  1. Do you need the ability to record from optical / line & mic-in? Or is PC connectivity enough?
  2. No import to WAV. Use the "Convert Format" option to convert to 352, then transfer "as-is". This would be a workaround yes, but I'm curious to the end result. Edit: I just tried this method and didn't encounter any issues. I imported a CD to WAV. This CD contains one hour of continuous music, but split into mulitple tracks so it needs to be gapless. Used the Convert Format to convert to 352. Deleted the WAV files. Transferred as-is. No playback issues / artefacts on the playback of these tracks and all tracks segue perfectly (ie. gapless is maintained). I don't know if this would be a workaround for you? I haven't yet tried your method of converting on the fly.
  3. What if you convert them to 352 before and then transfer "as-is" instead of converting as part of the transfer?
  4. Yes it is $65.95 on DAPC. I think this is the best deal you can find without going through eBay. The best on eBay is $63 from Buyfromjapan but then you have to add in shipping.
  5. The part number for the US version of the NH1 adaptor is 1-478-393-11, model number AC-ES608K. Both this and the AC-E60A can be ordered through Sony Parts in the US, but I don't know if they ship to Canada. Try the Sony Store first though as the AC-E60A has a universal inout so can be used anywhere in the world. They should be able to order it for you if they don't have it in stock.
  6. Or just press the "Delete" key on your keyboard
  7. Vaughan - 2 things: The reason they may not play on your RH-910 is not because they are too low a bitrate but because they are MPEG 2 Audio not MPEG 1. (The 2nd gen players play only the latter but from 32-320 VBR/CBR). Secondly to force the conversion to Atrac 48 what you need to do is the following. A bit frustrating I know but... Select all the tracks and using the Convert Format option convert to 48K. What you then need to do is go to the properties of the first track go to the last tab (File Info). You will see 2 files, the original MP3 and the converted Atrac. Delete the MP3 file and then use the arrows at the bottom to go to the next track and do the same for all tracks. Then when you transfer it will have to transfer the 48K. If you want to save the originals make a copy of the MP3 tracks in another location before deleting. The reason it always transfers the MP3 file by default is that SS thinks it should be playable and sends it to the unit, but because hardware-wise only MPEG1 is playable you get the CANNOT PLAY error.
  8. oops actually Bland is right sorry for the misinformation - tried it on my NH900 with both the 35ELK and the 38EL - no search - but with the 40ELK on the NH900 it does. Just goes to show it's been a while since I used those remotes!
  9. The functionality of the remote depends on the unit it is connected to. So on both of these remotes you should be able to access the Search function by going into the menu and then "Useful". As for browsing you can't do this (I assume you mean viewing the tracks ahead whilst still listening to the current track) - this is only possible on the RM-MC40ELK.
  10. The manuals on the Sony Europe site are copyright 2002 and don't have that section at all in Explanations. There is a bit on page 22 called "About Type-R DSP for Atrac". So maybe the later models did in fact have Type S. That is interesting.
  11. The UK manual on the Sony Europe site says Type-R on page 29 and on page 66 doesn't mention Atrac Type S. Under which section in yours does in mention Type S?
  12. I think your best bet is unless you have a charger from another MD player that uses LIP-4WM batteries is to get a universal 6V adaptor such as the AC-E60A.
  13. For the import settings in SS it is called WAV not PCM. Rip to WAV then as Dex says, transfer "as is".
  14. You have to assign the cover art in one of two ways: 1 - By attaching the artwork in Sonic Stage to the album before transferring to the unit. 2 - Attaching afterwards using the Cover Art link feature - but this only works with images that have been taken with the camera. You can't manually copy a jpg. to the unit that you downloaded from the internet for example and then attach it to the album after that album has been transferred from Sonic Stage.
  15. I am using 3.3 and can't say that I've had this problem. Does it happen if you delete multiple individual tracks / multiple groups / non-contiguous tracks?
  16. Sorry to say, but the answer is no, the 1GB discs are only compatible with Hi-MD equipment. Sony Hi-MD portables and Sony / Onkyo decks/ bookshelf systems. I think the MT15 is not even compatible with MDLP is it? Could be time to upgrade.
  17. If it is the NH1 the yes it comes with the RM-MC40ELK which is Kanji-capable. Which unit did you order?
  18. It's just that most Japanese sellers do not ship internationally. If you have a look on the Yahoo Japan auctions, there are dozens of Hi-MD units for sale and lots more older units too, but hardly any of them are open to international buyers.
  19. I don't live in Echt - (I actually live in Den Haag) - I was just travelling to a client there, and took that photo whilst waiting for the train back. If I am ever down there again I can PM you to let you know. Yes I read your excellent review of the DH10P - if I remember rightly it was one of the first and I certainly remember reading it before purchasing my own unit in July.
  20. I run SS 3.3 on my Dell laptop with the following specs: Processor: Intel Centrino 2.0Ghz Ram: 1GB Disk Free Space: 29GB NEC ND-6500A Dual Layer DVD-RW Win XP SP2 I don't really have any performance issues on this machine. Transfer speeds are ok for me, but transfers are quicker to the NH1 / DH10P than to the NH900. I usually import CD's as step one to the desired bitrate and then transfer as-is aftwerwards. MP3's I manually convert using the "Convert Format" option and then transfer as is as a second step. The base install of SS was 2.1 which came with my NH900 and has been progressively upgraded via internet installers on Sony's site to 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 & 3.3. I have never had to uninstall / re-install.
  21. Ok - pictorial updated. Have included a couple of shots of photos on the display as per Greg's request, but this is very difficult to photograph given the luminescence of the display itself which is incredibly bright, but never appears as such in photos. Also included comparison shots with other units for reference plus 1 new photo taken with the unit itself. Enjoy!
  22. No you will need to use Sonic Stage. Simple Burner can only transfer LP2 / LP4 to Net MD formatted discs.
  23. I don't think anybody did. It clearly states that the bundle contains 5 or 10 (depending on the model) 80 Min Color Collection blanks.
  24. The Sony Web Installer is for europe is at: http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/sonics...age_dl.asp?l=en
