- IMHO SS is not meant to 'edit music'... it does allow you to split tracks, but in such a bad way that it is nearly unusable... get audacity from the downloads section and edit your music in a real (and free) audio-editor - reverting to an earlier version won't make those tracks be recognized (if they are burned to a CD in atrac format) as they probably carry DRM (all old versions of SS do this) - if the CD is in normal audio format (wav) then it should be possible to rip it with whatever program you want - if you still have the tracks on HD but didn't use the SS backup tool it is possible that (because of DRM) they aren't recognized by SS anymore... again reverting to an old version won't help just keep the new version (newest and best is 3.4 available from the downloads section) and use audacity for real editing...

hi and welcome to MDCF, just a couple of things... - the oldest version I personally ever heard of is 1.5 - the new version really is better than any version before so why don't you explain what's wrong and we'll try and help you use this good ... well euh better... version instead of going back to prehistoric buggy and fully DRM'ed versions
-
well, I assume there will be a couple of skins (otherwise it wouldn't be a skin, but just one standard 'look' ) and as you 'color-loving' ppl already have a shiny white/blue one with refault2... I just dared to suggest a grey(ish) one I think the ppl here are colorful enough by themselves and I personally like to focus on what is said, not what color the text is on a completely unrelated note: a grey one with the avatars on the left is easily 'disguised' as something 'serious' at work by simply enlarging the window and sliding the avatar-column out of the screen to the left (this leaves the scrollbar on the right available)... but then again I wouldn't dare to read MDCF during work hours
-
i like the first one you posted stuge... but still, way too flashy icons i love something in greytones (not much contrasting shades needed, very clean, simple and easy to read) for me the text/content is most important, so distracting 'buttons', banners, icons/symbols are definitely ot needed but anyways... even though i have participated in the discussion, I'll probably find one in the final selection I will be able to get used to I trust your choice kurisu... it has been quite good so far
-
ok, I know I have contributed to this as well, but I guess it's time to let the 'Shion selling a malfunctioning NH900 for new'-issue rest... so I for one promise to not mention this again (unless Shion makes a remark on ethics etc or tries to sell stuff here) but please Shion stop making (lousy! it was brand new AND MALFUNCTIONING which you forgot to mention, and wow a charger so now he can charge but can't really enter the menu) excuses for what you've done: just accept that by telling us you have ruined your rep with a bunch of us who think honesty and ethics are quite important... get over it and stop defending your actions as far as I'm concerned...case closed (if anyone feels the need to continue this... use PM please, these boards are too much fun to use as a battlefield)
-
ehm, no atrain... I guess kurisu has taken them off temporarily as they didn't play nice with the latest board updates... so no probs, they will return kinda weird that basicX still shows for you as I didn't switch manually, all of a sudden it just showed as refault2 and the other options are gone
-
dogville... I assume you have read he very thorough review by mark/MDFreak... if not, just have a look at the news section... there's a link to it somewhere

come on guys... this clearly is not about change (well, it isn't mainly for me at least) it is aout preference: - I too like the avatars on the left as I see immediately who posted what, while now I have to look twice - things are more spread out, which makes navigating with a touchpad a tad more work - my PC and powerbook are both 'greyed out' (I have a very nice overall grey/silver look going (through selected skins for most apps, a personalised desktop pic in greyscale, etc) and the basicX just fit the picture these are things that won't 'grow' on me... so yes, I can live with the refault for now, but I'll be glad once there's (a skin like) basicX again BTW: there is also a part that is related to change... I can blindly find all I need in b-x, and that is very pleasant... while I now am looking for stuff all the time

