Followup: looks like this is the right one, 0.3l not 0.14l http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/usa/html/onlineshop/rub/b00_3litreOrg.php And here: http://www.staples.ca/en/Really-Useful-Boxes-03-L-Organizer-Pack-16-Boxes-Pack-Clear/product_325906_2-CA_1_20001 So not really anyone's fault, merely a bad link. These ones really do fit, I just got 'em at the local store. With cases, they hold 9x16

Whoops, there's something wrong here. I just took delivery of two of these very nice items... but no way they are big enough to hold an MD, I think. Did I make a mistake or did OP? These are clearly labelled 0.14l capacity boxes. To make matters worse, one of the two arrived busted. Grrrrrr..... bad company at work, methinks. The linked-to boxes are exactly the same size as what I bought, and do not fit MDs at all. The stated dimensions are 11" W x 8-13/16" D x 2-17/32" H. I checked and this appears to be accurate. So I think OP may have posted a bad link. In any event DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.

I'm almost tempted to purchase men.net (no, it's not in use) so I could have the address mad@men.net

I wasn't joking.

Sent you an email - I think the culprit is most likely a security option from someone or some program attempting to harden your system against attack. Probably User Account Control (UAC). We shall see.

error 320 and 330 need help formatting vaio laptop with vista
sfbp replied to ashkroft123's question in Vaio
It's bad because it sounds suspiciously like you have hardware failure. So nothing works except a visit to the repair shop and a restore from backup. (you did make a backup, right?) -
You must live very close to GCHQ - and might ask them if they installed something on your machines, LOL. The fact you cannot install on either machine suggests very strongly that something you (or someone else!) put on there in common is responsible.

Some of the stuff MSFT had to do to kill (known) exploits is really really annoying. The withdrawal of Windows Help lies pretty high on that list.

These are also available from amazon.ca and amazon.com. Quite the find, thanks! http://www.amazon.com/Realuse-0-14L-Really-Useful-Organiser/dp/B004VRQF7A Read last post. This is definitely NOT suitable for MDs

Default is Automatic Updates ON. The only decent version is the one from here. But you seem to have hit some problem where something gets disabled. I'm guessing that either Automatic Updates or Windows Defender (Microsoft's built in scanner) is killing it. I have both turned off! I'm not sure what to advise at present. Let's see if I can sort out the Vista problem first. But I have SS working on several Win7 machines. Something your machine runs routinely must be disabling it, methinks. Sorry (for now). Stephen

When you say "it worked brilliantly for two days" how much did you exercise? NetMD? You must load the 64-bit driver, then. What happened in the interim? Are you on automatic updates? Can you do System restore to the point before you d/l'd SS?

We may be getting down to the wire (I sent you an email too). This ghostscript install concerns me, I flashed briefly by something saying it may be a vector for malware, just as some versions of Acrobat can be. Can you remove it?
-
OK. That's not it then. Create another user also administrator, log in to it, and try to run setup.exe. What happens?
-
Ah,.... that's not how you set your user to admin. You need to use control panel, and look at User Accounts. This is what it looks like under W7: It's similar under XP, but I don't have a copy of Vista that works.

The /NoUI switches are suppressing the system from showing you anything (on your screen) when you run SetupSS.exe Can you confirm that if you execute the setup.exe in sonicstagessenglish that it doesn't prompt you? Here's what mine looks like (i.e. it DOES prompt u): I'm sorry my instructions for editing the PATH variable were lousy. Did you find that dialog box? The PATH variable is in the System Variables box (the lower of 2 in that dialog) and you have scroll it to find. There's a button labelled "Edit.." there which will do what you want. I think you have to put WINDOWS (x3) path entries before the Delphi stuff. Not sure why. I take that back, sorry. I looked on this machine (that I'm typing on) and Embarcadero's stuff is, like yours, ahead of the 3 windows entries. Maybe this is a false trail, don't worry about it for now. However I still think one of those many path entries is the key to all of this. Stephen

Still no confirmation that your user is running at elevated privilege to start with. Sorry to nag. You fix PATH and other environment variables in the system properties dialog box. Right click my computer and select properties then the Advanced tab. I have a suspicion you may be finding another setup.exe somehow. You might want to try renaming all the ones you can find to xetup.exe or setup.exx. Oh yes, try deleting as much as possible from that temp directory.

Looking through a recent .MSI log for something else (The SS installer uses MSI), I noticed an interesting entry: Machine policy value 'DisableUserInstalls' is 0 When I said run as administrator, I literally meant that. Not RunAs administrator for the individual program. I mean probably your user HAS to be an administrator, at least to run the install. It may well be that some overly helpful anti-malware program somehow made sure that you are not an admin. Or you yourself. I have often encountered things that Windows could not do when the user was a normal user without admin privileges, even though it is claimed to work. On Home Premium this may mean calling yourself a Power User or something like that. I do not have a Home Premium to try. The problem is that each sub-install has to be marked RunAs Administrator, or run by hand. I am wondering if you run the setup.exe down inside the unpacked tree (just as I described), using RunAs administrator, whether it suddenly works.

One more thing. You might want to try double clicking the setup.exe file (the one for SS alone) from another user. I know this might create other problems but it would at least explain what's happening without you having to mess with the PATH, some of which will be local to your user, as opposed to global.

Quote: You tried to install SonicStage via the executable in the map/directory to where the downloadfile is unpacked. (sorry my ips editor failed, losing keyboard characters for something strange) Good point, Kalkie. However I did the exact same thing and it worked.

You're obviously a developer. So why not get rid of absolutely everything you can from the PATH statement? The entries which concern me are: a. Roxio b. IsoBuster (I don't know what it is) c. Java d. Powershell Also the fact that the borland stuff is at the BEGINNING ie before the 3 Windows entries. IMO the original Windows entries should be first of all in path. Putting things ahead of them may be dangerous. I have Borland on an XP machine which has the WINDOWS entries at the beginning and it works fine in every respect. You may be able to simplify by checking on the other machine - anything which isn't on both can be crossed off the "actionable" list. But I would be inclined to simplify that path statement. For now. I didn't ask you for TEMP/TMP but you might want to check they point somewhere reasonable.

Do you still get the failure where it complains about the registry key for the N505? I sure hope you didn't unplug it (your MD unit) and move it to the other machine when installing - that would definitely be an operator error. Failure to run something as simple as a setup program suggests malware. When I start the setup for the ss program I at least get a prompt saying "welcome to Sonic Stage 4.3 installation". There's a free Kaspersky version. one time something like this happened I managed to prevail. It spotted something that no other program did. You could look at your path (environment variables, start by entering command.com, type "PATH" and then tell us the result). What do you routinely put on machines when installing? Apart from stuff from the manufacturer and msft? Is the computer joined to a domain? Are you permanently connected to some vpn? I don't think you need Sony to be there. But at some point the keys can get auth'd when one does a restore. I suppose traces of an old ss might invoke the restore function. That would mean you'd have had to install a very old version of ss or omgjbox on both machines. Try running omg2oma.exe (from the same place as you found the ss install setup). Another thing. Are your machines localised to something other than English? Welsh, is that possible? I saw only English.dll in some places in the tree. Probably it picks the right one initially without consulting you. If you had it set to something unusual it might just be confused later on.

Ok. Look in dllcache and see if there's a setup.exe there. You can safely delete anything in dllcache. Best to reboot after. There's a thought... what happens when u dblclick setup in safe mode? Does it at least go through the motions?
