  1. Last week I bought this: and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival.
  2. Aye, same here. Source only now. I haven't played regular CS in about 5 years.
  3. Microsoft can kiss my ass. I've wasted so many hours on the phone with them reactivating my legitimate copies of XP. The most recent go decided that after installing SP2 my system hardware had changed requiring yet another activation. But this time the activation failed (no idea why) leaving my system in a completely screwed state requiring a 3RD reformat in 6 months. All in all the time I've spent reformatting and calling their activation support people amounts to 20-30 hours in 6 months. I should send them a bill.
  4. Initial impressions... Well they're better than the cheap buds that came with my NW-E507. Definitely alot of bass, it's fairly tight, but too much IMO, maybe they'll tame with some breakin. Definitely recessed mids and highs, which could just be a factor of the bass. I don't have any other buds really so I can't compare to anything but regular headphones, those being the Eggos and SA5000's. Both easily trounce these buds, but they're also seasoned units and completely different tech. This is not to say the sound isn't pleasing, it's warm and fairly vibrant, but I just don't hear the same detail that I do with even my Eggos. Are they worth the money? If you're a headphone person, no, for the same price you can get the D66 Eggo which sounds better IMO. If you're a bud person, maybe, rely on Damage's comparison to other buds for that.
  5. FYI, the price changed overnight. These are now available for $89.99 on Circuit City's website.
  6. Sweet, will pick these up tomorrow.
  7. Yes, with Sonic Stage 3.3 or 3.4 you can upload optical in recordings made on any Hi-MD unit.
  8. Oh you tease I think the eject button is NOT that easy to push. I remember reading something to that effect in the mega release thread. The font size doesn't look any smaller than the bulk of the text on the RH1 screen and the OLED is certainly more readable than the NH1 or any of the remote control displays (backlit or otherwise). I think this is a good release if you take the unit for what it is.. a recorder. Aside from the volumes of new or otherwise improved features the RH1 will make recording FUN again instead of fighting with the equipment over silly nuisances that wear your patience thin.
  9. A transparent window would be a slick addition on a recorder.
  10. I brought mine to the court house, the cops at the security station at the building entrance didn't even ask about it. I left the unit with the secretary when I had to go up for the selection process just to be safe.

  12. At least you'd know where you were This is pretty nice, but with the GPS unit for the PSP coming I'd probably go that route.
  13. Hoya Super HMC UV Filter http://www.thkphoto.com/digital/pro1d-03.html And an Hoya circular polarizer filter for my SLR. http://www.thkphoto.com/digital/pro1d-04.html
  14. For DTP on *nix your best bet is using something LaTeX (pronounced lah-tek) based. Something like Kile perhaps. http://kile.sourceforge.net/screenshots.php Here's some general info about LaTeX. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaTeX You may be able to get by with OpenOffice, but I'm not entirely sure about it's DTP capacity.
  15. I've found the NH1 has no problem driving the SA5000's. Adding a cmoy into the mix gave an increase in volume, but I didn't notice a difference in sound between the cmoy+NH1 and the stock NH1 when volume matched. I'm eager to see how the Gilmore Lite will fair, it should be able to drive the SA5k's far better than the cmoy. By all indications this should make the bass response of the SA5000 even better than it is already. I would say run the SA's with the HD-Amped players in your arsenal for now and if you feel the need for an amplifier later, skip the cmoy and try some of the more advanced designs.
  16. I'm using FreeBSD here. Too many configurations at home and work to list. Basically I use blackbox or xfce for a gui. mplayer for video, bmp or xmms for audio, openoffice, gimp, firefox, all the usual apps. Stability and the ability to update without a reboot in many cases are some of the great "features" of Unix systems. I maintain a few dozen servers many of which have over 800 days uptime. They do anything and everything from run Apache, DNS, NTP, 1-2 terabyte NAS, packet filtering, etc. If you're not running the default installation of most Linux distributions you can slim your hardware requirements down quite a bit. The out of the box installtions tend to be a bit bloated nowadays. You can easily have a server with 128-256MB of ram and an old Pentium 2 handle file serving, firewall operations, IRC or Silc chat services, Apache, even some mild database operations for a small office. It's all a matter of tuning and slimming down the kernel and other processes.
  17. I'd also be willing to bet that the D-link device is using at least SOME code from *BSD sources which adds irony to the situation.
  18. For music while at war? Interesting paint scheme on those
  19. Ah yes, the test where all the other codecs used VBR with an average bitrate near 130k whereas Atrac3 was CBR 132k. Because that's an accurate test...
  20. Osnews has an interesting article about the slow success of Hi-MD worldwide (Full article). "Currently, .mp3 players are all the hype. Everyone has one, and if you don't, you're old-fashioned. I do not have an .mp3 player. I tried to have one, but for various reasons it did not please me. I'm a MiniDisc guy. I've always been. MiniDisc has some serious advantages over .mp3 players, whether they be flash or HDD based."
  21. Even though I have no real use for this feature, it's still great. It should definitely help sales of this unit and the format in general.
  22. Ishi, notice any improvement in the SA5000's with this? I've been thinking of building a M^3 amp.The design seems to have really good performance characteristics. A bunch of head-fi'ers seem to like it in combination with the SA5000's.
  23. MD makes an appearance in a Natalie Imbruglia music video: [attachmentid=1555]
  24. MDFreak, Have you noticed if the RH1 has an estimated battery life indicator in the display menus anywhere like the NH1 did? ie. 4 hours remaining. The blinking battery indicator is misleading sometimes. The freight train that is the RH1 announcement thread trampled my question.
  25. My sentiments exactly. I could never understand why people would spend hundreds->thousands on their car stereos only to have the sound drowned out at 35+ mph. I voted yes for a home deck. I could just as easily use my NH1 which is already connected to my receiver, but having a deck would make life easier, especially if it had a timer record function.
