You may (unless you are running 32-bit Windows) need to install the 64-bit NetMD driver to get access to the SP disks.
-
333nt and n707 No issues though I think netmd tracks' titles are frozen after transfer FROM pc.

..... mais sans minidisque. This guy's face looked familiar, maybe he's the next Snowden?
-
Interesting that it copies MDLP! Looked up, that software may be called AC-20D (sounds like update!). But no manual I could see, yet, except the fact sheet on the MDCF website.
-
Try normal instead of high speed synch. So it's playing as you record.
-
Ohhhhhhhh. I jumped too quick. Sorry for that, when you said it goes through the motions assumed that you could see the ticking clock as it recorded, and everything looked fine except at the end there was no recording. So you can record something (else) and then take the disk out, and then put the disk back in, and the recording is there? I'm very surprised there was no "Cannot copy" or some such message/error code. Perhaps there was but you didn't notice it. If it's really protected then you have an SCMS problem. The only way to do it now is by analogue. Should happen automatically, sigh. Worst case, you can fool it by playing the disk on another unit and using an analog connection from that into your MD recorder. You won't be able to do it digitally. Since it's a web rip perhaps it won't be all that high quality to start with in which case it doesn't matter..... (There's a way round SCMS but it will cost you a few hundred dollars mostly likely, some pro-oriented gear that gets rid of the protection). I get the sense maybe you are using terms a bit loosely. Perhaps what you need to do is describe exactly the steps you took. What exactly is the recording source (a physical CD?), and how did you get it? The 373 plays only regular CD's, correct? (So it's not that these are MP3 tracks that you got from online, right?) What buttons on the 373 did you push exactly? What showed up on the display of the MD unit as the recording took place? Sony always felt they had a responsibility to prevent you from making "unauthorized" copies of music - yet they sold all this gear allowing you copy music. So there are lots of restrictions to convince you and them (and the worlds of lawyers) that you're not doing anything you shouldn't.

The JE510 is, IMHO, the one and only deck not worth fixing. There are lots available. JE520 for starters. Also decks with MDLP such as JE640, JB940, and some with Type-S processing (you may not care if you only need SP recordings since the improvements are for MDLP). Give up, use for parts.
-
It's bust. You need someone to repair it. Sorry. PS by all means check by recording from some other source but I don't think this has anything to do with copy protection.
-
well, now you could settle down and make a set of alignment disks. Seems kinda pointless if you only have one unit, because if it croaks during alignment you've actually gone backwards As to the OLED power supply that is going to take some research (and not even sure I am capable). The rumour is that they suddenly die, just as yours did.
-
I think it's 1931 needs to be FF. Does anyone else remember? Probably yours is set to 00.
-
I cannot fix the OLED. Unless the power supply (adjustment) suddenly sprang a leak - In this case, unless it can be adjusted (always possible some potentiometer contact went dry) I can't do much either. Fine repairman I am ;( You can try skipping the alignment. If all you did was a "911" reset, it's possible to ignore it by tweaking one byte in NVRAM. You'd know soon enough provided you did your own testing with all available disk types. I can go either way. I would not charge you unless I succeed, and we could talk about that if/when I do. I sympathise,.... been there, done that. Your other option is Jim Hoggarth in the UK, but he has been rather backlogged, and you might wait half a year for the result. I am not certain, but I think that even he does not have OLEDs. Stephen

I'll keep looking. I found nothing last evening; previously I may have found something but even the user manual is in japanese, so it may well be Google won't actually find it. Probably we need some Japanese speaker to search Onkyo or Onyko-related websites. There's nothing on my old standby Elektrotanya. It's just possible this guy has 'em Hmmm that doesn't look right, supposed to be same as this: http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.geocities.jp/ks19561005/Others/ManualList_002.html&prev=search

