    Almost ready!

You've used the unit? So it is compatible with the 40elk and all 3 lines work? The guy from mdcenter.nl said it didn't work properly. In that case, then it is a pretty good unit. Although it should still have a jog dial on the unit.

Keep in mind a few things. The RH1 is not all its cracked up to be. Are you looking for a player or a recorder first? Because if you're looking for a player first, the rh1 is a terrible choice. It has no jog dial, a 1 line screen, and is not compatible with the rm-mc40elk (which is the only jog dial remote). I would recommend going for the rh10 easily over the rh1. Plus the rh10 has a AA attachment.

Depends on your needs and how much your willing to spend. I love my rh10, the OLED display itself is worth so much. But keep in mind that it does scratch very easily and requires much care. The nh900 does has more features and requires less care. Your choice, both have their advantages.
  4. In the mind of someone looking for a player the loss of a jog dial and a small screen is unacceptable.
  5. Volta here's my exact reply from the other thread, as it implies the same thing here too: I know HiMD is great for recording and that this unit is obviously aimed for at recording but what I like about past units (like my rh10) is that you have options. The recording features are there if you need them, but so is great playback. HiMD targeted both recording and playback needs perfectly with past models. This one only recording and nothing for playback. Sony should have kept it half and half. But that's why there is the rh10, which is far better than any ipod (god I hate ipods). I love MD and will never leave the format, it's essential to me, I just wish sony would not target only recording and continue to target both recording and playback like they have done in the past. Hopefully the 3rd gen will have more than just the rh1.

  7. Personally, I feel the rh1 is a huge step in the wrong direction and will prevent users from coming to the format.
  8. Ok, lets put aside all the joy that Hi-MD is going to have a third gen. It's great that sony is keeping the format alive, but lets look at the unit itself, it has severe flaws, it is definitely no dream machine. 1. No Jog Dial - Probably the best thing sony has ever put onto the minidsic player, how does sony expect us to browse through hundreds of songs and find the one we want? Pressing the next button constantly is NOT acceptable. I still can't figure out why this was ommitted. 2. 1 line OLED Display - 1 line? Give me a break, sony went from a 3 line to a 6 line to a 1 line. So now there is no jog dial and a small screen. Oh maybe it's an advancement to the nh1 and can use the 40ELK? Not, read on. 2. Not compatible with RM-MC40ELK - Now matters are worse. Not even is there not a jog dial on the unit and small screen, but now you can't even use a remote with a jog dial and big screen. I first thought this unit was gonna be the advancement of the nh1 and use the 40ELK to make up for the small screen and lack a jog dial, but with this remote not compatible, there is no way to browse through hundreds of songs quickly or have a bigger screen. 4. No AA attachment - Only compatible with rechargable batteries and the max battery life is 19 hours. Sony's MD units use to always be the highest in battery life, 56 hours at one time in regular MD. Hi-MD was still very nice with up to 35 hours on some units. But with no AA attachment, that is not possible here. So all in all, this unit is most certainly not a "dream-machine" as it lacks the most basic and essential things that all Hi-MD units require. Again, it's great that sony is keeping MD alive, but they really screwed up with this unit and I hope there are more 3rd gen units than just the RH1, one that has all the essential features if they hope to gain more users. IMO, the rh10 is still the best hi-md unit out there, by far too, sony got it right with that one.
  9. A friend of mine is buying an nh600d and wants a remote. He is being outbid on ebay on the 38EL and wants to try for the 51EL, is it completely compatible with the nh600d? If not, what functionality is lost?
  10. I only use MD for playback too and agree with you. I own an RH10 (was able to get it for $30 in an exchange) but in reality, most people will have to pay over 250 bucks for it. If sony came out with some rh10-like units with no recording features at say, $150, that would be a good plan. MZ-RH10D anyone?
  11. Really? That's stunning. Anyone know if a radio remote will work for the rh10?
  12. Hey, that's one nice unit you won, and for free I don't blame you. Stick around though, its a sony walkman and uses atrac, close enough.

    **April Fools**

Yes, please take this news down, its gonna scare people away from the format.
  14. Call sony back, I'm pretty sure they have to repair it again if it broke only 3 months after a repair. I recommend trying an exchange though, that way you get a nice new 600D with no problems. (Heck, when the jog dial broke on my 600D after 5 months of use, I got it exchanged for a new rh10 for only 30 bucks!)
  15. My RH10 even after only being in its pouch and only having it for a week, has numerous scartches, including noticable ones on the display. I'm going to buy brasso and apply it to remove the scratches and then place a screen protector over it. Will any old pda screen protector work? Is there a certain size to fit the rh10? And will I have to cut it up to make it fit over all the buttons? I just want to get my rh10 back to no scratches and then keep it that way, just looking for some tips from current people with experience of scratches and the rh10.

    Just a thought

Same here, I never record, but just love removable media and the whole idea of minidiscs. I use my rh10 as a player only and won't be purchasing the rh1 because the lack of a jog dial and a smaller screen, it is obviously a recording unit.
  17. While that does look promising, the 1 line display and lack of a jog dial is keeping me away from getting it. But glad to see sony is keeping the format alive. Return of the minidisc!
  18. I'm trying to remove scratches from my new RH10 (the whole front, not just the screen). I own the black US version. Anyone have any experience with brasso and know if it's good for removing scratches on the rh10? After seeing this: http://todd.dailey.info/archives/2005/09/2...-can-of-brasso/ it really made me less skeptical. Do the nano and rh10 have the same surface? Edit: This also looks promising http://blog.corbino.org/archives/000219.html
  19. Haha, in that case I'll leave it alone. Strange how the rh10 scratches so easily, but it's still by far the best MD unit I've ever seen.
  20. I've had my rh10 for a few days now and love it. Way better than my 600D, but the entire screen is scratched pretty bad already and I always keep it in its protective case. Does the toothpaste method work on the rh10? And the whole thing, not just the screen.
  21. Damn, guess I'll just have to be careful with my NiMH battery.
  22. There's been a long argument on this. Some say that it does work with it, others say it doesn't because it doesn't fit. But if it does fit, the radio function will not work.
  23. I just bought a RH10 recently (US version) and it comes with a crappy RM-MC60. Look for a RM-MC33EL, you can probably find one cheap.
