I've done this on a Hi-MD player and am confused as well because the space occupied on the player is the same if I transfer lossless or Atrac3+ 256.
-
Size on the Hi-MD disc is identical (or reported as so if you view the track properties on the disc direct from the transfer window) so I suspect they will sound the same. But it transfers instantly (ie. with no extra conversion). The size in My Library is different though (lossless being bigger). Also interesting is the recording quality drop-down box (even on "standard" Atrac 3 Plus @ 256) - where you can choose between "Normal" or "High"
-
I'm a bit confused regarding Atrac Advanced Lossless. I can import a cd track as "Advanced Lossless - 256K Transfer)" (see below) [attachmentid=1016] - It transfers to the Hi-MD "as-is" and shows up on the unit as Hi-SP. Will this sound exactly the same as if I had imported from the CD directly as Atrac3plus 256K?
-
I think we must have hit the "post" button within a couple of seconds of each other
-
I don't think any PSP's are are they? I thought all Japanese and EU ones were region 2.
-
I already posted about that in this thread a couple of minutes before you did http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12882&hl= Maybe the mods can merge/delete one of the two threads.

Sony has released Sonicstage 3.3 and it is now available through Minidisc Community Downloads and other locales.+++ Enhancments include: As mentioned before, ATRAC Advanced Lossless has been introduced. There are four bitrates: 256, 132, 128 and 64kbps at normal and high quality settings. When converting from CD to AAL, you can choose from one of those four bitrates. AAL cannot be transferred over to an exising ATRAC device; it will be converted to ATRAC3plus 256kbps. [attachmentid=1022][attachmentid=1021] To further expand on the aforementioned *.wma support, a screenshot has been provided: [attachmentid=1023] Note: Another nice feature from SonicStage 3.3 is the option to transfer your ATRAC tunes as ATRAC3plus 352kbps to all existing ATRAC3plus capable units - that includes 1st and 2nd generation Hi-MD units and all known ATRAC3plus capable Network Walkman devices, VAIO Pocket and the PSP. The following screen captures depicts the option to use ATRAC3plus 352kbps in the "Transfer Window." *The device used during this transfer was the VAIO Pocket. [attachmentid=1026][attachmentid=1027] In addition to a new ATRAC3plus 352kbps bit rate and the advent of the ATRAC Advanced Lossless format, SonicStage 3.3 allows the user to determine ratings of each music track. This remote is not on sale in Japan as a separate accessory - it comes only with top-end Discman units like the NE-920 etc.. Try http://www.bargaining4all.com/catalog/

Sony Hi-MD Walkman MZ-EH1 Pictorial
Richard replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
If you look at the very first photo you will see the brushed effect. Ishii has done a great job with the photos and they really bring out the character of this unit, although maybe it is easier to see the brushed effect in real life - although having said that it depends how the light hits it - it can look more matte from an angle. -
Well yes and no - SS2.0 and earlier files were saved as .omg. Anyway the answer is obviously therefore not to check the copy protection and create .oma files. Otherwise re-convert the files to the same bit-rate and remove the protection.
-
.omg files are DRM'ed files created using sonic stage version 2.0 or earlier. You need to convert them to .oma using the conversion tool - for which you need to install Sonic Stage itself.

Hi, I have never entered service mode on my DH10P as it is a Japanese model and the output is already at 5mw. The output on the EU model is a meagre 2.8mw. I do not endorse personally any of the steps mentioned below but... You could try the same method as is available for the RH10 to enter service mode: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9752 See above for the steps, then change the area code as per p.20 of the DH10P service manual, but please be very careful indeed - changing anything other than the destination code would likely render the unit unsable.

I tend to agree with Volta. 7/12 hrs @ 256K for me is the perfect solution. I was messing around the other day and decided to burn an album in PCM just to see. I chose an album of electronic ambient music that I know very well as a piece of music and that has very high production qualities. I listened to it all the way through in PCM - sounded great (This was on the EH1 and using the Stanton DJ Pro 60's which have a freq. range of 3-27,000hz). Listened to it again all the way through in Hi-SP and could hardly tell the difference at all. Only maybe in a couple of places, but to be honest it was pretty much identical. I use Hi-SP for nearly all my music. I use LP2 on Hi-MD formatted discs for podcasts and other spoken audio. I have a few discs made via optical in real SP that I use with my E900 and a few more in LP2 also via optical, again for the E900 when I take it out. On the few occasions I have recorded music live, I have done so in PCM or Hi-SP and then burnt to audio cds.
-
Yes, but only via Optical In. "Fake SP" is an encoding method used by Sonic Stage for backwards compatibility purposes that basically wraps LP2 (132k) as SP, but with no actual increase in sound quality to allow this to be played on legacy players that don't even have MDLP capability. Correct. Again only Fake SP is available through Sonic Stage.

Low volume with Sony Hi-MD MZ-NH1 Please help!
Richard replied to Vinchenzo's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Having said that, the NH1 service manual simply says that the output is 5mw whereas for other models like NH900 or second gen. models it explicity states the different outputs for the regions (eu being lower). -
You can probably figure it out by having a look at the equipment browser here: http://www.minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html But NH1 has magnesium casing, Li-ion battery vs. Nimh, HD Digital AMP, NH1 has a better remote etc...
-
You can have a look at the Sony 2005 annual report at this link: http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/ar/2005/index.html Here it mentions some figures re Mindisc uinit sales worldwide and how they have fallen vs. last year.
-
Above the price list is a link that says "How to buy"
-
I have 4 - as per my signature. Edit: Make that 5 - my Australian NH1 is on it's way!
-
I understood him to mean he wanted to do field recordings via Md of environmental sounds, burn to cd via computer and re-sell. So in a sense they are his own recordings - unless I misread him.
-
This was discussed here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9066&hl= But unfortunately no-one really took he idea anywhere..
-
I wouldn't risk it. Looking at this charger it looks like you have to connect it to the battery by basically shorting the circuit. Forget it. Just get a second battery and charge both before you leave.
-
The charger itself is quite bulky - I don' have the exact measurements. The adaptor is standard in the sense that it is a 6V - the same as all other Sony Hi-MD players using the LIP-4WM battery. And the socket connection between adaptor and charger is standard - as you say it's the connection between the cradle and the player that is unique. You could theoretically use a charger from say the DH10P or the EH1 and plug these into the NH1 cradle, but you still need the NH1 cradle to charge as the player itself has no ac input socket.
-
As far as I know (I mentioned in the other topic http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12747) there are none currently. Spare batteries can be bought fairly easily.
-
I can't think of any Hi-MD player whose door will open completely whilst in the cradle. And is this really such a big deal - I can't see how this makes it "worthless for any serious use". Only the front of the NH900 is metal the back is plastic. Tommy - there is no external charger currently for LIP-4WM batteries. The USB cables for the NH1 / DH10P are not that flimsy in my opinion if you treat them carefully - the NH1 / DH10P (unlike other units) come with 2 USB cable - 1 longer & 1 short. And if you somehow destroy both of these you can buy replacements.
