  1. You must be doing something consistently that others don't do. Are you connected to the internet, I wonder? It may be there's some authentication step you don't realise. Thousands of people have downloaded the 64-bit drivers and are using SS with Windows 7 (having installed the exact same package as you). Did you unplug your MD (the error in your second logfile)? Another question: have you tried double-clicking on SetupSS.exe? Or sonicstagessEnglishsetup.exe? (for this you will need to have unpacked things a bit). Did you notice that SetupSS.ini mentions UNinstalling omg2.2?
  2. You definitely need to get rid of OMG2.2 But I think you will find if you check control panel, it should say OpenMG Secure Module 5.0.00 I'm becoming convinced this is simply a case of deleting something that is already on your computer. Less is more, if you will. I looked at the file. Could it be as simple as you haven't disconnected the MZ-N505?
  3. Stop right there..... who said OpenMG 2.2???? We should be up to 4.3 or even 5.0 if I remember correctly. What's its name?

    Problem in LCD TV

What's the rating of the TV in terms of what mains power it's supposed to be plugged into? What's the voltage of your actual mains? For example, Japan has 100V so if you bought the TV there, it may not run very well if voltage is 120V (USA/Canada) even though the plugs fit. I see you are in India, check that your TV is rated for 230V (I checked wikipedia so don't yell at me if wrong).
  5. Undoubtedly that program location is stored somewhere in the registry. One more thought before you begin - is there a custom uninstall program that was placed on your HD by Sony during installation of SS 2.2???? Run it. Thank you Sony, I found the string to D:sonicstageomgjbox.exe in at least 10 different places in my registry. So.... first you gotta uninstall everything that looks related in the list of installed programs. In my case that's only SonicStage. But maybe you have Simple Burner installed, that might enough to lock you into C:Program FilesSonysonicstage Then you need to get rid of the Sony shared stuff you referred to. Then you need to go through and religiously remove every reference in the registry to C:Program FilesSonysonicstageOmgjbox.exe Whilst you are doing this, probably you will want to delete most of the hives containing these references. Be careful not to delete anything which contains the above string AS WELL AS OTHER UNRELATED stuff. Oh yes, and as you go through, delete whatever these entries point to! There's a lot of stuff. Examples of things you can delete you'll find lots more): HKCROmgjbox.exe HKCRsonicstage HKCRsonicstages HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftIntelliPointAppSpecificOmgjbox.exe HKLMSOFTWAREClassessonicstage Almost any key name with omg starting it (look for clues that it's Sony-related). Don't forget to REBOOT before you install anything. It's the rebooting which freezes the registry. And empty the trash. And above all, don't panic. I have no idea why this should be necessary, but this is what I would do if I had the problem myself. NOW - search for Sony ******ANYTHING AT ALL containing the word Sony******* (of course if your computer is a Sony product this approach won't work). And get rid of it. In most cases you will want to delete the entire hive that contains it. Good luck!
  6. OK. Now we're getting warm. The reason it ignores the destination is that it finds a previous SS installed. The executable omgjbox.exe should be in that "sonicstage" directory, wherever you put it. Somehow you have to really really clean your computer of this (old) stuff, i.e. previous SS releases. I'm wondering if somehow you tried installing 2.2 from your CD over top of a (downloaded) later version. This could well account for what's wrong. It's helpful to everybody to hear about such weird stuff as we end up dealing with it. Or try to install on another machine.
  7. All I can think of was that Microsoft was in the early stages of their attempts to enforce partition of users' data and programs along per-user lines. I think it's essential for you to try creating a writeable directory on the root (If you cannot, there's part of the answer) of C: and install to there. I have the deepest suspicion of installing programs to C:Program Files Another thing to check is access to C:Program FilesCommon FilesSony Shared Start by deleting everything in there, which is where a lot of the guts is stored. Don't bother about de-installing. Just keep on installing over the top until things work. You can probably figure out how to get rid of the excess afterwards. You did say there was plenty of storage on C:? If you are booting from an SSD or (worse still) ROM, all sorts of bad things may happen. Hint: Sony used self-modifying code in this product. And I don't think installing an update to Open Office is enough of a test. You need something with a bit more of a footprint. Like I said, try Nero.
  8. This sounds most peculiar. Have you tried running the INSTALL program in XP Compatibility Mode? (I assume there's such a thing in Vista) This sort of nonsense may be why people didn't like Vista.
  9. I doubt it. But it does seem quite likely something is wrong with your computer. What were the last few things you installed? Any disk utitlities, or anti-spyware/malware/antivirus? What did you pick for destination? Try c:sonicstage There's one other possibility, if you really were running an old version of SonicStage before (you mentioned 2.2?), maybe it's still there and you didn't actually get rid of it at all. And you should turn off DEP and UAC - I don't recall what the default settings were for that ill-fated version of Windows. Time to try installing something other than SonicStage. First try something non-Sony, such as Nero (any old, and I mean old, version should do, not the very latest). Then try Simple Burner (maybe that's all you need anyway).
