  1. The Dynamic Normalizer isn't set to "ON" by default, and you aren't forced to use it in any way. I agree that some parts/songs are meant to be quieter, but the Dynamic Normalizer has at least come in handy for me when it comes to listening to my own live recordings that the volume turned out low on.
  2. Mp3 compatible Hi-MD models (including the RH10 and RH910) are Mac-compatible as far as downloading to the unit. These units cannot upload though. The earlier NH*** models cannot do either uploading or downloading. As Volta stated, you need either the M100, M10, or RH1 to upload your recordings to Mac.
  3. Those LP2 recordings cannot be uploaded digitally to your PC with your unit... Hi-SP will give better quality, and will allow you to upload the recordings to PC.
  4. This is for installing a Digital (optical) output onto portable units. The only units that these outputs are standard on are some high-end decks. No portables have this output built-in. Evidently it also bypasses SCMS.
  5. Received unit today! Thanks! left feedback here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=17872
  6. Purchased an MZ-DH10P in WONDERFUL condition for a great price! Great email communication, and prompt shipment. Highly recommended! Thanks!
  7. This looks promising... Haven't tried this myself, but might well be worth a shot if you have some extra portables lying around that you don't mind hacking: http://users.tkk.fi/~jwagner/electr/minidisc-spdif/ The MiniDisc reference/instructions are about halfway down the linked page.
  8. hmm, yeah I don't think it actually has a remote port..
  9. I highly recommend greenmachines mics as well.
  10. Wikipedia, under entry Pitch (Music): The A above middle C is nowadays set at 440 Hz (often written as "A = 440 Hz" or sometimes "A440", and known as concert pitch), although this has not always been the case (see "Historical pitch standards"). Since some instruments in an orchestra use different key signatures (because of transposition), concert pitch is often used to describe a particular pitch in absolute terms, regardless of notation. -- Hence, A440... I believe. A442 is also fairly common I believe, which can lead to problems for musicians when traveling..
  11. Here is the service manual for it: http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/download.php?file=73 from the downloads section here.
  12. Check yr PM... I have an extra one. -
  13. Whichever portable you decide on... You'll want to be sure it has a Mic-In if you plan on using a microphone. There are models that have both mic and line-in, models that have only line-in, models that lack both line and mic-in (only usb), as well as player only models... When in doubt... Check the Equipment Browser as A440 stated: http://www.minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html
  14. I noticed that too A440...
  15. If all else fails, and it is a MDAC problem, you could always just reinstall MDAC completely.
  16. Interesting... SP "compatibility mode" via SonicStage is actually LP2 quality ... 132kbps instead of real SP 292kbps... I would hope your next test will yield better results..
  17. We've just decided to list our MDS-E10PRO Deck on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=220076123890 If the winning bidder is a member of the forums here with 50+ posts, we'll knock 50% off of the shipping charges. Listing ends Jan-31-07 19:06:22 PST Buy-It-Now Price: $245 Sorry, USA only... EDIT: Looks like it's already been sold... that was rather quick!
  18. The NH900 was released in 2004 I think... So only about 2 to 3 years old.
  19. Also bear in mind that if what Greenmachine has stated is in fact what you attempting to accomplish, even the RH1 cannot upload recordings that were originally recorded to NetMD via SonicStage or OpenMG software.
  20. The ribbon cable that it is connected to can simply break down from normal wear and tear over time. There have been a few reports of it happening with these older units as I stated. Occasionally when this happens, the unit will actually erase/corrupt the TOC area of the MiniDisc, effectively erasing the entire disc. The R700 came out in 2001... So a used one from eBay could potentially have ~6 years of wear and tear on it. If you are able to find one in good condition that hasn't been used too much then it may be worth it. EDIT: I'm off to bed at the moment, if you are interested in getting one of these older units, try your best to get as much information as you can from the seller.
  21. Yes you would need to listen on the unit itself. If you wanted to get the recordings to PC it is possible, but you need to playback the unit and record the tracks on the PC in realtime. The R700 is a great recorder, don't get me wrong (I have had 2 of them). Uploading to PC with the newer recorders is a convenience for most, but a necessity only for a few. However, I would be more worried about problems arising regarding the recording head wearing out on the R700. Quite a few people have lost their recordings using these older units once the ribbon cable that connects the recording/optical head to the unit starts to break down.