- are you running windows skins or something like that? this sometimes ruins SS-performance - have you tried a complete uninstall like described in the pinned thread "things not working, look inside" and then do a fresh install of 3.4
-
- if you've got the cash, the RH1 = best - if you haven't got that much, get the NH700 (the recordings sound just as good and it takes AA batteries) and get an RM-MC40ELK remote as well (this gives you the 'glow in the dark' function of the RH10, but you can use it still if you decide to upgrade to the RH1 later)
-
congrats Atrain... that means you have a legit copy ... or at least now you do
-
no, you are - on the other hand - actively aiding the spread of this disease onto unsuspecting ppl!even though I understand your frustration with bugs (heck, I had the NH900 button malfunction myself and had it repaired under warranty) I do not agree with your solution. You should simply have kept the item as a lesson learned from your mistake of buying used (or even new) without warranty (which I think is kinda dumb with a 'new' item) without testing it first. Yes you can buy almost anything through flea-bay, bu that doesn't mean it is wise to do so! But in stead of learning from that first instance, you have continued to try and save a few bucks, getting robbed and then robbing someone else... it's ppl like you that make buying from ebay very dangerous... if everyone thinks like you, in the end only broken NH900's will be sold and resold on ebay as noone else trusts it anymore - well, you clearly haven't learned yet...- that's why everyone here (and on other forums as well) warns ppl for buying products with proprietary batteries! if you have had this much 'experience' with buggy electronics, it should be time to start researching stuff before you buy... this kind of stuff will happen again (all kinds of companies use proprietary stuff and all electronics will fail at one time... the final solution to this...stop using electronics )... perhaps you can try to sell the camera as well? - it works for all bass untill the bottom of the HiMD spectrum (20Hz), that's exactly why lowering all bands works better than raising some. - one tip (for you and ChrisG as well) do some research! get some nice sounding EFFICIENT headphones. I use $25 Pana's RP-JE50's (and while they do not qualify as audiophile) they do sound good, lock out external noise and I never (not even on crowded trains) have to raise volume over 18/30 even with the lowered eq I can understand that, but I got a bit confused as you said gumsticks suck and the sharp is great as it came with a 1400mAh gumstick... believe me shion, evidently you are free to switch back to MD if you don't trust HiMD anymore... all of that I have absolutely no problems with... it's the fact that you have sold your malfunctioning NH900 'as new' onto an unsuspecting buyer without mentioning any problems
-
indeed, I've not read any reports of RH910's dying without serious cause...while the RH10 is known to be weak in regards to scratches and the slightly instable OLED go for the RH910/NH1/RH1-combo ... it's not necessary to have the top model of each generation

Ripping (nonHi) MD to Computer
The Low Volta replied to Street_Samurai's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
huh, forward lock please explain! you mean Sony invented MD but already had HiMD in mind, but thinking if we lock the format, then sell a couple of standard HiMD's, then offer the RH1 which can unlock the format we'll sell more... please unblock your head from that tight space where the sun doesn't shine and realize that: - they hadn't thought of uploading at all at the time they invented MD - they didn't realize uploading standard MD's was of such importance for a lot of ppl - they now have actually listened to the MD community (at a time they could have just as well ditched the format entirely) - they might have needed some time to get the technology to a point it actually allowed the legacy formats to be uploaded -... but of course it is much easier (especially on your wallet) to believe in conspiracy theories or... "I still have ----my---- own music in a reasonably good quality thanks to this format...and now it will even be uploadable to PC/mac even though that was never predicted/promised" but hey, who am I to say you shouldn't have recorded your music on tape or something alike and lost it by now or had to transfer analoguely (which you can still do with your legacy MD's as well... they were never really 'stuck' now, or where they?) noone ever forced you to buy sony in the first place ...or did they? do some research before you buy, that will save a lot of sorrow hmm...as I said before, your music was saved thanks to them as well... so without sony you wouldn't have to get a new device to upload your old recordings... as there wouldn't have been any uploadable old recordings without sony. [irony]Yeah that seems like a good reason to rip someone off!![/irony] no, actually you don't... that's:- another department of sony - commercial music (not your own recordings) - other formats (CD) so not relevant to your planned action/complaints well:1) I agree... but that doesn't make it right for you to shorten the lifespan of the machine for someone else 2) yeah, but the warranty is also for the person who buys and keeps the object... it wasn't invented so that when it breaks after ppl use and return something, it is repairable...please just admit you're planning to do somethig morally wrong and stop making excuses... this really only makes it look worse, you know 3) that is besides the point: it should be 30 rips for the person who pays full price and not for you... heck, buying 10 1gb discs won't deplete anyones paycheck seriously, don't you agree? so why won't you buy me 10 1gb discs monthly? because it is your paycheck and you do not want to give me 10 discs each month even if you can easily miss the money (certainly not after I've nagged about this for so long ) so why would the next buyer of 'your RH1' give you 30 uploads?... again, please quit making (lousy) excuses... hmm:- discarding your sorry reasons didn't take much time - it's not so much that I've got too much time...it rather seems I've got too much respect for my fellow ppl! (unlike some) -
make up your mind... is the gumstick good or not? the NH900 can give great bass if you know how to use the eq (and greenmachine has shown us ) and if you use good phones so you have replaced a HiMD recorder with a strictly SP player only unit and you are happy about it, just cause it isn't made by sony... talking about holding a grudge (you could team up with ChrisG, he's selling his RH10 cause he doesn't want to listen to music, only to bass ) but let's not forget the most important thing about this switch... which you chose not to mention (this time, but you did before): - you've sold your NH900 not for the sound, but because of button malfunctions - you've sold your malfunctioning NH900 to an unsuspecting person without mentioning the problem... which puts you in the same position as sony if not worse... cause we might believe sony did not know about the button problem but you definitely did
-
sorry for asking this daniel...but why would you wanna try it? everyone knows it is crap and full of bugs; it also offered not one 'feature' not present in SS3.4... if you are having trouble with the latest SS it probably means your windows/mp3 codec/... is buggy as SS3.4 really is quite stable and has a LOT more features than all the rest! even when reverting to an earlier SS (ven though I really think it is useless) I would never go back beyond 2.3 and preferably not before 3.3... still, better find what's wrong with the rest as 3.4 offers too many good things to ignore it IMHO
-
sorry, but I use the settings greenmachine posted earlier and they do not (in any way) make music sound like am radio...it does raise the bass, you have to raise the overall volume of course as you have lowered it with the EQ. I don't know what's really bothering you but perhaps someone should advise you to get some real headphones (hey they did already) or maybe even to get a medic check your ears as you have already decided 'no eq setting' will do the trick (you must have checked every possible combo I presume ) the answer is simple: just sell the RH10... but why post this thread if you do not want to be helped?

