Well, I think one good thing that could come from this kind of research is a Linux-compatible program. Also in regards to playing OMA/OMG files. There is a WinAmp plugin that will allow you to play these files without SonicStage. I think it's in the downloads section here.

MZ-RH1 Upload Restriction Workaround
raintheory replied to raintheory's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Haha, Well after the uninstall of 4.3 and reinstall of 4.2 I can now upload these tracks without any problems. So, Mods... Your call. You can delete/edit this thread if you want in order to avoid confusion, or leave it for reference.. Bottom line, if you run into this same issue just reinstall. -
MZ-RH1 Upload Restriction Workaround
raintheory replied to raintheory's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
well... turns out my SonicStage install was somewhat "broken", so this may not even need to be done in the first place. reinstalling now and i'll post back soon. -
I'm with bobt on this one, we've seen this many, many times here. What happens is the ribbon cable that connects to the reading/recording head starts to break from wear and tear and all sorts of issues can arise... The worst being erased discs. There are ways to repair the cable, and they have been described here before, but for a N505 it would hardly be worth the effort.

Yep, you do.. But converting the format to the same bitrate makes a copy of the file (not transcoded) without DRM. Otherwise, if you say, back up your recordings to DVD or whatnot and then try to import those to another install of SonicStage it won't work.

Bear in mind that it is not necessary to keep the Atrac3 files on the PC after you transfer to MiniDisc (there is an option for this in SoinicStage). The only reason to keep the converted Atrac3 files is so that future transfers of the same track are quicker. But it costs you in hard disk space.

Heep in mind that the only Hi-MD recorder that will be able to upload your old discs is the MZ-RH1.

MZ-RH1 Upload Restriction Workaround
raintheory replied to raintheory's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
It's not in the Recycle Bin afterwards... However I suppose it would be worth trying some sort of data recovery program to see if it can find it. -
So I tried uploading a NetMD MiniDisc that was created using SimpleBurner, only to be presented with the following error: No dice... However, I did notice that it appears as though Sonicstage actually uploaded the entire track before the error occurred. On a hunch, I checked in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages" and saw a folder labeled with todays date! Unfortunately the folder was empty... Back to square one. I fired up SonicStage again, and started transferring one of the tracks. Now I navigated to the same place while the track was transferring ("C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages") and saw a new folder with todays date, inside I saw the track I was uploading: Now, the trick is to force SonicStage to quit before the entire track is uploaded. Once the track reaches 100%, SonicStage throws you the error and deletes the file it was uploading. Open the task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) and click on "Omgjbox.exe", then start your SonicStage transfer. As soon as the track gets to ~98-99% click "End Process" in the task manager. Be aware that it will probably ask you for confirmation so you will need to be quick. Once you have forced SonicStage to close, you can import the track you were uploading back into SonicStage and convert to WAV/Transfer to another Disc, etc. The track will be located in a Subfolder of "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages" with the current date and time as the name of the subfolder. Hope this works for everyone else, feel free to comment or make any other suggestions.

The IM-DR80 uses a 3v power supply (I'm guessing you have the IM-DR80 from your signature. Nice unit, btw). The polarity looks to be the same as the sony ones. If the actual plug is the same size it should work. My N707's came with car adapters, I'll have to look around to see if I still have them somewhere.

The RH1 will let you upload SimpleBurner material (just found this out... though I think I had suspected this before). There may be an older version of SonicStage/OpenMG that had lax restictions which may allow uploads, but I am confident that any material recorded using a recent version of SonicStage will not be uploadable. Doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try if you can, by all means. I'm just stating what the known restrictions on the unit are, and also stating from my personal experience. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression and spent $300 or more for a unit thinking they can upload all of their SonicStage material, only to find out that it doesn't work. EDIT: I received an error at the end of transferring the SimpleBurner track I was just testing. So now I'm unsure if that actually works.

The RM-40ELK will work with probably any MiniDisc unit that has a remote port... but it may not have all of it's features (such as seeing the Recording Level meters). Minidiscaccess would be truthful in saying that the remote works with the N10 because it most likely does, just probably not in the way you need it to. The backlight will probably work though I purchased mine on eBay from china. I'm in the states though.

The only remote I know of that shows Rec-Level meters is the RM-MC40ELK.. but I'm not sure if it works with these older recorders or not since it is a Hi-MD remote.. EDIT: Just tested on my MZ-R700 and it does not show the level meters. ANOTHER EDIT: If you have your unit in REC-PAUSE amd manual recoring levels, you should be able to adjust the rec-level using the |<< >>| slider on your remote.

The main thing with these type of microphones is that they are much more liable to pick up mechanical noise of the MiniDisc unit itself operating (since they sit so close to the unit, if not directly on the unit). One way around this however, is to use a headphone extension cable to hold the mics away from the unit. Though this somewhat defeats the purpose of the design I suppose... Also you are limited as far as your stereo separation since they are fixed-point.
-
Bear in mind that while uploading, the unit spins the disc faster. Therefore you are more liable to hear operational noise.

My RH10 has a similar problem when I record using the power supply in my home. Personally I just use battery power instead to solve the problem, but this article may help: http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/connecti...m-hum-and-buzz/

Eeek, thats REAL short!

Only the RH1 can upload pre-Hi-MD formats... And even the RH1 won't upload material that was transferred to MiniDisc via SonicStage or OpenMG.. Only recordings done via Line/Optical/Mic can be uploaded with the RH1.
-
As Guitarfxr mentions, definitely update to v2.0 of the software. It may fix the problem, as well as allow you to download Mp3 files to your recorder via Mac. Also you will be able to upload Hi-SP & Hi-LP tracks, the older version of the Mac software only allowed uploading of PCM tracks. And to clarify some, yes you can use standard MD discs, as long as you format them as Hi-MD. The M10 doesn't record in legacy mode (LP2/LP4) except via SonicStage, so you shouldn't have to worry about accidentally recording in those formats.

nice!

I thought all Hi-MD units prior to the RH1 stated in their manuals that they would receive a supplemental charge while connected to USB, but that this would not fully charge the unit, and for a full charge you needed to use the actual power adapter..

The B portion is (i think) considered "Mini-B", or "5-Pin Mini-B".
