Sonicstage 3.4 Debuts With Stunning New Functionality
Richard replied to Christopher's topic in News
I can confirm that this is indeed possible with 3.4. I have tested it. -
Brilliant! This is something I had hoped was possible for a long time, but never quite figured out how to implement. Thanks! Edit: Can confirm that this works well. Arial also seems to work ok as the default font.

If you right-click on the Simple Burner icon in your system tray in the context menu that pops up there is a sub menu CDDB. In here is the "Windows Configuration" option greyed out? If it isn't select it then fill in a username and password to be used by the service that connects to CDDB. If this has already been done either choose the Register option to try and refresh the connection to Gracenote or it could be that the password for the username you specified for the sevice doesn't match the password in the windows user database. eg: if originally you specified the username and password you log on to your machine with as the credentials for the service then subsequently changed your password this will likely not have updated the the password in the service in which case you will need to change it via the Services applet in the windows control panel. - The service in question is MD Simple Burner DB Access Service Let me know if you need any help checking this,

SS3.4 is a worthwhile upgrade for all Hi-MD users, but that's a different story. The question is will upgrading or reinstalling SS re-enable CDDB for SS at the expense of access for the Creative software. Perhaps try and see if you can disable the access for Creative (maybe have a search on the Creative support knowledge base as well) and confirm that SS.3.3 still works and that re-enabling it causes no issues for Creative. Then upgrade to 3.4 and repeat the process to see if the 2 are capable of co-habitation as it were.
-
It's quite possible that there is some conflict between the CDDB access used by SS and the Creative software. What is your objective - to keep both applications installed? (Otherwise I would obviously suggest uninstalling the Creative software ). If so is it possible you can check if there are any background services used by the Creative app that may need to be temporarily disabled for SS to run successfully.

Also it's not entirely clear from your original post when exactly SS crashes out with this error (at startup? when trying to play back MP3's / when converting files etc..) As A440 says it may be worth trying to re-register the encoder used by WMP. Do you have any specfic codec packs installed that may indicate to you/us that this is indeed the issue?
-
I will also add to this to say I have a done a couple more tests with the balance issue and either with ripped cd's or transcoded MP3 files (at multiple bitrates) converted and then transferred or converted "on-the-fly" as part of the transfer I cannot substantiate any claims of one channel being "louder" or significantly different than the other. These were also compared with encodings of the same cd albums made with 3.3 before I upgraded and again no difference. As for the multiple groups transfer again no issues transferring multiple groups of ripped cd's or transcoded MP3's. Also no issue transferring multiple groups of MP3 natively to DH10P or multiple groups of MP3 and converting on the fly to Atrac transferring to NH1. NB: all MP3 transcoding was from 44.1kHz sample rates in the original files.

Well if you follow the link you will see as I tried to explain that the first post for the main SS3.4 topic contains links to versions for all regions. As has also been explained elsewhere the 3.3 version in the downloads is the Asia Pacific version.

ACLayers.dll is the dll used by Windows to run apps not natively compatible with XP in compatibility mode. This is normally done by modifying the shortcut to the app and choosing a compatibility mode from the compatibility tab. Can you make sure you're not running SS in any compatibility mode. Also run an anti-virus check and spyware check as apparently there is spyware out there known to modify registry entries relating to this dll.

As far as buying SS3.3 is concerned, I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that as it's not the "current" supported version that is supplied as a free download you would have to buy it from Sony Support on a CD. I think you're reading too much into it to suggest that 3.3 is better therefore you have to pay for it. I'm sure 3.4 went through the same tests as 3.3 did before it was released to the general public.

Great post Dex, thorough, clear and with some pretty conclusive results. Like raintheory I haven't done too much testing with 3.4, just some basic uploading of PCM / Hi-SP and a lot of downloading at various Atrac3+ bitrates (mainly from ripped CD's), but like both of you I have not run into any issues whatsoever either.
-
Are they already in your library though - you didn't say? If so, as has already been explained you can't re-upload the same tracks.
-
If you're that bothered about it use the link to the US version in the 1st post of the main SS 3.4 topic: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=14137

Principal differences are as you say in the Connect store access. If you live in Europe and download the US version you won't be able to access the Connect store and vice versa. So if you need access to the Connect online music service be sure to download from Sony Europe. Apart from that, no real differences between versions that I'm aware of.

You have nothing to worry about. I bought my NH1 from Sefu @ Mindisc AU and it is certainly not cripppled.
-
Can't say I've ever noticed this but... When you transfer an album, do you go into the album and select all tracks then transfer or... go up to the album view (my view is at Albums/Playlists) then just select the top level album to be transferred? - I always do the latter. Does this happen with specific bitrates?
-
Sorry what issue is this?
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the "B" simply indicated the colour (in this case black).
-
Thanks for the comments. I use them now a little less than I used to, but still enjoy them nonetheless. I'm currently debating whether to get a pair of D66's which I have nearly bought so many times over the last year - or another pair of NC11A's (unfortunately the sound to the left bud died a few weeks ago) which are still very good sounding and I really miss them on flights as I tend to travel quite a lot, but find it impossible to listen to MD on planes without them.

Post it as an attachment - edit your post and browse to upload your pic, then click on "Add to Post" to insert it into your post.

Only if the bitrate you ripped to is not compatible with Hi-MD or you have chosen to forcibly convert all transfers irrespective. As "someone" has probably also said you can rip to 48,64,132,192,256,352,PCM and if you transfer "As-Is" you won't have any issues.

On the screenshot you have attached it looks like the back button is highlighted. If you press shift-tab to go to the previous item does the "next" button activate? Or try shift-tab, then use the cursors to go up and down (hoping to toggle between yes/no for the acceptance). Also scroll down to the end of the agreement - does anything change?

Sonicstage 3.4 Debuts With Stunning New Functionality

Yes. Yes - I think you've always been able to do this haven't you? -
Actually I was wrong, - sorry that doesn't seem to work either EDIT: I think it must go on the album name property. I had 2 tracks put them in a blank group, deleted the 2 distinct values for the album name and then uploaded the group. This just created a single folder in my library with the album name defaulting to the name of the uploaded group.
