  1. dont u have the remote? can it substitute for the display on the main unit?
  2. You really shouldnt be using such a recorder as a field device I think, too valuable and unique, where the cheapest of the cheap would probably do?
  3. well welcome to this forum I hope you find it useful. You joined the game a bit late in the day but better late than never I suppose. Welcome
  4. slightly irrelevent now as you cant buy them lol much have to put up with whats there or lump it?
  5. I think the adapter needs to produce 5volts? and of course needs the correct size plug into the minidisc? Other than that nothing else. Infact I have a Sharp MT-88 and use a psu from an old Fugitsu pda pocket Loox 710 which is also 5 v and very light & does a wonderful job, better than the original very heavy one that has a transformer in it and gets hot & wastes a lot of power.
  6. well I bet the small micro cassette dictation machines went walkies after declared redundant? I suppose people try to sell their minidisc stuff on ebay first? At my local dump you see lots of crt tvs that no one - no one, wants so not worth trying to sell. Blame ebay for not seeing any minidic stuff, it hasnt yet been elevated to junk status, that webpage I posted yesterday shows the optimism of many people yet re resale values () and any way easy to put in the bin outside for the bin men to take away if really broken?
  7. I came across this set of links for sale - http://www.living3000.co.uk/shop/search/?q=Minidisc%20Player&campid=5337442535&gclid=Cj0KEQiAkdajBRCJ_7_j6sCck7wBEiQAppb2i_7NSdOm-7K4-WZlDhOIVRH9Dy71EgoLNzphS0jkCEsaAkRV8P8HAQ
  8. well did schools ever use minidisc? I think they probably used tape cassette machines? I know that was true of the college where I used to work. There were specific cassette machines intended for education looking like bricks. same for my local library for audio books ( later these would be on cds) . Mini discs would probably have gone walkies? What would Businesses use for dictation? Not minidisc but those micro cassette things? I seem to remember the national archive in the UK did use them eg http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/rd/N14062522 http://www.bl.uk/pdf/playback20.pdf ( 1/2 way down )
  9. Decks - Sony QS models 930,940,980 blanks - are the any freecycler orgs where you you ask for free 2nd hand blanks
  10. I used to get most of mine at good prices at a little shop off Edgeware Rd Central London they only stocked media & accessories - you name it they had it cdr dvdr minidisc floppies tapes pen drives, memory cards all brands and colours in large quantities boxes comeing in all the time and just dumped on the ground at the foyer. Sadly this store now gone. One brand they got in large numbers was JVC Crystal Gold transparent coloured shells that I got a lot of they were also cheap in bought in bulk - Unlike many they came with decent cases that the discs didnt drop out of & worked well. I still have a few multi boxes of 10's unopened
  11. do u have the monitors yet? if so please asap tell use how it all works as I have for some time been thinking at the back of my mind for some thing like this but it hadnt got far. £130 for an small active speaker that sounds good could be just what I want. so please let us know
  12. they seem to have 2 phono plugs per xlr? u want just one per xlr? one for each speaker? your ones seem to be a "stereo"?!? I dont know how that plug works. some thing like this ? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Accu-Cable-Phono-Plugs-Adapter/dp/B002YMQXBM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1413893827&sr=8-5&keywords=xlr+to+phono+adapter but u need to spend a bit of money for some good cable? or 2 of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-XLR-Male-Phono-Socket/dp/B000LARWZK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1413893827&sr=8-4&keywords=xlr+to+phono+adapter I would prob go for them, as the cable with yours or the one above prob not much good? by the way this sort of thing can be got from Maplins, if u have a store near you - will cost a bit more though.
  13. well while u are at it put in some bits from an apple ipod - there must be lots 0f them floating around and deserve to be gutted - or do the reverse, put an atrac chip in an ipod and create a sensation! You can called it a minipod lol
  14. do u have a reballing machine - I dont.and to get it of clean with out damage. I think time to get rid of this md crap lol
  15. hmm cd text. Am I right in thinking that to copy cd text does require coax input than optical?
  16. I bet the chip have 10's of tiny legs to unsolder - rather you than me
  17. well I do do is sort of relevent. Thanks for this , I didnt know it existed. I take it the person who originally packed the ultimate SS not around any more to redo the driver?
  18. I do know about that problem. I thought was a burden we had to accept? I was only going to use a NH600. So there is a "universal driver" that solves that? I didnt know that. where is it?
  19. just a quick note - it installs and seems to work with no problems ( 32 bit Windows 8.1) Not bad for such an old bit of software. A good reason to go 32 bit on atleast one pc
  20. well since Sony had the Control A11 interface that does all that you want, they prob didnt want to make it too easy to use a non Sony cd player? Not sure about at the end it goes on recording 3 second tracks of nothing? I think it goes into record pause. I seem to remember reading some where not a good thing to allow as it wears out the heads - but that may have been for a certain deck only.I ll have to try that tonight.
  21. apart from smart space. The option you really want I think is a Sony CD player that has the Control A11 interface that does all that. if u look on the back of the md deck u will see the 2 jack plug type sockets. Then the controls on the cd player controls the md. Also I cant really remember whether what you want only works thru coax digital & not optical ( or the other way around ) if i can find my manual I will have a look see
  22. yes now the LP obsession is some thing to be worried about. I "only" have about 400 or so now and the boxes they take up and have to shift if/when I move is not something I like to think about - & the fire risk of all that plastic. some dealers I know have rooms of the things. If you want a justification then think of MD as some thing to have to compare the latest devices by and see if they are that much better in practice. 10 years from now. The only thing that negates md is the (pathetic) capacity of the discs. But regarding portables all of mine use AA batteries and could be running when the latest lithium powered devices have dead irreplaceable batteries? -look at how the tablet market is going? they are all stuck to gether with GLUE not screws!, you are only MEANT keep them, for 2-3 years lol. I dont know about you I just cant afford that purchase scheme.
