  1. I have had something similar happen to me with the 38EL and the NH900 where the title of the track on the remote no longer scrolls making the backlight stay on. I've never really noticed any pattern to it - perhaps I will try the 7 characters thing to see if that is indeed the cause.
  2. I don't think anyone has said that MD's are going to be made in China. As far as I know most will still be made in Malaysia which is where all the 2nd gen Hi-MD models were made also the NH900 if I remember correctly.
  3. That's the one, mine is also a UK version and as I said does it's job admirably.
  4. I don't know the exact part number (maybe check the manual if you have it), but you can get a replacement from Sony DAPC if you are in the US. Or better still get the AC-E30A from Sony Style or www.audiocubes.com - probably costs less and you can take it travelling to boot.
  5. The most reliable gumstick charger I have found has been the BC-9HP2 which came with my E900 and which I still use and works flawlessly.

  7. I'll take some shots and post them in the gallery. With the full keyboard typing is very quick, the on-screen keyboard I find a little more fiddly, but the handwriting recognition is very accurate (even with my atrocious writing style). The camera is the 1.3MP like the DH10P, but I think the DH10P is a lot better because of the focussing options, white light adjustment, macro mode, self-timer, exposure adjustment etc.. That and the results just seem a lot clearer.
  8. I can sympathise with you as I have around a 1000 cd's myself. I'm not sure what the solution is, in my case I just seem to fill up more and more bookshelves with them, a few are stored away in boxes. Maybe you can relegate some to the attic/basement if you have one? Store the lesser used items at a friend or relatives house?
  9. I use Spyware Blaster myself together with Spybot 1.4. Pretty happy with both of them.
  10. Not something I bought myself, but the company I work for bought me one of these: Combined Pocket PC / UMTS Cellphone. Details here
  11. It's the same as the cable on the NH1/NH3D and possibly the N10 yes.
  12. I have an original NH-14WM battery from Sony purchased from a store (as opposed to from eBay where dodgy batteries are rife) and with my NH900 it definitely gives around 4-5hrs extra playback over the NH-10WM in Hi-SP.
  13. I'm assuming it's always the same cd's that give the problem? Have you tried importing to WAV and transferring "As-Is" in Sonic Stage to get the PCM tracks on to the unit. (As opposed to using Simple Burner). - Try with one track first to see if it gives the same problem (and maybe to a Hi-MD formatted 80 min disc if you don't want to risk another 1GB disc). I have only had this happen to me once with my NH1, and I was able to get the disc back by formatting from within Sonic Stage.
  14. See the answer in the other section - ie. the answer is still no.
  15. Not sure about the second question, but to have the tracks transfer to your MD in the same order they are on the cd, simply change the view in SS to Albums / Playlists, then transfer the album in question. When CD's are imported they are always imported in order and SS remembers the "Track No. On CD" property. The "All Tracks" is simply a view in SS that displays all tracks in alphabetical order.
  16. I've got just over 40 1GB discs and maybe about the same number in 74/80.

  18. I think a lot of people really do like Sony because they are like no other ;-) I genrally admire the design and the refusal to be like everyone else even if this has backfired on them occasionally.
  19. Got KrazyIvan's mix yesterday (he also apparently received mine). Just listening now. So far so good - a fairly eclectic mix of genres.
  20. My primary computer is a laptop with a 2.0Ghz Pentium M processor and 1Ghz Ram. I have been using this machine for just over a year with various versions of Sonic Stage and never had any issues. Encoding is pretty quick in my experience.
  21. I agree with this I also use the Stanton Dj Pro 60's with my NH900 (and all my other MD units) they are the best value headphones I ever had. Superb sound with 3-28000hz freq. response means some fierce bass ;-) - they are very durable (have had mine over 2 years, they have been round the world and still in near perfect shape), portable....
  22. Nice pictorial and some good comments. Was interested to see the screenshots of the recording level on the 55ELK. Like you say I think maybe the 40ELK is better for MD overall, but the 55ELK has a great design and still does a few more things than I thought it would.
  23. But to change into advanced mode you must have had to go into the menus, by holding down the jog dial on the remote? If you can access the menus via the remote, simply go to Useful => Search.
  24. Via lin/mic in, the NH1 can record to PCM, 256, 64 only on Hi-MD formatted discs and SP (292), LP2 (132) and LP4 (66) on NetMD / Standard formatted discs. Via Sonic Stage other bitrates (48, 105, 352) are available.
