there are other Sony DAP's (like the PSP, little Vaios, HD's and flash-based ones) some of those can use the new bitrates...but for HiMD...indeed!
-
heck, I'm in! my offer: 80 min MD in HiSP with music I really love and some live rec's (good bands as well) I have quite a broad musical taste (lots of genres/degrees of loudness-quietness)...but it's all in the alternative/indie/NOT-pop-RnB-rap-house region (and I would enjoy something like that in return, but I think that would be impossible to arrange for our admin, so I'll take what's coming ) will trade internationally
-
@ smkranz: it kinda depends... there's quite some different brewing types in B. - 'trapist' is a trademarked/controlled name only given to beers that are still brewed in abbeys with the traditional method (there are only 8, 6 B. and 2 Dutch... Westmalle and Orval are the two I like best) These can only be exported, not brewed abroad for obvious reasons. - still kinda artisanal beers, like Duvel and a lot of lambic, some white beers and a bunch of former abbey beers... these are brewed in a mix oftraditional and industrial fashion but not in high quantities... So these are exported as well, and can cost (just like the trapist beers) quite a lot abroad - the industrial beers... well, kinda what the name says: industrialized, often within large internationals (like InBev, formerly interbrew, which produces Stella, Jupiler, and a bunch of special beers). These are sometimes exported (but only with more special beers to keep the price high and the beer 'special') but often produced abroad... with slight modulations to the taste to fit in with the local desires so no clear answer there, as I haven't really researched this and I can't definitely tell which beers are and which aren't imported... but if you ca score a trapist or a Duvel somewhere (and Delirium as well I guess)... you can be sure it's real Belgian beer you're tasting
-
that is quite good beer... but I prefer 'Duvel' which gives an extra tongue in cheek in these 'holy days'
-
there are only a few bitrates available for HiMD... in short: all the usual ones + 352kbps (since SS3.3)
-
I'll be writing two papers, a research-fund application, a project kick-off-report and somewhere in between all that I still have to party like it's the end of 2005

Hi and welcome to MDCF, 2nd gen HiMD (like the RH10) allow for MP3 playback (unconverted) but... -it still has to pass through SonicStage (PC only-software) -there are slight problems with MP3-playback (you need to use the equalizer as the higher frequencies have a dropoff when playing MP3...you can search these forums for more info about this playback issue)
-
hi and welcome to MDCF, only option (for uploading your own recordings to mac) is the analogue headphone out (HiMD)-> line in on mac and record with something like audacity or to run SS under a windows emulator on mac (but this is very slow!!)...this is also the only option to get music from PC->HiMD (even with the M-models) as there is no software at all that allows mac to do this otherwise so sorry to say this, but HiMD and mac still ain't a good combo... and while the M-models do offer uploading of PCM, the rest of the HiMD-PC functionality is still void
-
without wanting to brag I have (very small) harman/kardon-speakers mounted in my (humongeous) portable PC... it makes listening to music at work sound so much better...still I could use a subwoofer as they can't really handle bass (but the standalone models do!)
-
on the back of the unit itself there should be "CE" to show that it has been approved by the European Commission
-
to avoid confusion: -all HiMDs except the NH1 and the camera-model use a generic USB->miniplug cable (like digital cameras etc..) which can be found very cheap - the NH1 and one older (netMD) model use a Sony-proprietary USB cable, which is quite expensive when bought from Sony, but as atrain's post shows can be found pretty cheap on ebay sometimes

actually e1ghtyf1ve, it has nothing to do with the original post... except that the original poster has bought the deceased NH900 from minidisc.au and was worried about their warranty policy: and in post #5 someone refered to the good warranty policy by minidisc.au when his NH900 had button malfunctions on which atelectronics in post #7 commented that button malfunctions are often caused by stuck buttons which led to my reply on the stuck buttons in post #8 which again led to the remark by tekdroid: to which I responded with a link to my old thread, just to prove that it is nothing new... but you are actually completely right as this was a parallel (and pretty off-topic) discussion to the one about the unresponsive NH900... but the original question: has actually been answered: contact Sefu at minidisc.au through the PM function here on MDCF and send the unit back under warranty as it is clearly defective still, further speculation/clarification on the cause of death could be very interesting... so I'll keep following this thread...but I'll try and restrain myself from further comments on button malfunctions
-
they are transferred with SonicStage and thus written in some 'cryptic'-Sony-way (but still as MP3, not converted to atrac) to the disc absolutely no drag-n-drop, but if it is not for easy sharing with friends, this is not really a big deal I guess HiMD can carry MP3's as simple MP3's, but only as data i.e. not playable on the portable device...all playable music on the device has to pass through SS PS: welcome to MDCF forums ortodox...

