  1. Yeah, I sent yours out last Thursday Ivan so I'm hoping it should be with you very soon.
  2. Are we talking coffee shop that sells coffee or coffee shop in the dutch sense? Either way good luck with the venture and the new NH1.
  3. I may be wrong, but I think it mentions the 256 /48k bitrates in relation to Atrac CD's and not MD's?

  5. To all intents and purposes they are. Only the shutter is different as far as I can see.
  6. That is correct. The way data is written and read to/from Hi-MD discs can only be read by Hi-MD units and is not backwards compatible.
  7. Yep, thanks for the greetings Bland have a good one, and like Bob I hope all list members have a great 2006! Happy New Year!
  8. I would suggest reading the MD Center NL Review here: http://www.mdcenter.nl/redirect.php?file=h...0preview_en.php And there is also my review in the pictorials section here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11621
  9. Yes I meant Trojan Horse in the clasical sense, although the virus terminology is of course referring to the same origin. Anyway what I meant was that because the PS3 will sell millions of units whatever happens, lots of people will already have Blu-Ray units in their houses already. Oh you know what I meant There was also this Blu-Ray unit from Pioneer http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/27/pioneer...ally-announced/ And Panasonic has said that it will ship Blu-Ray optical drives for notebook and desktop computers by spring 2006 as well as 25- and 50-GB BD discs.
  10. There is also the fact that the majority of the major film studios in the end backed Blu-Ray over HD-DVD. Add to that the trojan horse effect of the PS3 that will put Blu-Ray into millions homes worldwide. Microsoft are I'm afraid just cluctching at straws on this one.
  11. Replacment cables can be bought from Sony Parts or from Audiocubes. Or if you get the Japanese model it comes with 2 USB cables.
  12. Here on the other side of the world, it's been snowing where I live in Holland for the last couple of days.
  13. Either that or they are some dodgy refurbished batteries from China
  14. Non standard USB cable, but the same as is used on the NH1 and NH3D.
  15. Assuming the units are new they are both pretty good value at those prices. As Ivan says the 800 has a few features the 600 doesn't, namely radio, dc input, possibly optical in (if the unit you saw was the NH600D). So I shouild take a look at the feature sets of each unit try looking at the equipment vrowser here: http://www.minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html Then based on the features make your choice.
  16. Congrats on the purchase - enjoy the unit. All the DH10P's are made in Malaysia and unfortunately they never made it (together with the rest of the 2nd gen) to Australia. Likewise all the NH1's were made in Japan.
  17. I just ordered this on DVD from Amazon.fr looking forward to it.
  18. Yes I think changing the area code via service mode on the unit will enable JP character display on the unit itself. This will not affect the display of roman characters. Note: any of the remotes ending in ELK can display Kanji regardless of whether the unit they are attached to can or not. So if you transfer a track with Kanji in it and your unit is not Kanji enabled on the display of the unit the track title will display as ?????? but the attached remote should display it correctly.
  19. The other way is to use Sonic Stage and select all tracks, enter the title once, and it will be applied to all tracks - although this is best done before you transfer to the disc. I can't remember if you can do this direct in the transfer window for tracks recorded via optical in that are already on the disc. If you can't then you can still use Sonic Stage, but just use a combination of copy and paste which should at least speed things up.
  20. Well done, congrats on the purchase, it is indeed a killer unit both in looks and sound.

    Sony DAV-X1

This neat little home cinema kit, was looking very attractive until I found out that for some bizarre reason the euro models don't have HDMI output whereas the US version does and the US version costs around $400 less as well! Link here As far as I can make out at the moment there are no all-in-one Sony Home Cinema sets on sale in Europe with HDMI - anybody confirm this?
  22. On my NH1 if it is in simple mode, I just press (on the unit) Menu => Option (using joystick) press once, menu Mode, press once, switch to Advanced. Or on the remote, hold Navi/Menu, scroll to Option, Scroll to Menu Mode, scroll to Advanced, press Navi-Menu once again to save (doesn't need to be a long press).
  23. I think you need to make sure menu settings are at advanced. To do this, go to Options => Menu Mode => Advanced. Be aware though that even with this enabled not all edit functions are available on the unit, only via the remote. See manual p. 29-31
  24. I agree and another thing that although maybe not immediately clear is that all the buttons on the RM-MC40ELK are labelled with dual functions. So the sound button is labelled with a short dot in black as "Sound" then also with a long dot as "Sound Set" indicating that if you keep it pressed you can change sound settings. Likewise Navi (Short Dot), Menu (Long Dot) on the main jog dial.
  25. You shouldn't have too many issues with the Lip-4WM, but I never let them drain fully too often and I always charge them completely. The NH1 will charge about 85% of the battey in 60 mins or so, but the last 15% takes another two hours. I read somewhere that it is better in the long term if it also completes the trickle charge phase as well. You can also get info at http://www.batteryuniversity.com/
