You could take a look at the schematic. You'll find, I think, a quad clock circuit (176.4 kHz).

Makes one wonder if entrenched business interests caused that piece to be written. By no stretch of the imagination was MD a failure. It just didn't beat iPod.
-
Actually the ripping on Sonic Stage and/or some high quality decks may produce an MD that does sound better than playing on many CD decks. Not least because MD decks have very good DACs. But also because ATRAC is a 24 bit format.

Ahhhh... so maybe it has nothing to do with Windows per se but with how gracenote treats a fake drive in w8.1 Drive letter handling changed drastically in Vista. It's optional now, and old software doesn't know that. Have you had the dialog where SS "gets to know" the drive? My suggestion would be to put a REAL drive at the letter your virtual drive wants to be, introduce it to SS them remove the real drive and mount your fake one at that letter. Good luck... you're going to need it.

I wonder if Gracenote is wired to IP v.4? You might also check firewall settings. In the first instance turn the fw completely off.

A few bucks (50 or less). Thrown in for free with almost any device capable of recording.

This is getting a bit off topic.... but are you sure? I just peeked at the SM.

Don't forget that a "straight" wav file usually doesn't contain as much information as a real CD. So when software rips to a file the "compressed" result may contain more information than you might expect. Sony evem allows for this with various rip settings in SS (eg "high quality"). Unless the correct dithering is done, ripping to 16 bits wav and then compressing to ATRAC may sound funny. This artifact may even be (IMO) why it lost out to MP3 in listening tests designed to be "fair". All the formats we are considering here are effectively better than 16 bits. "Freezing" as 16 without the proper manipulation may result in quality loss. Just my $0.02

If you have Hi-MD (eg MZ-RH1) far and away the best way to convert FLAC will be using Sound Forge 10. I have a feeling SF9 doesn't support FLAC. This will do a file to file conversion. If, as suggested, you go via WAV, you may lose information and make the conversion muddy.

If it's blank I'd throw it out before somehow the mould gets spread around. If there were music on there I could see a problem worth fixing. Sorry for your loss.

It's not that it's against our rules.... but please do not do this. Everyone reads everything. To be honest, it's not all that likely you will find an RH1. Better to wait until someone offers one for sale. Thanks.
-
It's not that. Everyone here reads everything. So no need to repeat yourself in a bunch of old threads. Welcome.

Can you read the Windows directory of the disk?
-
Please stop spamming the board.

This is not clear. Some USB chargers seem to work significantly better than others.
-
Except you'll never get more than 5V outta USB
-
Sorry misunderstood. If all you need is the round socket with 6V supplied with power, why not order a proper 6V power supply?
-
No good for NH1, Philippe. I guess Jeff's concern is whether, when connected via the proper supplied USB cable, NH1 can charge. I honestly don't recall and I cannot get to my NH1 to test.
-
Indeed. He says it plays DVDs. I totally realise that's a different laser frequency but... the common thing with BD is that they read data but refuse to play movies. The signature condition is that you can see a windows directory but cannot play movies.

What an item for his 1st eBay transaction!?

Who said anything about firmware? There must be other reasons/mechanisms for encryption failure. AFAIK (content) manufacturers keep changing the algorithms via the dynamically loaded program stored on the BD. I'd be inclined to give DVDFab a shot. I bought a laptop BD drive aftermarket .... and no way was it going to work until I got software to defeat the encryption (it was the right unit for that laptop). Sort of like when you buy a replacement faceplate for a car head unit -the manufacturer locks them to force you to pay the big bucks to their dealership (actually it's supposed to be to discourage theft, which it probably does). The 8 months you mention sounds more like a certificate expiry than actual use monitoring.
-
More likely they need updates to keep the encryption keys current. You probably need to connect to the Internet a few times per year.

Actually 2nd generation HiMD's DO charge from USB. RH1 (3rd gen) too.

Look for X-Application and Mora, the version you probably want is 5.3. As far as the NetMD goes, are you sure that's what you really want? The biggest problem these days is that current computers don't support NetMD at all, so we had to come up with driver packages for Windows 7 (works on 8). Richard? Edit: so as you don't miss Richard's post (below), I definitely got X-App working on XP. But that didn't help me much as my ability to read Japanese is non-existent, and the drivers I had at that time did NOT work on that computer (USB problem) with any device that X-App supported - so I gave up and took it off again.

No need for phono cable. Your RH1 will do the job perfectly. Recommend you pick 256kbps (HiSP) as the upload format, this is probably the default, in One thing, make sure you de-protect the resulting files using the File Conversion Tool. If you are running Vista, W7 or W8 64-bits, you will need the 64-bit driver rather than the 32-bit one that comes in the SS package.