Thought I'd add this here: does anyone have experience with the XItel DG2 in Windows 7? It works fine in XP with stock XP device support drivers, ie nothing special from Xitel. I have had a series of weird incidents. Currently the DG2 works on one computer but not another. But then at least twice I had it going on the second machine, only to have it revert to not working. The last time I got it going, I went in and deleted a bunch of "hidden" devices from Device Manager. At some stage I may have pointed the driver install at the other machine that works, but not convinced that was more than a coincidence. The Vendor ID (VID) is 09EF. The only device I could find listed (yes, I know there was an AN1) was PID 0101 for the DG2. Something weird is going on, and I wish I understood USB device installs better. When it works (and also when it doesn't) there are two devices showing up in the device map: 1. A "USB Composite Device" 2. "MD-PORT DG2" The problem appears to be with the second of these, and there's always a yellow exclamation glyph showing "not working". If you drill down into the device map, the error comes from "Code 10 - could not start". When it works, everything is the same except that the yellow indicator is missing. And then suddenly (at least 2 times) it worked - at least until the next time I turned on or rebooted (by "turn on" I mean open the lid) my laptop. I really hope someone out there can tell me what's going on. I could really use this device about now. Thanks. Footnote: someone seems to have done it here http://bbs.mydigit.cn/simple/?t651913.html However so far I haven't a clue what's going on. The thing about "neutral" caught my eye. Probably something to do with 32 bit drivers installed under X64.

I've looked for Svc manuals but you will certainly have to pay for. Also it's likely to be in Japanese since these HiMD decks were never made for export AFAIK, they are all 100V power supply, not 110 (or 220 or 230 converted down by half).

The problem with the 1GB is that when you connect to Windows there is "stuff" on it which, when Sonic Stage accesses it, makes things worse. Much worse. Without a working HiMD, I am afraid you're pretty much hosed. 2. Another approach is to completely ignore the alignment and hope that nothing got reset. That's a last minute desperation move. 3. is to see if someone can service it. Me for example. 4. follows after 3. and attempts to adjust voltages on the unit before something blows. But many people have said that OLED displays seems to have a habit of crapping out, without regard to anything else in the machine, so that might suggest #2. If there's nothing much wrong with it (ie it was never seriously abused) then at least you'll get it back with a dim display if we follow one of these.

You need a set of 3 disks. 1. A prerecorded (CD) disk... any 2. A so-called hybrid disk which is a legacy 74 or 80 minute reformatted to Hi-MD and filled with data. If you don't have another hiMD unit you may be out of luck here. 3. A 1Gb disk also filled with data. Note that the 1GB may "wear out". There are also problems if the disk is not virgin because of the way Sonic Stage keeps track deletion info even when the disk is erased or formatted. The clue is your empty disk needs to show exactly 961.9 MB of space. Where are you located?

You have to do an alignment. Sorry.

Installing Sonicstage on a new machine April 2014
sfbp replied to baz8755's topic in Software Updates
It works! Try to do some reading. I will leave a proper response here to someone whose German is better than mine Good luck! -
I set up SS on parallels on my brother in law's mac. No problem. But I didn't try installing NetMD drivers as it was a HiMD device. If you set walkman's disc mode to HiMD now no crashes until you insert a NetMD disk.

Try here http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/180572922 or: http://buyee.jp/item/search?query=BCA-WM20U Note: you don't have to read or write Japanese if you do it this way (and there are some other services too which may charge less per item). -
Nero works pretty good. Certainly the CDText turns up on all devices I have tried. If you put 000-,001-,002-,..... at front of names, Sonic Stage and other software is smart enough to delete the numbers when importing. Be sure to add leading zeroes so that they sort properly.

Link please.... I can't find it, sigh

eBay UK : SONY MDX 66XLP 6 MD CHANGER LONG PLAY MINIDISC
sfbp replied to PhilippeC's topic in Classifieds
Sorry to pour down rain on your fire, Philippe, but surely the best place to look is Yahoo Japan. This auction posted by you is overpriced IMO Check here, for example: http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/k180319642/lang/en/rc/yaucc -
Probably what happens is that the external battery gets charged by the internal instead of vice-versa
-
1. It runs fine 2. U must install 64-bit drivers as most people have 64-bit windows now, the install is for 32-bits. 3. Every HiMD unit is at least capable of being in NetMD mode. The moment you trick it into NetMD, your PC may crash, unless you have the NetMD drivers installed. It is as well to be prepared. Note that Windows will consider these drivers (on the site) to be unsigned, so you must turn off signing enforcement for long enough to get installation done. There are lots of posts on here about that. Just look for Windows 8 (using google please, the non-google search engine here is poor). 4. The ones it will not update are the HiMD drivers which are native to Windows. Yes you should probably start over. USB drivers in the XP box are notoriously unreliable. Nothing to be done, sort of like using a glove box in a chemistry lab, very hard to keep control of your fingers, if you take the metaphor. Good luck.
