The Low Volta
I'm currently listening to a 1gig disc with 8 (4x2) hours of a Belgian radio show called "Duyster" (named after the female presenter Ayco Duyster, but 'duister' also means 'dark' in dutch) taped from the Studio Brussel (=the radio station)-site ...select "luister"(= 'listen') on the left this will open an internet radio-application, select programma's (= programs) and scroll down to "Duyster"this show brings you "een programma vol tomeloze weemoed en oorverdovende zoetheid. Rustig maar ongedurig." or "a program full of unbridled melancoly and ear-splitting sweetness. tranquil but restless." Mostly they play dark/melacholic singer songwriter stuff, things like 'Low' or 'Anthony and the Johnsons',... but they frequently go towards soundscapes and instumental postrock like 'mogwai', 'explosions in the sky' and even were brave enough to play an entire track from 'Godspeed you black emperor!' (24min)... so anyone with a touch of melancholy and a drive to know the unknown in music...check this outGreetings, VoltaPS: I tape it by playing the webradio on highest quality 96kbps, and recording through Audacity (from the stereo mixer)... quality isn't top, but as it sounds like a radio program it is ok... and when you discover something great...just go and buy the record, you'll support the artist and not some record company, as most of these artists aren't signed by any major

dvallere
Disc inside, attached to the PC, is my new miscellaneous rock mix where I download stuff I liked when I was a kid. Def Leppard, Bowie, Petty, Pretenders, some more modern stuff I can't think of. Oh, Semisonic, stuff like that.Disc in the car, the miscellaneous rock mix made in 1998, which strangely contains a lot of '60s and '70s hits.In my car CD drive I have the sountrack to the Sonic Heroes videogame and that really rocks. We listen to it at least once a week.

Mr_Bass_Man
A whole bunch of albums by Rush.I bought an MD unit (I think it might have been the E33) off a guy on EBay, and loads of MDs came with it.He offered to erase them, I said "No thanks, I'll listen to some of your stuff".I don't really enjoy "Drum n' Bass" stuff, nor "Ibiza Anthems", but hey, the guy is a Rush fan, and they're pretty damn good.Possibly a little "clean" and "over produced" for my taste these days, but nevertheless they're a class act.My younger son plays the drums, and he is most impressed with their drummer ... L7R
Neil Peart is A Drummer God!Maybe you could try Porcupine Tree. It's only band what I know, which came close to Rush. Their two newest albums are really, relly good. In Absentia (2002) & Deadwing (2005). They are really good musicians too, imho.Currently listening Apocalyptica - Reflections. Mr_Bass_Man
Yep, L7R you are right about Mr Peart.I've downloaded a couple of Porcupine Tree tracks from the web - "Lazarus" and "Collapse the light into Earth" and haven't really made the connection yet with Rush, but I'll persist.Rush to my ears are rather reminiscent of Yes, albeit with fewer synth layers. The Rush recordings are all good old SP, BTW (the E33 is SP only), now listening to "Retrospective" on my NH900 with the cans on as the rest of the family are asleep.Just got in from doing a gig with my band, letting the adrenalin subside before I hit the hay . . . L7R
PT has those slow and melancholic songs little like pink floyd, too (which I like, as a fan of pink floyd)These two are not very good songs and these both songs are NOT nearly like rush. How did you happened to choose these two? I think best connect when compared rush and PT is that both bands members are really good musicians and song intonations are very complicated on both bands. Of course PT members aren't THAT good as Peart or Geddy Lee but in my mind, both bands share some same characteristics. Melodical but complex, in the same time. PT is more melancholic than rush with those quiet and "low spirit" songs, of course.I think porcupine trees two latest albums are more like Rush than their earlier albums. As I'm from Finland and english is not may native language , so I really don't listen lyrics much, so there could be a difference too.I found PT just few months ago, when they released Deadwing. I immediately bought In Absentia and was really surprised that there's another band in the world, who sounds good AND plays good. Like Rush (or Pink Floyd or Yes)!Happy listening! btw. Here are few PT songs which reminds me of Rush. These are from In Absentia:Wedding nails (!)Sound of Muzak (!).3The creator has a mastertape (!)Strip the SoulDrown with meBlackest eyes (!)from Deadwing (these are maybe more straightforwarded than songs on "in absentia" or rush songs but good, imho):ShallowHaloOpen CarStart of something beautifulDeadwing Edited July 31, 2005 by L7R

mrsoul
Currently here at work on the RH910: Emmylou Harris's Wrecking Ball (1995) and a mix of Lucinda Williams and Emmylou on the rest of the MD. At home on the MZ-S1: I have been on a Phil Lesh and friends kick lately. I have 2 shows on 2 different MDs in LP2 that I got from http://www.archive.org from the 2001 shows: 4-19 and 8-4. Gotta love that Jimmy Herring and Warren Haynes combo. One of the best "jam bands" with tons of energy that the post mid 80's Dead lacked...I guess the 10 year anniversary of Jerry Garcia's passing had something to do with that since I again watched the Grateful Dead Movie on DVD in 5.1 on Monday with a smile on my face I saw the Dead 39 times in the 80's and 90's. Still miss old Jerry, especially in the summer. Also, yesterday was the 3rd anniversary of Mike Houser's passing (Widespread Panic), saw them about 50 times in the same period (my "hippie" years as my family calls them). A solemn week for me and other fans. But, I have tons of shows that still give me chills and put that smile on my face. Well, sorry to drift off subject but that's what's been on my mind and in my MDs this week...
