Google Ads on Minidisc.org

Starting today we will be adding Google adsense banners to the website. We apologize to our loyal following for this additional intrusion. The Google ads are an attempt to sustain advertising revenue without being overly invasive. Minidisco is still our primary sponsor and we thank them kindly for that. The adsense banners appear on all pages, as a single banner across the top. Your comments are welcome. -Eric Woudenberg

It's surprising to hear "The Minidisc format seems to have entered twilight," Eric, considering the phenomenal growth at Minidisc Community Forums over the past couple years, as I learn reading the 187 Replies and udates in "[Forum] Announcements > The Forum Now Has More Than 52,000 Registered Users." Is there some new development? I ask because you seem to be saying the format has just entered twilight. No problem with a Google banner as far as I'm concerned.

Nah, don't worry about it Karl - the webmaster must work at a Sony Store or something...

I think it's officially time to start cutting and pasting the information on the site that we individually want to keep for the future...

Even, as the minidisc.org site enters it's twilight, sometimes sites like this stay on for years as a great resource of information. But, then, out of the blue, they usually go "poof". Let's all make sure we archive the information individually we feel we will need while the site is in hospice.

Good luck to everyone who was involved in starting this site all those years ago. It's been a great run.

Even, as the minidisc.org site enters it's twilight...

Was this said for effect to justify the google ads or...?

Who knows.

As far as I can tell there's no twilight of the site (judging by how many people are browsing at any one time). Format. Maybe. Unless people have just stopped buying from sponsors and ad revenue has experienced downward pressure, I'm personally doubting it.

Edit: ah, the original post has been edited.

well, while the google ads are not that disturbing to me, I can't see much other things being added to the site in at least last 6 months or so. the last period of having brought a lots of interesting news was the last spring/summer's RH1 releasing madness. is it really so, that there is nothing going on? isn't it possible to get more info from sony about the future, alternatives, ecc. like this the interest in the site will slowly fade away. at least for me. and, oh!, all this dead isn't dead thing all the time! for me a site is dead if there's no new useful information on it, with or without ads. :buba:

How much are they paying? :pleasantry:

OK, you probly won't tell us that.

The ads aren't too obnoxious. Atleast they don't follow you as u scroll down the page.

You know what sucks, tho? That stupid 'gracenote' icon on the upperleft hand corner of my Sonicstage screen. Anyone know how to get that off? I don't even use it...
