  1. That guy was full of BS , Stereo Boom mics add realism to an image , He has absolutely no Idea what he is talking about . Did you listen to the samples I posted? The Baroque Quintet was over 25 feet from the Mic I had the mic Above the crowd 1 foot from the ceiling center of the Back wall of the room. That is what a Boom image would be like with the AT -822 , .....The idea of a stereo mic not working for a boom mic is a misconception , The only thing on the side of a mono mic is to completely isolate the voice in question , If you have two people talking and there is seperation between them ,If you dont have the same seperation between them in the audio as you do in the Image , it is going to come off as unnatural B&H wanted to sell something they had in stock , not what they would have to order Check FullCompass that is the only company that I will deal with as a 3rd party if I am not holding the item I want in my hands at a store. http://www.fullcompass.com
  2. Aggrevating the Coffee drinkers .....now THAT would be excessive ROTF>>>>
  3. You Mean 3032 right ?

  5. Went to Hardoff again today. Bought a Sony CD D-NE820 Atrac,Text,MP3 Capable CD player we (the whole family was there) Also bought two CD's Sowelu , A new Japanese R&B Artist who is actually pretty good , and a good American group " FireHouse" Best of done Acoustically including the Original version of Seven Bridges Road( It was NOT an Eagles tune ,it was written by Firehouse) Just a quick update , The CD player just Successfully played a cd that had become unplayable by every player in my home, Including My Macbook. The CD in Question was Free Flight "Slice of Life" , that had been given to me by Jim Walker the Leader of the group , It has been PROPERLY digitized onto MD To NEVER AGAIN be tainted by my 12 year olds gritty fingeres( He is responsible for the CD not being playable) YAY!!!!!!!!
  6. The price of the 2021 cant be beat , they are stripped down versions of a much nicer mic , ( Low cut , Polarity , 10db switch removed) The 3032 's are a litlle more money , but the Phantom comes down to 11 volts (11-52 rated) which means a battery powered phantom will work fine, http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mi...e27e/index.html I have heard these mics in critical situations and they are very flexible , Low cut ,10 db , etc included ( The upscale version of the 2021) There are quite a few field recordist that are equiped soley with a pair of these and Phantom box or Flash based recorders with XLR inputs . there are plenty of DIY phantom boxes available I can help you put one together PM me about it I find the info. My three favs are Beyer Dynamic Studio mics , Audio Technica Studio , And Sennheisers , The AKG 's always leave me feeling a bit gouged for what they do , they are nice , but I can get as good a sound for a lot less. Senneiser ...You get what you pay for . Beyer is the same I have done a few CD's with just the Beyers and good pre's and was very happy .(But I was using quite nice Beyers . ) For the budget versions of Beyer the M201tg and 200 , are Dynamic not condenser so they dont need Phantom but the could use the Preamp or a portable mixer to get the best out of them , ( I havent tried them direct to MD so I dont know how they would react , but I imagine with the Sony mic pre in the MD it would be pretty nice .) http://www.beyerdynamic.com/cms/Studio_mic...uctdatabase_pi1[showUid][showUID]=12&tx_sbproductdatabase_pi1[showUid][backPID]=42&cHash=56968b4ffb If your going to spend 1000 dollars get this (Beyer MCE82)
  7. They have two sections , The stuff they have checked out and know that it works ( that stuff does have a 3 month garauntee) then the Junk section , which is at your own risk, The XR5 was an OK machine , Use a Lo to HI imp transformer on the mic input and it didnt sound bad at all. I like the fact that it DOES NOT have logic controls , but it has mechanical , once the logic chips go there isnt anything to do but get it fixed, but the XR5 is belts and gears , a little inginuity and you can fix it yourself ( I know I did) How much did it cost you ?
