  1. Too right, I had a chance for a few hours last night to play with an ipuddle, what a piece of crap, inane menu structure, poor sound, flimsy cables I'm glad to be a MD user. Bob
  2. I've been recording for years, and from day one the advice has been set levels and leave them alone, with digital you don't have the headroom of analog, but eventually you will find a happy medium. I recorded Kiran Ahluwalla at the Edmonton Folf Music Festival a couple of years ago with an MZ-N707 and a simple mic, turned out great. Remember, simple is better. Bob
  3. I Haven't actually listened to 2nd generation so I can't really sy, but unless you have "golden ears" I don't think you will have a problem. MP3 is not an audiophile format so it will not be the same as PCM or reel to reel. Get your unit and you will be happy. Bob
  4. "Sound" is purely subjective. What I would recommend is get a set of earphones you are comfortable with and try out a few units, being careful not to think that just because a unit is louder that it sounds better. "sound" is onle part of the picture, buy a unit that does what you want it to do. Bob
  5. I would recommend Hi MD unequivicabally, first generation 900 or NH1 if possible, MZ100 if not. You will not be disappointed. Welcome to the club, Bob
  6. Go for the 800, it has a mic jack, any deals down there on MZ-NH1's. Bob
  7. Neat idea, but only found the last four songs to be listenable, the rest is toooooo boring. Will have to look up some of the other compilations, and see if we can get MB to disccast them. Bob
  8. I recorded about 8 hours at a folk festival a couple of years ago with a cheap Sony mic and a 707 various distances from the source, and was blown away by the quality and definition. It's a great little recorder, but I would definately recomment going HiMD, either an NH900 or NH1, or the MZ100 looks nice, as it comes with a decent mic and headphones and soundforge. TTFN Bob
  9. You might try SS3.2, sounds like they have made a few repairs. TTFN Bob
  10. "it reported receive you because your state registered at the MDcenter.nl MailUpdate. --- There was so far one large minus to the uploaden as from Hi-MD: you could his own prerecording but 1x uploaden. Own prerecordings on several PC's uploaden or again uploaden (after for example formatting the PC.) were not possible. This has been remedied as from SonicStage 3.2. with this version is possible you prerecordings unlimited uploaden. Therefore several keren to one PC. or to infinitely many several PC's. at last have you all rights concerning own prerecordings also in own hands. Our recommendation is thus: as soon as possible upgraden to SonicStage 3.2. the only question which remains then: where can I download SonicStage 3.2? Closely, here: SonicStage 3.2 installer read further:" This is a Baelfish translation of an e-mail I just got from a dutch minidisc site. reinforces the unlimited upload feature. Can't wait to get another minidisc so I can start playing again. TTFN Bob
  11. too little too late, innocent ladies still get stabbed in NYC subways, and innocent men still get shot in London. It's a sad situation. As always, it's the innocent that get hurt the worst. Bob
  12. It's the american way of saying zee instead of zed
  13. Hi Kurisu, Board looks good, looking 4ward to good stuff. Take care Bob
  14. I have seen NH1's on Amazon.com, and amazon.co.uk, you might be able to get one out of the states, or try ebay. Battery life is not an issue with the NH1 no matter what you hear, a spare battery will take care of any eventualities. The new MZM100's look nice, but I like the solidness of the first generations better. Good luck in the hunt. By the way I got my NH1 from Canada, some Sony stores or Future shops may still carry them. Bob
  15. Actually unobtanium would be the ideal material, can use it for everything. The higher end Hi MD's seem to be constructed very tough, the MZ-NH1 looks like you could drive over it, it is solid, doesn't like salt water though. My Mz-N707 cannot keep a screw in it, have to salvage screws from wayches etc to keep it together, and this was a fairly expensive recorder a few years ago. I agree with what they charge higher quality material, carbon fibre,, some of the exotic epoxies etc should be the norm not the exception. Bob
  16. Just ordered two by Manfred Mann 1: Nightengales and Bombers, 2: Odds and Sods, a 4 CD greatest hits rarites set.
  17. It appears you are in the us, try ebay, or yahoo. You can also check the electronics section of your daily newspaper or go to some yard or garage sales, never know what you might find, got a great Akai reel to reel deck a few years ago for $10.00. Some retailers still offer the decks as well, try goole. Good luck, Bob
  18. If I remember right the data drives used a different file system than the music MD's. I seem to remember seeing a Hi-MD computer drive that may do what you need, or else try ebay or yahoo and try to find a data drive. Have you tried any of the recording studios in your area? Good luck, Bob
  19. I've been an audiophile for at least 30 years, have had some stae of the art systems,(Still up in Edmonton infortunately) What I left up there when I moved to the Caribbean, a Revox cd player, Revox turn table, Heco triamped speakers, Teac reel to reel tape recorder, Aiwa Cassette deck, and DBX dynamic range enhancer. The only device that I used thet trucl had any effect on sound was a high damping sticky mat for the turntable with a disc clamp/ The speakers will run off a preamp, but have had a variety of good amps as well. The biggest thing you can do for good sound is meticulous speaker placement, and good speakers, especially on a two speaker system. Surround sound systems sometimes take away from the sound of a properly set up stereo system. A good to excellent speaker system is your starting point, anything else adds to it. Really enjoyed that article. I love the argument on speake cables that say they use special wires to allow for the skin effect at high frequenies. Audio frequencies don't go high enough for skin effect, I don't think many people can hear in the gigahertz range. IMHO TTFN Bob

    Mzm100 Or Rh10

I'm wondering if the MZM is a semiprofessional model or something, as I have seen it on a few sites, and alwasys maketed with mics. If I remeber one ad right it said it is Mac compatible with soundforge. Maybe somethings happening, Linux next?? Bob

    Mzm100 Or Rh10

Does anyone know the difference of the MZM100 offered at zzsound.com and the RH10 which it looks a lot like. Is it just their unit number?? Just call me curious, Bob
