    BLARGH!

Better be careful.. I know of a few places that PayPal has threatened to sue if they put any derogatory words about them on their websites... Paypal has been pretty nasty recently though in many other ways too.
  2. The only reason I have not gone completely to Ubuntu on my laptop is because my E-MU 1616m won't work with it.
  3. When in album view, you can click on the column header for CD track # and it will put them in order. Any column header that you click on will organize the tracks by that column, Hope this helps some.
  4. I came across a blog entry that had a short tutorial on installing SonicStage on Linux using VMware Server (freeware) & Samba Filesharing... Of course a working Windows CD is also needed to install the Virtual OS. Anyways, I tried it out on my Ubuntu installation and it works very nicely! A good bit faster than I was expecting as well (considering I am using a Dell Optiplex GX110 933mHz PIII with only 256mb of RAM./ Tried uploading and downloading and had no problems whatsoever. I also tried SimpleBurner and it worked just fine. I installed Windows 2000 Professional on the VMware Server. The only downside is that you still are tied to Windows (albeit a Virtual install of Windows). But hey, it works! Link - http://undocumentedcode.com/?p=15
  5. I've actually thought about rack-mounting my LaCie 500gb. They sell rack ears for them. My rack serves as a laptop stand anyway (aside from housing our MDS-E10 Pro, MOTU 828 MKII, etc) and I use the LaCie for all of my music production anyway.
  6. Actually, I'm trying a method I came across that involves using VMware Server and a virtual installation of windows (with samba sharing enabled to get files from Linux>Virtual Windows....) I'll post back if it can get it working smoothly. Right now the Virtual Windows 2000 install is downloading and installing SonicStage.. See here: http://undocumentedcode.com/?p=15 EDIT: It's all pretty humorous actually... I'm doing this whole thing from a VNC connection on my Laptop computer.. So from this WinXP Laptop, I am controlling a Linux box upstairs, which in turn has a Virtual installation of Win2000 Pro on it..
  7. Funny... I just now got an email from Sony about this software... Almost a month after I initially found it.
  8. Wow I can't believe I never heard of that NotMD program. It's a shame the developer stopped working on it... Maybe we can spark some interest somehow. I guess it wouldn't work for transferring tracks from Hi-MD>PC though. I wonder if MarC (Hi-MD Renderer) develops any stuff on Linux.. ?
  9. Windows XP Ubuntu Linux Mac OSX Tiger Not sure which to vote on because I use all 3 pretty equally.
  10. Why isn't this in the Off-Topic section? j/k
  11. Do you have CD-Image software installed? For example Nero Imagedrive, Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, etc.?
  12. Not sure if this could be the culprit... but you don't by chance have multiple hard drives set up in a RAID array do you?
  13. They'll be in "/optimized files" instead of an actual album folder...
  14. For mp3's on my RH1 I usually just transfer as-is... For all other formats I usually stick with Hi-SP 256kbps.
  15. start/run: diskmgmt.msc it's pretty straightforward, but if you're not familiar with it it may be worth googling for some simple instructions.
  16. Well that's what I've been doing, but I'd like to add some additional things to the installation... I have it installed on one of our boxes upstairs, but I'd love to be able to just carry around a small external drive with my tailored install on it. The Live CD is great though, it's the only Live CD I've found that detects all of the hardware on my laptop with no problems.
  17. you could always use diskmgmt.msc to switch your drive letters around.
  18. I am now ripping my hair out trying to get Ubuntu Linux to boot from an external USB drive so I can use it's full functionality on my laptop without actually installing it to the internal drive... grr...
  19. Heh, well personally I use it for three main reasons: 1. EAC has lots of features. 2. EAC is well-known for it's accuracy (even shows you detailed logs after ripping). 3. SonicStage doesn't detect my CD-Drive (probably because I have Daemon tools installed). Check out the documentation and features at the site: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ Also, SonicStage has caused me many, many more headaches than EAC.
  20. If not using SimpleBurner, I would recommend using Exact Audio Copy (freeware) to rip the CD to .WAV files and then import those to SonicStage to transfer at whatever bitrate you choose.
  21. Well one good thing (at least for some people) is that even if the OLED dies out after 14 or so years (this is assuming the unit still functions) the recording levels can be seen and set via the RM-MC40ELK remote... As far as the MZ-RH1 lasting 14 years... We'll have to wait and see. We have a MZ-1 that was purchased in '93 that still works, but also a MZ-N707 purchased much more recently that has died.. Only time will tell.
  22. You should try as PCM & Hi-SP and compare too... That way we can try to see if it in fact transcodes to Hi-SP prior to converting to PCM. I'd love to know if this is the case, since personally I have been backing up the SP/MONO as PCM for quality, but if its Hi-SP first then I may as well just upload as Hi-SP... Thanks for your efforts with this!
