  5. Just a thought - do you always press "STOP" before disconnecting the RH1 from the cable?
  6. HI Jeff, I just realised it's you, not a random stranger without mucho experience. So don't treat my comments as too broad Assuming it's the same port as last week.... I would try to see what ELSE is connected to USB. But I'm a software guy so I would mostly suspect software problems. It's possible you have one of these crazy things that hogs the CPU (not necessarily a virus - don't try installing new antivirus that may make it worse). In this case, no polling will occur. Some stuff from Microsoft where it's trying (and failing) to run automatic updates, can be the cause. You don't mention characteristics of your PC. Speed, RAM, version of Windows, what other software you recently installed. Check to see with Task Manager or Process Explorer. Get rid of Firefox browser (stop it, no need to de-install), Samsung AllShare (same thing), and look to see if any of the services are going mad and taking large percent CPU. Have you got an HP printer on your network? I've had a fair bit of trouble with the background printer communication on the network. Is there an Apple Airport in the house? Did you install Nero Backitup? There's a sneaky scheduler which can cause problems. Finally, just to check - last week you used HiMD. Are you running Windows 64-bit (most W7 installs) and this is a non-HiMD? If so you need NETMD760.SYS NetMD driver from the download section. (yeah I realise this one not likely since you are you). Double check, if you can, with some other device than the RH1. If that works, especially with non-HiMD disk, then it's a hardware problem most likely.
  7. You MUST (absolutely MUST) run the File Conversion Tool (available from Tools in the main menu of SS) before you try to do ANYTHING AT ALL. This will remove the decryption which currently locks the playing of your tracks to that computer (nay, that exact install of SS!!!!!!). Be very careful but please don't try to use any "conventional" backup means, or try doing System Restore (Windows) or you may lose buckets of stuff forever. This will take quite some time. You have to deselect the box that says "add copy protection". In doing that, you are "liberating" the files from prison. Don't check the box which says "delete OMG files", either. Don't try to copy or move anything before you do this. Then we talk more. Note: some files are NOT encrypted... mp3, WAV, AAL. and so will not have anything done to them.
  8. At the risk of being sued by Apple, be SURE THAT YOU ONLY TURN ON APPLE TV WHEN YOU USE IT! I recently stayed at a relative's house with an ATV in it and all the WiFi (cell phones) ground to a halt and disconnected about every 2 minutes, as long as the device was active. Even his AirPort blew up, as far as I can see... it was away being fixed after reporting the approximate same symptoms. My own cell phone was going into "hunt" mode, which as you know means that the highest power (maximum radiation) was being used whilst it repeatedly attempted (and failed) to connect. My battery would run down in a few hours instead of lasting all day. So where did those battery Joules go? Into the air. And perhaps the heads of those in the house. We were scared when I finally figured that one out. Yes, your 520 (or any other deck) should act as a nice D->A. But if the price is having ATV on all the time, think twice.
  9. Step one: have you run the FCT and decrypted everything? We can talk about possible strategies as soon as that issue is put-to-bed One strategy is to leave everything on the desktop machine and connect to it from Laptop, remotely. Anyway, more anon. Don't do anything hasty like copying all the files... there are several different approaches which work, and we can help you choose one.
  10. Whoa! That's way outta my league. I recall paying $3.50 per disk at one point about 3 years ago.
  11. That's perfectly true; you cannot. Certainly when I tried it. Maybe there's some wording in the manual that is either a. wrong; or b. unclear, and you misunderstood it If you want external power for non-USB use you will have to connect the 3.0VDC adapter from Sony. However it's perfectly ok to do USB transfers without any power supply except the USB.
  12. Looks like this one slipped through the cracks. Generally Sony devices got more attention as there are more of them. Mind you these AIWA devices were probably made by Sony as the Vendor ID (VID) is still Sony. You need to add another line into NETMD760.INF in the [ControlFlags] section which is an exact copy of the line for the NX1 EXCEPT that "0113" is replaced by "014C" (the USB PID for the Aiwa NX9). Like this: ExcludeFromSelect=USBVID_054C&PID_014C ; AM-NX9 and another one lower down in the [sony] section %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.Dev, USBVID_054C&PID_014C ; AM-NX9 I will PM you a copy of the NETMD760.INF file with the changes made now. Good luck. If you get it working please let us know, and we will modify the official downloadable copy.
  13. In the word "just" (as always IMHO) lies a whole world of experience. If you are ready to enter it, be prepared for many days of frustration and annoyance, and quite possibly losing your RH10 forever. If I were you I would buy a (cheap) unit for recording SP and then play back on the RH10. Every *other* model will do SP recording. I've seen enough trouble with the second gen machines (actually the RH910 but they should be and probably are, the same) that I wouldn't tinker with it. But if you read that very long thread (with the help of the service manual) you should be able to do what you want. Don't expect sympathy if you brick your RH10, though.
  14. Welcome to the inferno Chris.... try here
  15. try looking (use *oogle, not the somewhat limited search engine here) for references to PX20 on this site. But don't even THINK about doing anything with any software earlier than Sonic Stage 4.3 (from our downloads section). Very likely some other piece of software has inserted itself (Microsoft calls this a "filter") in the CD device stack. Examples are: Roxio, some antivirus, Nero. My personal first attempt would be to DELETE all traces of the CDROM or DVDROM from the device map. If you are trying to run hosted, eg XP under W7 or bootcamp or slackware or VMWare, then abandon hope and get yourself a copy of EAC which should clean up the whole thing. Unless you want to rip directly to ATRAC, use EAC, import the resulting WAV files and then compress (to AAL) after the fact. Similarly to OP, you don't tell us your complete configuration - and I don't begin to believe that yours matches his (specified in post #3) in every last detail. Don't give up, we're here to help. If it used to work and no longer does, consider the possibility that one of the two lasers on a hybrid (DVD/CD) drive is simply bust, and go out and get a new drive. They're cheap when I last checked.....
  16. I'm not sure that the MD technology will work any more dense than what it does. As it is you're (heating and) inverting zones of metal oxide at a pretty fine separation. I agree that BluRay obviously is using much smaller physical areas per bit. However that is with a different technology. There's no equivalent to MD in the world of CD/CDR/DVD/Bluray, I think. I'm not sure what the mini-DVD camcorders do (is it even rewriteable???) - but I'm pretty sure it's not the same as MD-MO.
  17. Just a quick comment - I remember these sorts of errors until I settled on Philips CD-R's a few years back. My spindle of those is nearly running out, so it's time to look for more, I guess.
  18. Jim's your man... I expect he may respond shortly.
  19. I don't mean to be unkind but I think these prices need to be better researched. IMHO they are too high by a factor of 2.5-3 times. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  20. Hehe u didn't notice that all your pictures got reproduced in his reply. A lot for ppl to page through if they don't have superfast connx.
  21. Agreed exactly. Take a look at his other items, as you might expect getting rid of a ton of MD stuff. Nice!
  22. That's a more reasonable number than that celebrated one that changed hands a few months back. Good luck!
  23. I'm gonna edit the duplicated pics.....
  24. disconnect all HDMI cables. I have seen something a bit like this. An HDMI cable with nothing at all connected to it can cause very weird stuff to happen on any TV.
