  1. If the recording is on a regular MD, you can upload it to a computer using the RH1 (of have someone do it for you.) If it was on HI-MD, you can upload. Or record to your computer using Line-in. SonicStage will not play MIDI files. You will need to record to an MD using your computer's line out, as they are played by Windows Media Player or similar.
  2. Male-to-male stereo headphone plug should do the trick. If you are in the USA, Radio Shack should have it.
  3. You can also try another remote, even if it's not the tuner one. And lookie what my doggie nose found: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-RM-MC39LT-Mini-Di...93%3A1|294%3A50 The remote for the NHF800!
  4. Try WMA Lossless or FLAC. Same sound, less space. That being said, your ears are the best judge. Some people like using ATRAC 64 Kbps and say that sounds fine to them. (How? Just... how??? ). Others think/feel MP3 at 320 is transparent enough to be enjoyed in mid-fi environments. Others can tell the difference between Ogg at 700 kbps and an uncompressed source. I myself stick to 256 kbps and above, regardless of format.
  5. Okay. That is for us fans. What about Joe Ipod-Lover in the street, or John Recording-Enthusiast?
  6. But doesn't this little device pretty much.. well.... beats it?
  7. Why do I get the feeling that MD just exhaled its last breath for good?
  8. I was expecting HI-MD and MD to last until 2015. Oh well. At least Sony is still thinking of the enthusiasts. *clutches his NH900 and RH1*

Another vote for the Etymotic 4P. They work wonderfully with the digital amps.
  10. Not all PS3's have memory stick inputs. Or were you referring to a generic USB drive, Wizard?
  11. Since the files are being uploaded via Winblows explorer, and not SonicStage, that's why no copy protection is applied. It's been moved as raw data, and not "music data" from within the HI-MD's internal music file-system. It's as if you had ripped a CD in your computer and had un-selected the option to add copy protection. Just make sure that you remove copy protection from the files you uploaded via SonicStage to the computer. SS adds copy protection automatically when you do so. Probably to keep the worry bags from Sony pictures happy, of course.
  12. *Syrius offers a 42-inch HDTV on Craigslist* *Syrius notates the TV is worth 800 dollars on a Black Friday.* *Syrius Asks only 600 because it's open, though new and working* *Syrius gets offers of 400 dollars even though he stated the lowest he could go was those 600 for the above reasons* *Syrius realizes people suck, period.*
  13. I meant files converted with SonicStage and copy protection removed by the user. But yes, like you said, the systems need it encrypted for it to work. Way to shoot oneself in the foot, Sony. Moo!
  14. Given that ATRAC uses relatively little computing power versus some other codecs (unless things have changed) Sony still uses it both on the PSP (I think mandatory for games and movies) and the PS3 (optional for games). Makes sense since some games need all the processing time they need from the CPU and GPU. The PSP has been able to play ATRAC 3 Plus since the beginning, as well. Too bad you must use SonicStage, rather than drag and drop. Even for non-encrypted files!
  15. Protected WMA files won't burn to a CD, real or Virtual. There are a couple of alternatives, but they are... how can I say it... "less than Kosher"?
  16. Heh, heh. Not exactly "pleased". More like "learned to live with it as if he were an annoying relative" used to it. Thanks for the clarification. W00t for open source.
  17. All right. Good to know you aren't thinking of leaving us non-linux literates high and dry. I am still not sure what the benefits of this software are. I've looked all over the thread, and couldn't find them. Can you please explain to me?

    blue ray md...

As cool as this technology is, either the media corporations will find a way to kill it if it doesn't fit their plans, or the owners of the technology will get greedy and alienate hardware makers. You'll see. It has happened with almost every cool technology in the past. (One notable exception being SD cards, and that's why they are so popular now.)
  19. I'm donating my 10 USD today. Less than 10 Euros, but I'm glad to help. Donated 10 USD. CBMUser, I have a question. I don't use Linux. How will this benefit those of us who prefer or are stuck with Windows?
  20. I officially pledge 10 dollars. Which seller will have the honor of sending his/her RH1 to be used for this project?
  21. How about we pool the money, send it to one of the members who is selling any of their RH1s, forward the money to them, and kill two birds with one stone that way? Meaning, I pledge 10 dollars. SFBP for example, pledges 5. GuitarFXR promises another 7, and so on... then we forward the money to whoever is selling an RH1, and everyone is happy?
  22. How about converting the file to Wave/Flac using HI-MD renderer, then to whatever flavor of WMA you wish? It's one extra step in the middle, but at least it's to a lossless format.