  10. You should search for omgjbox.exe on your entire computer's hard drive. When/if you find it, this should give you a signficant insight into what's wrong. Did I mention you should probably run the install (and indeed all the executables from Sony) as Administrator? Either your user needs to have admin power, or you need to make shortcuts which run the program by default in administrator privilege mode. It is ESSENTIAL to disable all antivirus and other scanners whilst running the install, as well.
  11. The main Sonic Stage program is called (for historical/marketing reasons) omgjbox.exe Hope this helps.
  12. It works! You haven't told us enough to figure out what's going on. At the least give us a screen shot of the last step which you think worked during installation, and a screenshot of the first error message you see (during installation). About how many minutes into the install did things go belly up? Are you 100% certain it isn't in fact successfully installed? Check the main Windows menu to see if there's anything there or not. You most definitely don't want anything to do with SonicStage 2.2 It maybe that you haven't removed the old software properly.
  13. Is it as simple as a change in the rights for the destination directory? I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that something used to work. Maybe there's been some sort of update where you were no longer of the proper authority to write files? Either your user changed, or the directories' ACL changed, then. RunAs administrator? Move files away from the User hierarchy to some place else? I don't know what used to work, if anything. This could also be a symptom that your root certs are out of date. Weird stuff happens in 7/8 if certificates are not updated. You can check under User Accounts and see if someone raised the security level on User accounts. Also turn off all AntiVirus software at least temporarily (Sony warned about this ages ago) and check if anything is taking all the CPU (ie you've been hacked/trojaned). Check whatever the last thing you installed was, and how much space there is left on C, and whether that is trending towards zero. I completely ran out of space on my C drive because the last app I installed decided to download a 4GB update without telling me (in fact I told it not to). At that point the computer tends to go to lala land. Stephen
  14. Time to go back to basics, Jeff. You have to see if you can transfer ANYTHING at all(using the MZ-RH1) from: 1. A Hi-MD disk (using a reformatted standard disk) 2. A NetMD disk (well, a "legacy" recording in LP2 would be the easiest, not one put there by NetMD which is supposed to be prevented). 3. A virgin (if you have one, otherwise formatted) 1GB disk. The problem here is that 1GB disks may not be fully erased until stuff is physically transferred from the disk to the HiMD. If you cannot transfer anything, then you've got a real problem. Along the way, check: that you have a NetMD driver installed. This of itself may be a problem if you are running 64-bit windows and the software somehow tries to poll a non-HiMD disk. Check that your RH1's "Disc Mode" is set to HiMD (I know it shouldn't be necessary). Is this recording precious, and if so, how long is it? If the answer is 'no', you might try putting some track marks in, relabelling the result files and uploading a smaller piece (assuming it was a long recording). That's all I can think of for now, other than trying a different USB cable.
  15. Can you PLAY the music recorded? By double clicking the track in the right hand pane of SonicStage? This should play on the computer, not the MD. I assume you mean Hi-SP (256kbps Atrac3+). "SP" is generally taken to mean "real SP" (original MD 292kbps) which is not possible on a 1GB disk. After this contretemps with the protection system, I'd be inclined to give everything a reboot. Also make sure you name your track. Doing what you did may have created an 'Uploaded from MD on blah-blah-blah' and maybe somehow a name conflict with uploaded files.
  16. Save the downloads. The best thing you can do to your SS music is to decrypt it. Otherwise it stays locked to that version of Windows on that machine. Even a System Restore will make some tracks unplayable unless you do this. Read up (on this site) about File Conversion Tool.
  17. Shouldn't be a problem. The 520 shows up with the same ID as the 510. Just as the 430 is the same as the 410.
  18. $349 I suspect maybe HK$? So about $50 or 30 quid.
  19. Sounds like the MD magnet which holds the disk in place during playback has come unglued.
  20. I don't think this makes the slightest difference, but: where did you get the latest version of SonicStage? From our downloads section... Or are you using something from a Sony CD or installed by downloading from somewhere else?
  21. The 920 has CXD8767N as the D/A chip, and the 930 has the CXD8735N-TP. They each have 2 chips (IC203 and IC204) labelled "current pulse" which are CXA8042AS in both machines. I think CX<anything> is generally Sony's only custom designation, whether or not they actually manufacture them. I haven't looked at the JA20ES. But I see little difference in the layout of the board between 920 and 930. Stephen
  22. Fair enough.... wow and double-wow. Locking is fine until something goes wrong. Then it's back to first principles. There should be a Windows boot option (on such machines) saying "Restore" which will reinstall Windows from a hidden partition. But if the MBR doesn't work, all bets are off, of course.
  23. I'm worried about the drastic nature of Syrius' solution. Surely you can easily get your hands on a USB DVD/CD drive? The ultrabook should have enough smarts to boot from that drive somehow. Once again it may be a matter of hitting F8 or F2 or <Del> or some key to tell it to boot into the attached drive. But there should be support for that, certainly laptops have had that for a while. If you don't understand anything in what I just wrote, please feel free to ask. Or maybe you're already sorted.....