  8. Call them and have them order it before you get there, and you will need an 1/8 stereo extension cable (headphone cable extension) because the supplied cable might be a little short . Here is what is sounds like on an MD withe a Barouque Quintet http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?act=A...ost&id=2313 Here is what it sounds like withe big taiko drums ( Of course you have to drastically change the settings) http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?act=A...ost&id=2315
  9. The CK91 is part of the "Blue Line "series they have interchangeable capsules . You Definately want a preamp to conrrol those , but they ae very nice , The are better instrument mikes than field mics . IE. Good quiet room , nice preamp , (Joe Meek pre is very nice on those) If you want outdoor or portable try a pair of C451 's they will also need Phantom power but they arent as susceptable to the issues of the CK's The CK91's are flat 20hz-20khz and very smooth , but I dont think you need to go that high in price for what your after (Just depends on How cheap your getting them!!!!!) I like AKG , but if you dont have a decent pre with them , its not what you might think. it should come with this preamp/handleSB300 here is a link to the data sheet http://www.akg.com/mediendatenbank2/psfile...55c224ac90f.pdf For a lot less money try these http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/.../SP-AT2021-PAIR
  10. OK 30 views and nobody cracks on how the iPod circuit is serving the MD ,
  11. The Audio Technica AT- 822 ,I just luv this mic , and I have tried a lot of mics , but its a perfect match for the MD
  12. In the cell phone dept .I found this . it will not charge from dead battery state , but from 20% or so left on the MD it will kik the charger. Its output is only 300 ma but it is 5.1 volts . in the 4th pic you will see the time on the MD 6 hours 51minutes. on the battery pack After_F7_Run.bmp
  13. You didnt read his post properly , he said , that people tend to forget ,that an item can BE BOUGHT CHEAPER somewhere else , so indeed Caveat Emptor
  14. The stuff in Hardoff changes to fast for them to post pics, It is a Recycle Shop chain ( Think REALLY BIG indoor yardsale here) Each of the Hard offs run on a different system so none of them communicate with each other , That keeeps things interesting. You will see different prices from store to store , and different items , its a big treasure hunt .
  15. US repakaged for Japanese Market Columbia , CBS, They put extra Japanese Liner notes A couple were Japanese The Steve Miller was Original US

  18. Turn the unit on , with a disc in it and leave it on till the battery goes completly dead, then turn it on again reaoeatedly til it will not turn on anymore (Complelty Dead Battery) let it sit for awhile take the disc out , charge it back up , put a different disc in it. Try it ad see if it helps.
  19. Right now Vista is so full of bugs that if ANYTHING works with it its a miracle, watch CNET check their website daily (I do ) offen they are first to notify when updates are needed ,(I get the news about Apple updates from them , way before Apple says anything) They have been running a series of articles about Vista itself and there have been a LOT of problems. Sorry to hear about yours, my empathy .
  20. Now that gets my respect , As a crafstman My customers satisfaction is my only reward cause I dont really get paid enough for what I do. GQ if you still have his invoice or info just go ahead and send the Half of it to him or to his account , he will notice it.
  21. And then you moved to OREGON?????????
  22. This has to do with the conversion of the HiMDLp to wav , Everybody hold on and do a little math with me here. 1.05946 What does this number have to do with anything? This is the Standard reference for the division of twelve tones in an Octave, ............and its wrong! At current standard 440hz = A .. easy to divide and multiply 110 , 220 , 440, 880, etc But if you take 1.05946 start at 110 and mutiply up (answ*1.05946= answ*1.05946=answ* you get the idea) It will not be 880 ... you will come to a difference of just over a cycle. This is ok in music/sound, the ear doesn't differentiate that much , but with sound linked to images it is a whole different story. When the conversion in the Software takes place , there IS , a very subtle difference in the Cycles that add up over time ie. the longer the recording the more noticable it will be. If the video and the Audio are not coded at exactly the same frame rate , you will have to stretch/compress one or the other That is tricky because now your dealing with percentages, what Percentage do you stretch /compress to exactly equal the other part . In this particular venture instead of recording in HiMDLP you would HAVE to record in PCM and change discs very quickly ( Not a good option , The way the video industry does this is use a Hardrive chain, with a Transfer device from your Audio Connection Direct conversion to digital at a specified bit Rate that will match the Cameras frame rate And a Time Code Sync to KEEP them together . There has recently been a Consumer version of something like that made. http://www.ikey-audio.com/ikeyplus.htm Link to the Video http://www.ikey-audio.com/videos.htm Use that with a preamp for the Mic , when you import the Audio It wont be import Just connect the Hardrive to your Computer. All the Audio will be there and in Sync You attach and power a USB drive to this thing , set its sample rate ,Recording level , and let it go .Then when your done , Attach the same drive to the computer ,Import the video to the computer .Adjust the position of the audio in relation to the video Make your movie
