What happened? I have not been able to login for days.

Impressive, most impressive.

Hehe, late reply. Totaly disagree with the reviewers notes on sound quality. Look at his source, referring to portable sound. 192 kbps mp3's and an ipood. He mentions he also uses the original CD's on a home system and the output on a Creative sound card. I use mine mainly on my iAudio X5L and my MD units. The anemic amp of my sony units can barely drive them so I am thinking that a sound card is definitely not going to have the umph to drive them. The iAudio has more power to drive them and I am perfectly happy with the way they sound. Did I mention I mainly have 320 kbps mp3's? Paired with the right source, they are an excellent buy for the price. They should be around $50-$60 now.

The problem for us here in the US is that we are here in the US and not Japan. Unless you want to volunteer to go buy some and offer them for less.

I know there is a thread somewhere here. Someone got Sonic Stage to work under WINE. You will definitely need to install Windows or a Mac equivilent.

I am on Ubuntu now and when I saw this I just about freaked. Awesome!

Posting your price would be very helpful.

I liked mine when I had it. I used it as a mini-deck next to the PC. The thing that got me was the battery life. It would chew through batteries like there was no tomorrow.

I own the Extigy. It is good for what it does. Its not the best but is better than internal sound cards. It has clean sounding inputs and outputs. I bought mine used on eBay and have not had problems with it hardware wise. The drivers are a little buggy though. Sometimes I have to reboot my machine to get the sound to work if I had the extigy off before I originally booted my computer. In other words, make sure the extigy is on before your computer is. It has happened maybe about 5-6 times since I have had it. It's going on two years I think. I have used my Extigy to record the PC optical output to my JE330 MD deck. Can't say that I hear a difference in the recording or the original. I would not go as far as saying that the recording is better than the original. As already pointed out, that is just silly.

Another vote for Audacity. I have been trying out WavPad too but I keep going back to Audacity.

I bought these a while back and have been really happy with them. Just thought I would share:

I had the CX300's. I compared them to the Fuji E3220's and they are almost the same thing, cosmetically and sound wise.
-
I am most familiar with Audacity. I downloaded WavePad to try it and it is very close to Audacity but with a prettier UI. One thing I miss in WavePad is the time marks. That has forced me back to Audacity. I really need my timing marks!

You probably filled the TOC with the titles characters. That will also get you the same message. I can't remeber what the character limit is though.

Questions: MZ-NHF800's Battery Life and "VPT" Acoustic Engine
KrazyIvan replied to HEARDATBEAT's topic in Minidisc
Hehe, I use my CD/MD Deck to record SP discs but I use 256 kbps for mass music disc compilations. Most of my stuff is in SP though. -
Questions: MZ-NHF800's Battery Life and "VPT" Acoustic Engine
KrazyIvan replied to HEARDATBEAT's topic in Minidisc
I have the NHF800 but never heard of the VPT acoustic engine. Well I might have but maybe not in those terms. I use Ni-MH AA batteries with mine and get about 35 hours for playback only (256-292 kbps) and about 20 hours record. I use Energizer 2200 mAh AA's. That's a rough guess but pretty close. You can only use AA batteries with the NHF800. It does not have an external battery case. -
Not really. You just cut and paste titles instead of typing them out.

optical vs. coaxial digital input
KrazyIvan replied to airwalk's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
What about power requirements? I don't know for sure, but I think coax needs more power than optical. That would be a good reason to choose optical over coax in portables. -
There's your problem. You should never have talked to Agent Smith to begin with.
-
I used to do this a while back. Then I purchased an SP MD deck. Have not done it since. Caveat on the ejecting process. I deleted a virtual disc before ejecting it and that was a major pain to fix. Always eject your virtual disc when done with it.

what on earth do you mean by "normal hearing"? Are you saying you have abnormal hearing now?

optical vs. coaxial digital input
KrazyIvan replied to airwalk's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Size of the jack? At least for portables anyway. -
I had an R900. It has the feature to change the headphone jack to a line-out or pseudo line out as I like to call it. I could not tell the difference between the line out mode and maxing the volume with no EQ. Of course, this is just my ears and I never did any concrete measurements, not that I have the gear to do it anyway.

What have you just done to your computer!
KrazyIvan replied to mercury_in_flames's topic in The Loft
Just had the cable company swap my cable modem out for one that is VOIP enabled. I am no longer tied to a traditional phone company for my phone service.
