  1. True. I use coax but not for MD recording. I think you are not getting track marks because you are using a DVD player as a source.
  2. Duh Hi-MD blanks are available at Radio Shack for $6.99 IIRC. You can still use the regular MD blanks with Hi-MD though.
  3. I usually get mine at www.minidiscaccess.com but www.minidisco.com and www.planetminidisc.com also have them.
  4. They are not that readily available. Wal-mart sells the 5 pack sony colors for about $9 USD. It is getting harder to find them though. At least where I live. Best buy had some fuji 10 packs for $16 USD IIRC, but I don't recomment the black fuji discs. Most of my blank purchases are done online.
  5. Budget Batteries has a UK site too.
  6. That was me! I think Musicians Friend is where I saw it.
  7. I can vouch for Valder (Darrin), I purchased two of his units, best forum transaction I ever had.
  8. Just to add to A440's comments, don't login with an account that has admin rights. Use a limited account that cannot install software.
  9. AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (Self built system) 512 MB DDR 400 (Yeah it's overkill for my processor/motherboard but I am going to upgrade) Lite-On Dual Layer DVD burner MSI 52X CD Burner M-Audio 2496 sound card NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128 meg) I don't do much gaming anymore so it works for me. 80 GB accross two hard drives (20 gig- my main boot drive and 60 gig for data storage/temp video editing space - about 45 gigs free) XP Pro SP2 I use my rig mainly for audio editing/recording and I have just recently got into video editing. It is slow for the video editing but audio is fine. I have Sonic Stage 3.2 and it works fine. I don't plan to upgrade unless something happens that forces me to. I use Simple Burner mainly for MD transfers I want to do in a hurry. That does not happen too often. SS is used more to title discs than anything else.
  10. Exactly, or get a headphone amp, but you would be better off getting better headphones.

    MD to Mp3

It would help if you told us what MD unit you have.
  12. I am seeing Slashdot has a post that the DRM used by F4I possibly has stolen code in it too.
  13. Nationalistically speaking I should be happy. I am not though. It is actually quite sad if this is true. I am not ipod bashing. When is Sony going to wake up?
  14. I have an MZ-R900. I have never had problems with it but I have heard of people having problems with them. I think the one you really want to stay away from is the MZ-N1. The way I understand it is it has the R900 optical block. The added stress of the NetMD function is just too much for it and causes pre-mature head death.
  15. jpopsuki tv! - 307 kbps. #DNBRADIO is at 128 kbps I am just going to have to post my bookmark list.
  16. I use mostly wav files. I "upload" real time using Audacity. I edit with Audacity and sometimes the Nero wav editor. I also use Krystal Audio Engine or Mackie's Tracktion for more complex mixing needs. If I need to rip a CD to MD directly I'll use Simple Burner or CD deck to MD deck via optical. For CD ripping I use CD Extractor or EAC but I rely heavily on CD Extractor. For playback I use Winamp but mostly shoutcast type stuff. I don't store very much on my computer. Most stuff gets burned back to CD-R. I do have some MP3's I recently downloaded but I have to burn some audio CD's from them. Sonic Stage is manly used to title my discs.
  17. You know, I just noticed that. It was not too long ago that they were 128K. Don't know what happened.
  18. Well, you would need a Hi-MD unit. If it is only for storage you could get an NH600D and reformat those old MD's. They can hold 300 megs a peice with about 280 of it being usable space. It is just a matter of connecting the NH600D to your USB port and it is automatically recognized as another drive when Sonic Stage is not running. Then you just transfer the files over like you would to any other drive.
  19. I usually listen to the chillout channel on this page: http://www.di.fm/
  20. I was amazed at the quality that old Kodak DC210 could put out.
  21. Tell Sony what you realy think about its DRM: http://www.sonymusic.com/about/feedback.cgi I forgot to add this: http://blogs.washingtonpost.com/securityfi...exec_warne.html This is a quote from Howard Stringer almost five years ago.
  22. Some R70's came with the "PC Kit". It was the AN-1 adapter with a USB cable and 1/8" to 1/8" stereo cable. If you have the AN-1 I would use it instead of connecting directly to the computer analog out. You just plug it in and it should automatically be recognized by Windows. Side Note* Mine did not recognize the AN-1 until after I updated my chipset drivers. Older AMD boards (Like my Shuttle motherboard) need to have their chipset drivers updated to recognize the AN-1. Your computer sound will be routed through the AN-1 to the MD unit. Be aware that means all sounds can be recorded (beeps, dings, etc.). So don't do anything on the PC while recording or disable your PC sounds before recording. After it is connected it is just a simple matter of starting the MD recording and playing your source material. If you want to monitor the audio just plug some headphones into the R70 or plug your computer speakers into the R70's headphone jack.
  23. I actually followed MD since the beginning and bought a deck in 93 or 94. I got married in 96 and sold it. The MD bug did not bite me again until I saw my cousin with a R70. That is when I decided to get back into MD about 2-3 years ago.
  24. That's what I would do with my N510. I would turn off any EQ and raise the volume to max. I don't know if the RH10 has a line-out, but if it does use it.
