  1. Usually the best price is going to be found on eBay. You could try doing some searches on Froogle.
  2. Well, you peaked my curiosity, I tried that rootkit program and it did not find anything fishy on my system. I have Sonic Stage and Simple Burner installed.
  3. I usually use the >>| or |<< buttons to go through the tracks or you can use the group "+" or "-" buttons to skip through groups.
  4. No, the jack on the remote is the headphone jack. You plug your headphones into the remote. That's why a lot of people prefer short cord headphones because the remote cord is already long enough. You don't need a long headphone cord on top of that.
  5. Two completly different functions for me. My SP deck is hooked up to my CD player for optical dubs of CD's. My Hi-MD portable recorder is for recording live sessions via mic or line in.
  6. I agree, I just read that 352kbps is playable on my 1st gen Hi-MD???? How? Without a firmware update? It was there all along? Ugh! I have too many unanswered questions.
  7. On your 600D look at that port right next to the headphone jack. Thats the remote port. As far as functionality, different remotes may let you do more on different units. Then there are the players that are almost totally remote dependant. It just depends on the unit/remote combination. You should have at least full playback controls with any modern remote. I would not go any older than an RM-MC11 on your 600D. I have used one with mine and the basics were there but I did not have any EQ controls, it was annoying.
  8. I think I may know what it is. When I used my 600D I played Hi-LP tracks. I just looked at the disc I was playing and it had mostly Hi-SP tracks. Doesn't battery consumption go up with higher quality bit rates?
  9. Look into the RM-MC40ELK also. Honestly it is probably the best one to use with Hi-MD because it has that 3 line display. The page you are referencing was probably made before the NH600D existed and has not been updated. I am positive it worked with it. I had two of them.
  10. I packed it up and sent it off to Massachusetts since I sold it. I had to do a last tribute to my 600D. It was a good little unit but did not work out for me since I am an avid recordist. The lack of a line in/mic in just left me with an empty feeling. It did help me get my feet wet with Hi-MD. Some may recognize the first image as one being plagarized by unscrupulous internet auctioneers. SO if you see that image in an internet auction most likely what you are buying is not what is pictured. I only have two images right now because I did not realize I had not uploaded the rest of my images. I'll update with more images shortly. All images © Copyright 2005 - Ivan Romero
  11. [shameless plug] I am selling a RM-MC33EL on eBay. I used to use it with my 600D all the time. [/shameless plug]
  12. Sparky: I have the tuner remote also. I am liking the 40ELK better though. I also have an NF610 so I use it if I want to use the radio functions. I was using a regular Energizer Alkaline cell. I have used them with my 600D too and they lasted three days. I'll be trying a Panasonic 1600mAh Ni-MH later too see if it lasts any longer. Syrius: Well quick mode is on but I don't think that would explain it since I was using the unit for eight hours with a half hour break in between. My 600D never went through a battery that fast and I had quick mode enabled on it also.
  13. Nope, it did not collect dust because of lack of use. My brother uses it while excersizing now.
  14. It just arrived yestersay. It is shown with the RM-MC40ELK remote. I also received the OEM tuner remote but I am really loving the 40ELK's screen and scroller. The little jog lever reminiscent of the R900 jog controller is also a welcome feature. The scroller on the NHF800 itself is much nicer than the scroller on the NH600D. The NHF800 is plastic like the NH600D and feels just slightly heavier than the NH600D. It is still rather light. I have not had a chance to fully test all the functions but my initial impression is that it's an NH600D with the addition of a mic/line/optical/DC input. emoticons/default_laugh.png *EDIT* I have been using this unit all day today and the one thing I have noticed is that battery power is being consumed very quickly. Had a full tank this morning and it is at half now. My NH600D lasted three days (8 hours per day) on a single battery. emoticons/default_blink.png That is with Ni-MH rechargables though. I am going to have to charge them up and see how they fair with the NHF800. All images © Copyright 2005 - Ivan Romero
  15. It is actually variable voltage capable. It will work with any DC adapter that can provide 3, 4.5, or 5 volts. It's pretty cool actually. I received it with a European charger and it worked fine with a Sony 3 Volt Adapter and a universal adapter at 4.5 volts.
  16. The R900 is by far my favorite unit. I like the way it feels in my hand and it's all metal body makes for a sturdy unit. Mind you I do not treat my unit's rough. All of them whether plastic or metal are carefully handled. I use the R900 in live recording situations. Mostly line level recordings but the occasional mic recording is also processed through this little unit. The AA battery attachment (not pictured), although ugly makes a good companion for the R900 when long recording sessions are expected. This was my first high-end unit and I plan on keeping it. Recently I considered selling it when the opportunity to get an NHF800 arose. Luckily I did not have to and I am glad that I did not. This unit will probably stay in my collection until something goes wrong with it. All images © Copyright 2005 - Ivan Romero
  17. Oops, Sorry about that, I usually resize them before posting. I forgot. I'll fix them here in just a bit.
  18. I am not sure if it is Aluminum or magnesium but it is an all metal body.
  19. I am just on a roll here. You don't see many of the lower end models getting any love in here so I decided to post these pics of my then Sharp MD-MT170. It now resides happily with my brother. All Photos © Copyright 2005 - Ivan Romero
  20. This is the first time I post in this particular forum so be gentle. Here she is. The Aiwa AM-F80. I purchased the unit used from a forum member at the T-Board. So far I really have enjoyed this unit. I especially like it's EL backlit and easy to read screen on both the unit and the remote. The rotary volume control is also a bonus. Enjoy! 21. About 8 hours a day listening to music, since I listen to it at work all the time. Almost no TV. I am in a computer related field so 8 hours a day at the computer.
  22. A lot better pictures than what you posted up at the T-Board Greg.
  23. It depends on how you treat the headphone jack. It does sound like some solder points broke. Don't know why the tech would say it is mor ecomplicated than that. Maybe he is just trained to replace the whole mainboard or something like that.
  24. Yeah, in that case you are in NetMD mode and cannot use the disc to store data. You have to have a Hi-MD formatted disc.
  25. They should have model numbers on them. Check what you have and compare it to the minidisc browser. Most of the manuals are in there. If for some reason the model numbers rubbed off or something post pics and maybe we can identify them.
