  1. Get yourself a copy of ImagesPlus (http://www.mlunsold.com/). You can take several short exposures and digitally combine them to bring out more detail. It has the ability to do dark frame subtraction, image registration and restoration as well as remote camera control via a serial of parallel cable adapter for completely unattended (and vibration free) shooting. It's like Maxim DL but significantly cheaper yet just as robust. To get back to the thread, I just bought: Epson Perfection 4490 PHOTO
  2. Yep. Sometimes with the camera and lens piggybacking on the telescope itself. Most times with the camera attached via t-ring directly to the focuser of the scope. It's an expensive hobby and is taking forever to get the technique and equipment right, but I think the end results will be well worth the effort.
  3. Film development costs are explicitly why I bought a digital camera. I've taken about 7000 photos with it so far which would be impossible to afford with film. The idea of the infrared filters on digital cameras is to block infrared out since most CMOS chips are sensitive to it.
  4. Got any pictures with and without the filter? I'd be interested in seeing the results. Do you also use an infrared filter? I know my digital SLR has an infrared filter right in front of the CMOS sensor. It's a real pain in the ass when you want to do astrophotography as they usually cut into the red spectrum too much. It's pretty amazing what filtration can do, but it's definitely a tricky area.

  8. Bourbon, brown sugar and pepper marinated shell steaks. Baked sweet potatoes/yams with butter and brown sugar. Grilled asparagus with lemon and butter sauce. I'm happy.
  9. Welcome to the SA club Damage I think I'll recommend these to a few friends who are looking for high quality phones on a budget. Re: Next Phones... I think I might try a phone from Sennheiser (HD650) or Beyerdynamic (DT880) all my phones have been Sony's. I feel like I'm cheating my ears by not trying some other brands

  13. Directshow filter support and APE tag support are about the only things keeping this version of SS from being perfect. I'd like to not have to transcode flac and ape files to get them on my player(s). Other than that this is a pretty slick release.
  14. Just picked up a NW-E507 *moseys over to atraclife*
  15. If you go the harddrive route I highly suggest you get a raid setup with some sort of redundancy. The last thing you want is to lose the music and time you put into ripping, encoding, and tagging your collection.
  16. Now that you have the answer what's the top angle? And for that matter the hypotenuse. Learn how things relate, don't just memorize the formulas.
  17. Here's a thought. How about just not using Windows period
  18. Along those lines, this site http://www-pw.physics.uiowa.edu/space-audi...sini/bow-shock/ Has an audio intepretation of instrument readings from when the Cassini-Huygens probe encountered the 'bow shock' of the solar wind hitting Saturn's magnetic field.
  19. I started on a Commodore 64 mostly for games, but eventually I was modifying programs in BASIC. I'd sold it a few years back only to buy one from a friend recently for nostalgia purposes. Emulators just don't cut it when it comes to the C64 Graduated to an 8088 when I was 7 that was a hand-me-down from my uncle. Then a 286->386->486->etc. I prefer FreeBSD on x86, but I keep an XP system handy for games. I also have a few Sun boxes that run Solaris or Free/Open/Net-BSD and have been looking for a DEC Alpha system with Tru64 Unix for a while. Niche architectures interest me. It's always handy to learn another OS/Hardware combination. Plus it gives you a bit more perspective and the extra experience never hurts when job hunting.
  20. Hooverphonic - No More Sweet Music Had to import this from Belgium since I was too impatient to wait for the US release 1. You Love Me To Death 2. We All Float 3. Music Box 4. Ginger The second disc has a remix of each song on the first.
  21. Ebay! I've been steadily adding to my collection over the past few years. I've got a few ageworthy items now including a 160 year old copy of Newton's Principia as well as a few 325 year old newspapers and 'magazines'. I'm currently eyeing a book entitled "CONCORDANTIAE BIBLICORUM" dated 1581! Anyone read Latin here? I'll have to learn...
  22. The Works of Lord Bacon by Basil Montagu, printed in 1852.
