  1. Hi MTalley, this "don't have a disc to test with" note is very useful for the seller. I hope you did not pay too much ! Now that you have electronic repair knowledge, you will be filled ;>) with this deck. I hope you will find some help on this forum.
  2. See what I just write to you here some minutes ago... NH600 and NH700 are also for me the best 1st gen Hi-MD rather affordable units !
  3. Hi Taalo, anyway this combo is type R then only SP standard recording quality (the best before Hi-MD) and not a MDLP type S like the D400 (a rare and expensive unit). Simply for MDLP recording and listening you can use still affordable type-S portable units and wait for an opportunity in the future to put your hand on a MDLP type-S deck under 150-200$. I can buy Hi-MD bookshelves in Vietnam but I choose not to buy one because (1) there is no way to repair them nowadays (this is already the same for portables units), even passionate engineers MD fans (like @phamcu, @NGY, @jonathanpotato) or MD gurus like Jim Hoggarth who were all able to do it have given up. (2) those bookshelves have - no MD audio digital out (only CD) like quite a lot SP/MDLP decks have - no Net-MD features (only real time or CD-MD dub recording) - limited Hi-MD recording (PCM/Hi-SP/Hi-LP with no more specific Atrac3plus choice) that make it, for my own use, an interesting choice for real time PCM recording mode only. (3) too expensive (200$ Onkyo FR- N9TX) for the vietnamese market (but good price for your foreign market)

  6. Sonic Stage's SP transfer is a fake one (LP2 quality). In Vietnam (Saigon) there are also still quite a lot of LAM bookshelves but Sony LAM-X1 I had seen ONE in 27 years...
  7. Sonic Stage is only useful for me nowadays to transfer tracks PC <---> MD, Net-MD or real time recording. This is a long time that I have decided to use another audio software for importing albums, listening them, storing and editing them (SS ---> Winamp ---> foobar2000 ---> jRiver Media Center). When I want to make a new Md, I just convert my Flac files to Wma (with tags) the import tracks in SS. foobar2000 is perfect for correcting Tags.

  9. see minidisc.org, those CD-MD decks are very rare nowadays (especially with type-R recording feature) but you still can easily find bookshelves with such capabilities (I advise separate elements). From my perspective, except if you don't have too much place in your room, this is better to have CD and MD separate decks, or at the best only a MD deck and everything else on your PC laptop or a NAS...
  10. Anybody can download the Sonicstage software from this forum AFTER buying your unit. We invite you - to post at least some pictures of each sides of the unit, plus accessories - give your price - and tell us in which country you are living
  11. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Onkyo_X-B7+B8.html WHAT are you searching for in this manual ?
  12. There is NO english manual, the unit seem to have been sold only in Japan. Download the japanese manual and use a PDF Editor and Google Traductor.
  13. If you used the digital out with a digital amplifier, you will get only the CD sound, not the MD sound. This digital out is at first done to be connected a CD-R recorder.
  14. No thoughts. You can listen to your music without changing the order or the display, if not, buy another unit (type R preferably). You know it is easy to get one for cheap money.
  15. Open the unit and gently scratch the oxydation you will find around each button.
  16. Ok @bluecrab but how exactly you can do that properly ? Reading the MD and at the same time recording (PC line analog IN or S/PDIF in) on a CD-R/RW ?
  17. @wolb1 there is complete procedure explained many times on this forum to install with success Sony MD drivers on a PC with Windows 10. No need of a high expertise. Nethertheless, only the MZ-RH1 and its Mac version are able to transfer an old recordings to the PC with Sonic Stage (as said Stephen, sfbp, and even then only if they were not made by USB transfer in the first place).
  18. https://www.jp.onkyo.com/support/manual/manualpdf/n79tx.pdf Google Traductor is your friend or https://www.ilovepdf.com/ The big default for me about those Onkyo bookshelves is that, like I already said, there is NO digital out working also for the MD. Then if you want to listen to the MD using an external digital amplifier or digital receiver with S/PDIF in, you will need the analog line out of the unit concerning the MD.
  19. @Scoop tell us where you live, maybe one of us who get a MZ-RH1 could help you.

  21. Try to come back to a previous windows upgrade, the problem could with chance coming from there. I would come back to the original "factory" configuration after spending some hours saving any personal files, favorites & configs. Just need to be sure that your softwares and web sites will accept your username again and passwords, so do not forget to save them.
  22. Glad that "Jonathan the potato" help you to sort it out. https://www.jonathandupre.fr/ + his topics on LaserdiscPlaza Minidisc https://www.laserdiscplaza.fr/forumld/viewforum.php?f=73&sid=7366375439475170c2a3f86e4c925f2b