Syrius was almost completely right... but there are actually two methods of uploading (rather copying) material from HiMD->PC -digital: this is the TR-method (playback with SS) and it gives very good SQ as it grabs the digital stream even before it passes through the soundcard -analogue: can be done with TR (but if you have got TR, this method isn't as good as the first one, so only use this when SS-playback doesn't work) or other (free) programs like Audacity... connect the headphone out (MD) to line in (on PC) and record the analogue stream with the recording prog or playback with SS and record the (analogue) stereo mixer output from the soundcard in TR or audacity read more about it here

currently in an 'explosions in the sky'-mood ... which has been going on for a couple of weeks actually (no sudden moodswings for me ) so now I'm listening to: - how strange, innocence - the earth is not a cold dead place - Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever - my own recording of eits live in the Botanique (14/11/05)
-
I don't really recall 100% greenmachine, but either it was fresh out of the wrapper or it had been recorded on only once... could have been a faulty disc to start with (and the recording lost - well the 3 seconds lost actually - aren't really important either as it was a not so very good standup comedian) I will check it if I have the time
-
I have just detected my first recording glitch...on a crystal-blue HiMD and the NH900 was completely still while recording (I sat down the whole show)... with playback on NH900 it sounds like a glitch but in SS it won't play beyond the glitch and uploading (for the 10 min with the glitch) is impossible... It has dented my trust in HiMD-discs a little bit I must say
-
try this one... as I said, I got the button malfunctions quite a while ago (almost 1 year now) and it was this that led me to MDCF as well
-
to just finish this off, I'll requote myself... I 'm sorry if my "tone of voice" (if possible ) offended anyone... but I was just pointing out (in a calm manner... therefore no unecessary caps, again) to the person in question that he/she be careful with full-caps-posts as it is often interpreted as shouting and I did not want this person to be discouraged in forums because of an angry reaction by someone... I did also react to the content of the post... and not in an angry/insulted (or anything) fashion, but with my experiences so...no hard feelings... but while I didn't invent the "rule" I do think it is useful enough to teach to newbies (even when born in the 'non-digital' jungle, heck I'm 26...I experienced the birth of the 1st home computer...I still know what PC stands for, let alone I knew BBS and pre www internet ) PEACE TO ALL (yes, this was intended to sound very loud ), Volta edit: I do not ask/support for anyone to be banned (this topic just isn't serious enough for it IMHO), but as I said ... anarchy just for the heck of it isn't really constructive in my book either, so let's all be a little bit more flexible and all's well... it's almost X-mass after all
-
human, I get your point of view... no need to repeat it (or is repeating when feeling misunderstood a culturized/socialized rule)... I just think caps/bold is different sometimes material things (like colour/pictures or even typography) invoke human feelings, still these are not really "rules"... red has (depending on the context) invoked feelings of love/lust (see all the soppy/mushy stuff in red now or even the red light district) or danger (red traffic signs)... these things are (after quite a while) absorbed by habit/legislation etc. as rules, but still stem from real/lived feelings! so I think I would feel the same about caps, rule or not! there's a difference between a rule that's been imposed without any 'logic' and a 'rule'/'convention' stemming/grown from 'long time use' and/or 'logics' please, unless you have som real/non-anarchistic arguments against typographic conventions, let's stop this discussion here, I think we've stretched it long enough
-
human... I really love your alternative, humanistic and perhaps even esoteric style...honestly! It's very refreshing to see someone passionate about technology who is at the same time so... well, 'human'! but the fact about caps isn't my invention nor this board's or really any other... it's a simple fact that words in caps demand more attention than words in small cases...just like something said in a raised voice is more 'pressing' than something said normally. To come back to your statement on colours... my mum teaches sciences of colours at arts schools in Belgium and throughout the years colours have had different meanings, but still, red has always (well very often) been interpreted/used as a colour of warning... shouting at you "watch out!"... is this wrong? No! If it works, then it is easy as it allows symbolic communication. With these conventionist 'rules' I can whisper or SHOUT without you ever seeing me... that's not really rules because we like rules, that's part of human interaction mediated by machines... I can't see you when you're typing posts, so on boards we use stuff we can see (like caps or even bold/italic and other typographic styles) to interpret the plain text as "speech" in stead of plain text. A few of the greatest (Flemish) poets like Paul Van Ostayen (see this poem "Boem" by him where the sound of a concert is represented by typography) used this knowledge to represent sound and suddenness etc. by typograpghics... You see, human (and others that did not get my remark against caps) I just wanted to point something out that for a lot of ppl is pretty obvious (caps =shouting, bold = stress, italic = (often) irony,...)... I do not really need rules, just to have rules...but I really can't stand anarchy just for anarchy

after all the brilliant feedback on connect I read at atraclife forums...I'd rather say: "no, fortunately it is not"
-
must be mistaken with the euro versions, as I haven't heard of "euro-capped" japanese versions before... japanes versions should have full output

Recommendations on purchasing Sony MZ-NH700 or 900
The Low Volta replied to kkconnell's topic in Minidisc
all D-models are downloaders only...no mic/line in (which the NH700/900 do have) so watch out what you get... the RH910 (for the NH700) and RH10 (for the NH900/NH1) are more comparable -
ATELETRONICS... please ease up on the CAPS... on boards this is interpreted as shouting I also had the NH900 button malfunctions, it really has nothing to do with a button being stuck, it happened with 3 different buttons on mine (stop, menu and ffw/rew)
