts spam. I only see maybe one spam a month in Gmail. Everything else gets caught. Its just unusual to see it get through as it did in this case. I prefer using a web client at work, and my hosting companies, web email client I don't like. Besides mail via a domain is easily traced to the domains registered address. Sometimes you don't want such an easy link.
  5. In fairness its the bane of MD users too...
  6. IMO it would be best to get NH600 at this point. Well worth the extra.
  7. Got that spam too. Unusual for me to get it too. Time to change emails again.. sigh.
  8. Like the photos. That MC55ELK looks a nice remote than the EL38. I have the latter but don't really like it. Link pleaser to the post on RM-MC55ELK at T-board?
  9. You could buy a cheap PC sound card with an optical out. Then you can record via optical off that on to your MD. Or just pick up a cheap used NH600, or NetMD. That would be easier in the long run.
  10. night-crawler - Dude when you have a problem you should really resolve that and not keep reinstalling and reinstalling. That really makes the problem worse. If it were me. I'd remove all the music from Sonic Stage, but not delete it from the HD. Copy it to another folder as a backp. Then uninstall SonicStage and make sure its completely gone from the system and the registry etc. Then reinstall SonicStage and reimport the music to it. I've never really had any problems with SonicStage myself. But I have noticed that sometimes (when I've been hacking it about) it doesn't update library correctly. Its like the library is corrupt or something for a couple of tracks. So by clearing the library and reimporting everything it seems to resolve everything. For me anyway.
  11. If you reread his post. Hes not got a RH1. Hes just reading the specs off that page. LOL as one of "those" members, even I thought that was funny!
  12. I've almost 8GB of family photos and video's. But thats just a fraction of the stuff I have. Work and Music is massive.
  13. I don't own a HD amp HiMD. But I couple of friends do, NH1, RH910 so I ABX'ed with my ex-shuffle. Why buy a player WITH a screen if it can't read the tags... To make filename really useful they have to be long and include other details like artist, album. Then the filename become too long IMO, especially for a portable. So while I like filetree, I realise it has limitations. Agreed. Every player out there is compromised.
  14. Primarily it sounded better than everything else I've tried. PCDP, Zen Micro, iPods, HiMD etc. AFAIK the Cowons support for tags is limited. Also it gets a mixed opinion about the sound quality. Some say its great, some say its too artifical with all the EQ and Bass effects. I am tempted though. Twice the price of the Shuffle or a Zen Muvo but 2yr warranty.
  15. I actually do have those. They are ok, but to be honest I prefer my cheap MX500's. I also have the PMX100's but they are a little too bassy for me. I'm going to try Koss KSC-75 next.
  16. The current popular low end canal phone, on head fi is the Sennheiser CX300 or the Creative EP-630. I haven't tried either so I can't comment. The Koss Plugs doesn't seem to be that well regarded.
  17. Jeez at the start I didn't see the point of these player only units but now I want one!
  18. I think a lot of people do that, HiMD as a recorder and MP3 player as well a player. Ironically I sold my Zen Micro and my iPod Shuffle stopped working so I'm back using my HiMD MH700 as a player. I don't use my legacy MD units anymore or the discs for that matter. Must get rid of them. I'm actually getting tempted to get one of those HiMD player only units simply because I like the look of them. Bit pricey though, pity there don't take a AA. I'll probably get another Shuffle as it sounded fantastic, and is so small. I'm using SS a bit more these days. I used only use it to transfer stuff to and from the HiMD. These days I'm keeping a little ATRAC library together while I use the HiMD as a player. The majority of my stuff is in MP3 though.
  19. I don't get all the iPod bashing myself. Its a different product to MD/HiMD. Live and let live. What killed the MD market is Sony, not anythng Apple does.
  20. Robo11 - you are talking about Security through Obscurity. Which at best is very very weak security. A strong system is better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_through_obscurity My backup at home is around 200GB at this point. Photos, music, video, docs, source code etc. HiMD isn't feasible for that.
  21. Doesn't give any details of the survey or what it measures. "index for quality" what is that? Sloppy article that talks a lot and says nothing.
  22. To be honest anyone thats saving small amounts of data and won't be effected by the HiMD slow speeds, isn't going to need 1GB of storage. A CDRW/DVDRW drive is faster and more useful for the majority of people.

    Hi-MD

For the light. Pick up a cheap remote on ebay. I got a RM-MC38EL very cheap. I don't like remotes myself but it is handy at night.