Ripping (nonHi) MD to Computer
The Low Volta replied to Street_Samurai's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
...and by doing that making sure someone out there gets a slightly used unit that might break down earlier... why not just buy one and use it for recording? Or at least don't advertise such low behaviour... or share with us the store you'll play this trick on so we know which one to avoid you've gotta love these ppl... talking about something morally wrong with pride, as if they have every right to act this way (please note a slight ironic tone: I don't really care you stealing from Sony, even though I personally do not agree with the described actions as it also affects the next person who buys your 'used' machine for the full price) -
RH10 vs RH910 vs NH700 and mics (recommendations please?)
The Low Volta replied to ari's topic in Minidisc
be sure to check out the DIY or premade mics by greenmachine... (pinned links in the live rec forums I believe) -
The NH600, as all 1st gen HiMD's is compatible with MP3 in the sense that the program you need to use for transfer of music to MD - SonicStage - will read MP3's and allow you to convert them (manually or automatically) to Atrac3 or atrac3+ the formats the HiMD understands. the 2nd gen is really MP3 compatible as it can play MP3 without conversion but no MD can play MP3 (or any other format) by using drag-n-drop transfers... edit: raintheory beat me to it and welcome to MDCF from me as well!

well, I dunno for sure, but as it works without the battery, I have just built a habit of removing the battery before connecting to PC
-
sometimes passwords with special symbols don't work in the downloads section... if you have any symbols in there, just change your password to something without and try it again... if it still doesn't work, just PM a Mod/Admin
-
it will be normal CD-audio format 16/44.1, but as atrac is a lossy compressed format it won't be full CD quality Connect sells music in LP2 which is Atrac3@132kbps This is (for me at least) not really acceptable for music (for speech it is fine) so I would never buy music from he connect-store just get the real CD, rip to MD with SimpleBurner... this will give you the best options as you can choose the bitrate and type of atrac AND you still have the full-quality cd!

I'm looking forward to someone changing the title of this thread... I'm always puzzled by it "huh, isn't it past the 20th yet?" looking forward to your review as well (especially reading what's different when compared to the excellent review MDreak and Richyu did of the prototype)
