Another vote for audacity here.
-
forgot about that. Somehow I was thinking RH10.
-
I don't beleive that the newer units can record true sp mode.
-
In newer models it is almost interchangable. The headphone out is the line out. You just choose a menu option to change the output. The jack is still the headphone out. Even then it is not a true line out. It is basically the volume maxed out with all EQ bands set to zero. Don't quote me on this but I think there has not been a unit with a true seperate line out since the MZ-R50.
-
I just PM'd you but no, the NHF800 does not have the menu option to change backlight options like the RH10. It just works on what I beleive is auto mode. It turns on while you are using it then shuts off after a few seconds of non-use. If the remote is plugged in properly then I beleive the backlight is defective.

Well, FWIW, I have never had a problem with SS that I did not cause myself. I started with version 2. Right now I have SSCP installed on my laptop and SS3.4 on my workstation.

The rat shack mixers will work but you can get a very good 4 channel mixer for about the same price as the rat shack mixers. Behringer makes some and so does Yamaha and Alesis. Look at www.musiciansfriend.com or www.zzounds.com. Both will be very competetive. If you have a Guitar Center locally you can get some hands on looks at almost anything they have.

Rayzray! Have not seen you in a while! Yeah, Audacity is good for remixing in the way you taught me. You are doing everything the same way with the exception that I do it on the computer. If I had a deck that could devide tracks so precisely it would be cool to do it on the deck. Oh well, I work with what I have. Did you ever receive my remix MD?
-
You can actually do it with a deck that supports dividing tracks down to milliseconds. Rayzray does this for remixing and showed me how to do it. My deck cannot devide tracks at that high of a resolution so I do my remixes in Audacity.
-
I am not sure. I don't have an RH10. Wizard: Although MD is good for a lot of things for a full blown DJ'ing rig I would not use portables. Decks would be better but if you truly want a full blown setup, it is going to be easier with dedicated DJ'ing CD decks or turntables if you go vinyl. I am not at that level yet so MD portables work fine for me.
-
nope. Since it is his band, most likely he has access to the sound board so he can plug in there. A mic in will come in handy though. I just don't want him to get stuck with a downloader only unit like the 600D.
-
I have done it before. I max the volume on the MD unit and flatten any EQ settings. I set the trim on the mixer to about half its marked max rating and that usually works pretty good.

The N707 cannot upload to a PC via the USB port. You would have to record it realtime from the headphone jack on the MD unit to the line in jack on your pc's sound card using software like audacity. That will give you a wav file that you can burn to CD. Your other option is to buy a hi-md unit. They are the only ones that can upload via USB, but there is a catch. The recording you made on the 707 cannot be uploaded by just any unit, it needs to be the RH1. If you go Hi-MD that may be your best bet. If you have not recorded very much you could switch to any Hi-md unit with a line in and start recording your next shows and upload them without problems.

what about XMMS? http://www.xmms.org/

I have the F80 and thankfully my battery still works. This got me thinking on what would I do if the battery dies. I have the AA attachment so, I could probably use it but I like using it without the attachment.
-
That's what really made this unit attractive to me. It's a little offbeat. The eject button is actually the rectangle with the word "eject". You just push it to eject. The neat thisg is the manual eject lock. You turn the knob about a quarter turn clockwise to lock it. It keeps you from accidentally ejecting the disc. Yes, both an AA and gumstick can be used internally. I'll have to check the instructions, but I think you cannot have both in at the same time. That gumstick is the original and it is dead unfortunately. Not a big loss since I have several extras.
-
Okay, I did not know that. That is actually pretty cool. It is still a little overpowering with some of my music. Maybe it is just me.
-
Bland, it's niether. Just 1 step, either on or off. Kind of like the bass boost button on older CDP units. Sector: The remote is EL backlit. The remote has a clip, so, if positioned just right, I would look like some sort of space cadet.
-
I really like the sound of this unit. Bass can be overpowering on some headphones but with the bass turned off and eggo D11's sounds really good. The remote took a little getting used to but the jog dial is exactly like the R900's for navigating between tracks.

A recent eBay aquisition.

Sale is pending.

If Ubuntu had problems I think Kubuntu will have more. It is more of a resource hog so you are just asking for it.
-
Have you tried Fedora yet?
-
I don't agree. I just bought some UE Super.Fi 3 Studios and was amazed that there was a lack of microphonics. The Sony EX71/Pana HJE50/Senn CX300/Fuji E3220/JVC FX55 (which I own or have owned) all suffer from microphnics. When I tried the Super.Fi's I was floored.

They are even better in real life, really.
